The first guy, if he is the prime minister - is a moron. Of course if you publicly humiliate your staff like that, there are going to be repurcussions. Classic primate dominance stuff - and ugly, ugly.

That said - love to see a Bush-Rumsfeld dust-up like this. ;-)

The first guy is the Health Minister (David Rath) - the guy he hits is actually a right-wing rival from another party (Miroslav Macek).

Thanks for that noizy - Is that kind of casual violence acceptable in czech culture? Just the way he did it seemed very matter-of-fact.

Not that the West is much better - we pay lip service to pacifiscm, but are still violent, maybe just not so casually. Reading the article, it says the slapped guy made a comment about the podium guy's wife. Man, that's pretty neanderthal stuff.

The best are the south koreans. Have you seen the brawls they have in their parliament. The white house (I'm referring to the russian parliament, not the american presidential residence) has also had a few good fights.

Hi, I'm Czech,my friend sent me link on this site. I was realy curious if it spreads to USA too.. And it really happened :-)
For explication: It was dentists meeting. The first guy, who hit, was dentist, former vice-chairman of right wing party (ODS). But already he is couple years out of "big politic".Second guy,who was hit-health minister,is from left wing party-social democratic party (CSSD). He is really unpopular now, because of his new style and strict leading of public health.But I have to say, he does good job(exception among the CSSD ministers).But his problem is, he is quite arrogant and he likes to taunt and heckle the opponents.

The reason of this fight was the article in the newspaper!

Minister, David Rath, ironically taunted Miroslav Macek. I'll try quote it in english: "I remember Miroslav Macek, when he used to appear at the parties everytime with other,two thirds younger and very beautiful lady. A then, he suddenly married with that quite old and rich woman. I wish that him. Somebody likes heart, somebody likes body and somebody likes money." .....:-))))) After that Macek told Rath via newspapers, that he will solve that like man with man...:-))So that was the real reason of the fight.
And the answer for the question: "Is that kind of casual violence acceptable in Czech culture?" No,it isn't. It's mainly funny for many people and many people will be influenced during the election (in 2 weeks!) because, CSSD (Rath's party) used that againts right wing ODS of course (they say,it's ODS's style of politic). But it seems,it was really personal issue,but Macek is really stupid,he did it 2 weeks before elections and did it on the public, in front of cameras...
So I affraid of the CSSD win in the election again and deceleration of the economy rise...:-(
