Licking Chicks - New Way to Pickup Women

Bumfights: a video too far

HorsSujet says...

I see your point, Rembar, but I think the documentary has two important merits. One is that it was produced and carried by Channel4 which I think brought awareness of this problem to a different demographic than the one which would otherwise stumble across Bumfights on the Internet.
The other one is that it gives all parties, particularly the "bums" a chance to state their cases and explain what their experiences and motivations were at the time. It fleshes out a richer picture of all the participants, and is thereby only more damning to the filmmakers.

By the way, Dr. Phil doesn't appear in this. The person in the video icon is a journalist.

GIGN Commandos Storm Hijacked Plane

HorsSujet says...

I remember this incident. French intelligence had human elements inside this terror group, and knew they had plans to turn a plane into a flying bomb by refuelling in Marseille and then crashing it into the Eiffel Tower or the Montparnasse Tower, also in Paris. This is why the decision was made to storm the plane, rather than try to negotiate further.

It makes you wonder if a US intelligence community which hadn't abandoned human intelligence after the cold war in favour of technological gadgets would have been more alert to the possibility of an attack such as 911.

Zen Mind

HorsSujet says...

I think your missing the point, Glu. The purpose of Zen is not to have an empty mind, as in devoid of content, but rather to cultivate a mind which is receptive to experience in a way which can only be achieved by lowering the volume of the inner chatter we all have. Someone once explained it to me as "shutting up to finally listen, for once".

It's not unlike what happens as we mature. When you're a child, not getting a lollypop can make you throw a fit and ultimately make a fool out of yourself. We all know people who still do that as adults. The idea of Zen and meditation in general is to make one aware of those mental processes, to see that you're getting upset out of proportion and sort of not get on that train.

That said, one of the nice things about buddhism is it has no proselytising. It doesn't have to be for everyone. If you're happy without ever needing it, good for you. If it can add something to your life, then give it a try. The point is that it's a philosophy which concentrates on internal experience more than appearance or being seen at mass every sunday.

Anna Paquin's Breathless Oscar Acceptance Speech, Aged 11

HorsSujet says...

You'll notice she went back to her seat in the audience. The prize winners aren't actually supposed to do that but leave out the side of the stage. The reason for this is that there are people who fill in the seat left empty so that no shots of the audience ever show empty places.

I'd like to have seen the face she made when she found someone else in her seat.

I agree entirely, Rickegee, but would include William Karel in your list of new polemicists. His "World according to Bush" is the best documentary on the Bush administration and makes a far stronger case than Fahrenheit 911 does.
