From YT: Quick thinking by the Mt Hutt staff saved this boy's life.

I doubt if it was life threatening, TBQH.

A fall from that height would have injured him quite severely, if he landed directly on the snow below. The snow was packed and he would have had at least 1 if not 2 broken legs, plus a good chance of a compound fracture and the bleeding that comes from that.

Probably not, but if you look down at the end you'll see he was over a flat groomed run and several meters up. It would have been like landing on concrete.
