Bill Hicks vs Heckler (Part 2)

Goofball_Jonessays...

The references to "freebird" and "Kevin Mathews" and "Jim Shorts" all relate to a failed Radio personality from Chicago named Kevin Mathews....who was quite popular in the days where he was actually funny on the radio. He would get people to yell "freebird" at concerts and comedy gigs...because like that was so fricken funny huh.

After Bill Hicks died, Kevin would say how much of a buddy he was to Bill...but this video kinda shows you how Bill thought about all that BS.

In 99.9% of all cases I couldn't agree more, but this is what makes the whole thing funny, he is totally, senselessly pissed off at the heckler, obviously he isnt that pissed, if he was, he'd just leave the stage and go have a beer. Its part of the stand-up character he plays, the mean, aggressive guy. oh, how I hate explaining jokes. But the point is, yes, he crosses the line, but he does it in a context, he makes a joke about himself, about the frustration, the heckling, everything. his way of saying "People are just god damn idiots" all in a very exaggerated way ofcourse, if he just said it plainly he'd just come off as bitter or arrogant or both.

One of the reasons I posted this was the whole Michael Richards thing, I think he was trying to do something like this, but he did it all wrong, and bombed it totally, I just dont see Richards as the kind of guy that secretly burn crosses on the weekends, he isnt a "closet racist" or anything like that, IMO he meant to be sort of "wanna be childish and heckle, how bout' if I get twice as childish and mock you for your race" Watch that video again and youll see what I mean.
