Anti-Gay Senator comes out: "I Am Gay"

... defends his staunch anti-gay voting record.
Ashburn's checkered civil rights record includes voting against a Senate resolution declaring Prop 8 unconstitutional, thrice shooting down the creation of Harvey Milk Day, voting against recognizing out of state same-sex marriages, and opposing "an expansion of the state's insurance laws to include sexual orientation as a protected class."

Some of the things this homophobic homosexual has voted against:

SB 777 Normalizes homosexuality, bisexuality and transexuality in public and private schools. Bans all teaching and activities that "promote a discriminatory bias against" these sexual orientations.

AB 1185 Would have codified existing legal protections for transgender people born in California which allows them to obtain a court order reflecting their correct gender and any accompanying name change.

SB 44 Affirms that same-sex couples married before Prop 8 are entitled to full recognition as married spouses in California, regardless of where they were married and that couples married outside of California after Prop 8 must be given all of the rights, protections and responsibilities of spouses under California law.

AB 43 Replaces state language on marriage of a "man and woman" to marriage of "two persons". Legalizes homosexual marriage.

AB 102 Changes the Declaration of Domestic Partnership form, allowing one or both parties to indicate changes in their last names. Grants marriage license to domestic partners, including homosexuals.

AB 394 Requires the State Dept of Education to "monitor adherence" to AB 537, passed in 2000 which prohibits discrimination based on actual or perceived sexual orientation in public schools.

AB 629 Revamps state sexual education requirements, making it illegal to "reflect or promote bias" against homosexuality, bisexuality or transexuality in sex education. Prohibits teaching "religious doctrine" in sex education.

AB 2654 Adds to the special protections against "anti-homosexual discrimination" found in AB 14.

the list goes on and on and on

There's so much more great stuff in this little interview. They were playing it on Howard Stern this morning... the interviewer (an obvious friend of Ashburn) says something along the lines of:
"Some people have been saying you are a hypocrite for voting anti-gay all these years, which I take insult to... that's like saying that all black people are hypocrites if they didn't vote for Obama..."

What a gigantic moron.

people do a lot of things out of fear. unfortunately it can make one forget the importance of truth to oneself. this, homosexuality and homophobia, I'm far too familiar with personally. it's odd, really. the fear of persecution which is ultimately what it's about...seems to sustain itself somehow, I suppose through ignorance.

also, truncated quote, because it's funnier this way.

Unfortunately, in this case, I think it's more about greed and power than it was about fear. Every speech he made to his supporters at "family values" fund raising events, where he spoke out against gay rights, he did so because he wanted their votes and their money. He willingly went to every Christian group out there, knowing full well that he was completely misrepresenting himself to them, and told them exactly what they wanted to hear and then cashed their checks. It really takes a monster of a person to live such a life. If it weren't for getting busted leaving a gay bar drunk he would still be singing the same tune.

I can only hope that the lie that this fuckwad has been living has eaten a hole in his stomach. Every day should be a painful reminder that he is a hypocrite of the most epic magnitudes.

I still think back to when Mike Huffington came out of the closet (wayyy back when no one had anything nice to say about his wife... man, how things have changed...)

To think that he would be only one of many, many more like him. Ashburn won't be the last, either. This kind of self-degrading behavior, shamelessly degrading exactly what you are for votes in a hick district, who bought it all ... I dunno what's more sad, him or his constituency...

For those living outside the US and/or California, this guy's a California state senator. He's not one of the hundred men in the US Senate who make votes at the federal level. He votes on California laws exclusively.

And as a California State lawmaker, he's had ample opportunity to stand up against fear, bigotry, intolerance, and hatred.

Instead, he catered to the fear, bigotry, intolerance and hatred of his constituency.

He is a disgusting excuse for a man, much like the people who voted for him.
