Information
http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Operation_Titstorm--ED-Resource-Center To the members of the Australian government,
This is a message concerning the recent actions directed at high profile government websites by members of the organization that has become known as anonymous. We are delivering this message to inform you of the reasoning behind these actions, to enlighten you to the mistakes that you have made. Your attempts to construct a government mandated blacklist has been under our watchful eyes for quite some time, but your steps to finalize this plan have finally allowed us to take action. Your choice to ban material under the guise of the good of your people, your notions of right and wrong have forced us to remind you of the purpose behind the internet.
We have tolerated your single minded ideology for long enough, and will see to it that you are informed of the issues that are clear to the rest of the internet as a whole. Your choice to make moves against the pornography industry are not the sole focus of our actions, rather this is the final straw in a long chain of choices that inform us that you are preparing to censor your people, that you are no longer acting in their best interest.
You are acting in direct opposition to the best interest of your citizens, and we intend to help them realize this, along with the rest of the globe as a message that we will not allow the internet to be censored by any group, organization, or government. We shall free your people from a country that is oppressing their right to access information; we shall be the shining beacon in the darkness that you are casting over the single most powerful tool available to humanity.
Your decision to censor ideas in the vein notion of protection, are only serving to harm the complete freedom of information that is present. As such, until you have acknowledged your failures to your people, we will continue our actions to free them from your attempts to censor information.
Knowledge is free.
We are anonymous,
We are legion,
We do not forgive,
We do not forget...
Expect us.

rkonesays...Wow, Sbaitso and GUS demo music, that really brings me back. Kind of distracting to the actual message though. It's a shame, I think it's about time we start seeing (peaceful) public uprisings against some of the crap that governments have been getting away with lately.
choggiesays...*comedy
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Comedy) - requested by choggie.
choggiesays...^apologies, I know these anonymous people mean business...I hope I have not offended any of them-They know where to find me if I have.
peggedbeasays...i want nerd guerilla warfare on EVERYTHING.
anonymous as a social justice movement would be ingenious and fucking powerful.
i want them to clog the fax lines of financial institutions with pictures of dollar bills and poverty.
i want the IMF inundated with fax pictures of mohangany trees, and bananas, and third world civil wars.
go go go go go go go go go
and anti gay marriage politicians to get faxed gay porn.
kymbossays...Dear anonymous, it's 'vain' not 'vein'.
A message from 'Pedants Anonymous'.
rychansays...I love it! It's so sinister and eerie. It's like something you'd see from an underground group in a Sci Fi Anime.
entr0pysays...From the text of that statement it sounds as if they're against absolutely all censorship. Yet, 4chan it's self (home of anonymous) has rules for what is not allowed. And another rule that states you are not allowed to publicly disparage the rules.
Rule 1. Do not upload, post, discuss, request, or link to, anything that violates local or United States law. This will be severely punished and strictly enforced.
Rule 8. Complaining about 4chan (its policies, moderation, etc.) on the imageboards can result in post deletion and banishment. The administrator will address your questions, comments, complaints, and concerns via e-mail.
Speaking in such absolutes makes them seem like hypocrites. Which is not really helpful to the cause.
gwiz665says...@entr0py but that's not really censorship. Like not allowing porn or snuff on videosift is not really censorship either. That's a private citizen/corporation deciding what it wants to have in their sphere. 4chan and any other website is owned by someone and whoever that someone is can setup any rules they want no matter how draconian.
Censorship comes when someone other than the rightful owner demands that something be removed or hidden. Like when and ad agency demands a video removed from here or when a government demands that certain things must not be seen/said in the public space.
People view websites as public spaces, but they're really not. They are private spaces. People are just allowed to peek in the window - and some times they're not (forums with activation to view).

Another thing is, Freedom of Speech only covers the Government not being allowed to pass laws against your speech and views. Private companies such as the Mass Media, and internet providers, can hobble you as much as they want.
A LOT of people don't seem to understand this.
Smugglarnsays...Why not China? North Korea? Goldman Sachs?

Sketchsays...While I find this fairly pretentious, and I agree that there are probably bigger fish to fry, Australia's practice of censorship in all media really is out of control. I don't know what they are thinking. It's like they are afraid that their citizenry is going to revert back to its criminal, penal colony roots if they see blood in a video game.
