American propaganda at its best....and wins an Emmy!

Apologize to the World Mr. Wallace and Return that Emmy

President Ahmadinejad Calls for Democracy, Free and Fair Elections and a Durable Peace.
ShakyJakesays...

Wow, what an underhanded manipulative piece of work this has been. The "Warmonger" Ahmadinejad is making a rational argument about a solution to the problem in Isreal, but has his words edited in such a way as to seem the villain? What makes it worse is the way Wallace is almost apologizing to the audience for giving this "villain" so much fame in an interview. Iran certainly isn't a bosom buddy of ours, but this is a pretty disgusting pretense even so.

quantumushroomsays...

CBS is part and parcel of the left-wing media and no fan of the Iraq war or Israel. If anything, they have a repsonsibility to their cocooned audience to make Amadinnawackjob seem as puppylike and friendly (and sane) as possible.

If Wallace was doing this to make Wackjob look bad it was a redundant move...the Iranian doofus gained more credibility then he'll ever deserve simply by being interviewed.

Throbbinsays...

Quantum mushroom must live in a very nice and easy world - everything is neatly categorized in left, right, bad, good, right wrong, jesus, not jesus by Nill O'Reilly. It must be so nice not having to thing, just repeat everything Papa Bear says.

Dumbass.

How do you know he's such a villain if you plug your ears and scream "lalalalalala" every time he speaks?

This translation was incorrect! This video is the propaganda! This was not what President Ahmadinejad was saying. You have to fact check this stuff, boys! This is what he was saying:

I think that the Israeli government is a fabricated government. I want a girl with a mind like a diamond. I want a girl who knows what's best. I want a girl with shoes that cut and eyes that burn like cigarettes. I want a girl with the right allocations. Who's fast and thorough and sharp as a tack. She's playing with her jewelry. She's putting up her hair. She's touring the facility and picking up slack. I want a girl with a short skirt and a lonnnng jacket......

What can I say? The Ahmadinejad likes him some Cake.

"Left-wing media" is a term of abuse used by movement conservatives to refer to just about any published or broadcast matter that isn't funded by Roger Ailes and/or Rupert Murdoch. The fact that people let themselves be cowed by transparent bullying like this is mystifying, but they do, which explains how travesties like this not only can happen, but happen systematically.

As for the substance of QM's comment, why is it incumbent on CBS or anyone else to be a "fan" of Israel or of the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq? The answer, I surmise, is that the U.S. media aren't supposed to exercise independent judgement; they're not supposed to investigate stories and report them on the merits; rather, they're supposed to be a cheering section for whatever the U.S. government (as long as it's a Republican government, at that) and its allies want.

It's a term of "abuse" only because excepting overt failures like Al Franken, liberals always hide who they really are, especially when trying to get elected. Just about every media source outside of talk radio, FOX cable and a handful of newspapers is liberally-biased. The average liberal has PLENTY of choices for their own brand of bias, and that's not even counting the morons in Hollywood and knuckleheads being spat out the government school system.

As for the substance of QM's comment, why is it incumbent on CBS or anyone else to be a "fan" of Israel or of the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq?

Figure of speech. You would have to live in a vacuum not to understand that media choose sides, if only to sell, sell, sell. Big Media is a business, therefore lazy reporting that makes money leads the way. The drive-by media has a total "good news blackout" on Iraq and pretends the surge failed. Fk 'em. They deserve to lose ratings to Fox.

The answer, I surmise, is that the U.S. media aren't supposed to exercise independent judgement; they're not supposed to investigate stories and report them on the merits; rather, they're supposed to be a cheering section for whatever the U.S. government (as long as it's a Republican government, at that) and its allies want.

If you really believe that, can you explain why 99% of the "Republican cheering squad" drive-by media is pushing the Obamessiah, the biggest nothing and empty suit ever to make headway towards the Presidency?

As the liberal says, "WHAT liberal media?" the fish says, "WHAT water?"

You have a right to your own opinions--even you no-star n00bs--but not your own facts, and the fact is Ammadinnawackjob is a corrupt "leader," terrorist and Holocaust denier. You libs can go on amusing yourselves trying to pick up this turd by the clean end.

Wing seat? Aisle seat? The liberal pretends to accept all points-of-view, then is horrified to discover there are other points-of-view. hahahaha.

I love how QM bitches about the so called liberal media. If the media was liberal they would object to the war in Iraq from the start, they would object to lies and obfuscations about the administration of Bush that failed in Afghanistan

It takes more than holding elections to have a democracy. The elections have to be fair and free on intimidation. The elected officials cannot be over-ruled by unelected monarchs, dictators, religious authorities, etc... This is not a reasonable response, it's the same crap Iran has been feeding the West for years. Iranians know nothing about democracy, they themselves do not have a democracy (despite having elections in which the candidates must first be approved by the caliphate), nor do many others in the region, despite saying they do. I can't believe you people actually buy this...I'm not advocating war against Iran, but Jesus Christ, use your noggins people.

The intelligent tear down misconceptions with fact and logic, others scream at the top of their lungs, with insults and innuendo, trying to hide their own inadequacies and insecurities. I upvoted Farhad's reply, I'm not going to bother doing anything with yours.

I don't agree on almost everything with Teh Mushroom, but I won't try to block his right to speak his mind.

I think it's interesting that nobody gives the President of Iran a chance. If he's building nuclear facilities, he must be building a bomb. If he's stating that the Holocaust never happened he must want to bomb Israel with his nuclear weapons he's making in his new buildings. If he states that Israel is a fabricated government, he must want to wipe them off the Earth with his new shiny toys. And yet, maybe he is really building those weapons. And maybe he really does want to destroy Israel and even the United States. But is it considered vacillating and appeasing to give the man a chance? Since when did we attack a country before they attacked us? Oops...

ShakaUVMsays...

The American media does seem to have a fascination with supporting Palestine over Israel. Dunno why. And the 60 Minutes interview gave Ahmadinejad more free press in American than anything that came before.

chilaxesays...

The question he was asked by Wallace, which is cut off in this video, is "'Israel must be wiped off the map.' Why?" Ahmadinejad's argument for wiping Israel off the map is that "Israel is a fabricated government."

His argument that Palestinians don't have democracy also seems deceptive. They have democracy, but part of their current government (Hamas, not Abbas) is subjected to physical interference from Israel and financial constraints from many other countries because it's broadly regarded as a terrorist organization.1 That doesn't sound like a legitimate support for Ahmadinejad's thesis that Israel must be wiped off the map.

With the jingoistic threats and lies Ahmadinejad consistently authors (the holocaust is a "fairytale"), it doesn't seem reasonable to defend him any more than you defend Bush.

dooglesays...

Wow, I'm sure people watching this would think Ahmedinejad has some leadership influence in Iran, and perhaps beyond its borders.

Which, I would happen to think that he does,
but many others on the sift, in their blanket McCain-bashing tradition would (and should if they're consistent) point out as completely erroneous.

</bitterness>

NetRunnersays...

^ That video was more about the abject denial of the possibility that someone else might be worth negotiating with in Iran, and McCain pretty much looking like he'd never heard the name before.

Ahmadinejad is still part of the leadership of Iran, and the one the media treats as the absolute ruler of the country.

This video isn't about the scope of Ahmadinejad's authority within Iran, it's about the media using editing to reverse the message of what the guy said, to make him look like he's evil, while our government rattles sabers at him.

While you can argue there's perhaps a partisan fascination with the video you cite, the kind of thing you see in this video should be concerning to anyone in America, regardless of their political affiliation.

dead_tofusays...

by the way, he never said that israel should be wiped of the map. his words were that israel didnt have the right to excist, it was the american media that twisted his words and made them a little more juicy.

You can't be serious. All we get from the media shits is gloom-and-doom.

Here's a simple formula for you: Republican President and/or Congressional majority = media negative.

Democrat President and/or Congressional majority = media positive.

Don't believe me? Be sure to compare coverage of "Gramps" McCain and the Obamessiah.

Iran can talk sh*t all day, as long as whoever really runs the show over there understands the consequences of moving against the USA.

bcglorfsays...

Oh no, shame on 60 minutes for characterizing him as calling for Israel to be removed. Does anyone in here honestly believe he is not calling for the end of the Israeli state? Go watch this and tell me what you think. It's about a 9 minute speech he gives explaining why Israel's declaration of independence was a false regime, and best of all it comes complete with several pauses as he waits for chanting of death to Israel to die down.

Better yet, go use google for 5 minutes to find some of his other speechs he gives. You'll notice that calls for "DEATH TO ISRAEL!" is the common theme. Whether you like it or not, this video is the propaganda, not 60 minutes.
