Amazing chemical reactions!

Professor Hunter, from here on known as Professor Awesome, shows a series of cool and somewhat explosive chemical reactions.
Jinxsays...

I remember various open days and end of term lessons including these chemistry party tricks. Its cool if this sort of stuff sparks an interest in chemistry, but a REALLY good teacher makes learning about the less spectacular/explosive/colourful aspects of chemistry interesting.

I did always like potassium chlorate + gummybear/jellybaby though. Had some interesting physics lessons too. Shit like trying to build the highest load bearing bridge with the fewest toothpicks (I won ).

Wish my chemistry class was more like this, we did very boring stuff like make aspirin...woo!

Yeah, I never had a good lab teacher/experience and I feel I'm somewhat lacking as a result. We were burning food to count calories and flying paper airplanes. Cheers to this noble prof. and his lucky students.

I had the same teacher for chemistry and AP chemistry. We did magnesium.....and maybe some acids. But overall nothing exciting. Aspirin was made out to be a big deal, but man...it looked like chalk and there was no way I would have attempted to take one of them based on my limited skills.

I did really well in chemistry and then about flunked out of AP chemistry....had a real dislike for all the compound calculations and such ever since. Blocked most of it out...was like a completely different subject.

Darkhandsays...

IMO One of the reasons it's hard to get kids interested in Science is because it's taught in such a "Textbook" manner. I loved science but I still wish I had a teacher like this showing us all the cool stuff that can happen!

Quboidsays...

The textbook stuff is important, but without some cool stuff like this it's hard to absorb the important stuff. The way I see it, these kids will have learnt today what they could have learnt in a fraction of the time by reading a textbook - but these kids will remember this stuff long after the textbook stuff has faded from their minds.
