God, I'm so relieved that these fine young men are protecting my freedom.

"You know your country stinks like ass...what you think about that? It sucks? Doesn't it suck? You smell like ass, too."
rougysays...

See - I've forgotten what these wonderful people have done to keep me safe from the terrible children of Afghanistan.

God forbid anyone should hurt the feelings of these fine, upstanding, courageous - intelligent - examples of American manhood.

Behold all of the marvelous things those poor, pitiful, under-appreciated grunts have done for your country, America.

blankfistsays...

I don't see that as being that bad. They appear pretty human to me. We've all said things we wished we hadn't, and that's especially true in stressful times. Teaching kids to say "This country sucks" isn't the worst thing - it's human. If he had shot the kid, then we'd have an issue.

It's always cool to see video from Iraq, so I enjoyed watching it for that. Otherwise, I'm not sure I cared for what it tried to acheive.

rougysays...

"I don't see that as being that bad. They appear pretty human to me."

I know you were Navy, BF, and I basically agree with you.

What's a little innocent degradation when you're a Miami boy in a third world hell hole?

Are you going to reenlist as a Marine? Did you see how much fun it was?

And I was wondering if you thought I owed them a big hug and a thank-you for protecting my freedom.

rougysays...

See...I really feel bad for those guys who swore to...what did they swear?

Do you remember?

To uphold the Constitution or something like that.

And all of those bothersome kids in Afghanistan always asking for money.

Ohhhh, that pisses me off!

But wasn't it fun? Wouldn't you miss it too?

MarineGunrocksays...

Yes, that's all rougy does.

Rougy, just because you see a video of a couple morons, that doesn't make the rest of us assholes too.

One question for you though, and if you could avoid name calling, slanderizing, generalizations and all that ugly business just for once, it would be great.
Do you hate the military? And if so, if our country was ever attacked (again) and we had a 100% solid reason to fight a uniformed enemy, wouldn't you want a highly efficient military protecting you?

And no, I'm not trying to tell you anyone here(video) is protecting you right now.
Also, since when was 7 minutes long?

eric3579says...

For a bunch of guys, eighteen to twenty some years old, This doesent seem that bad. Its not like they new that there buddy, with the camcorder, was going to put it on the web. Im sure quite a few of them will be damaged from there time spent in the military. I feel sorry for anyone who has been exposed to the horrors of war. They are just kids.

arnorsays...

Ah… These fine representatives of Americanism - and the Iraqis didn't welcome them as liberators, and instantly strive to adopt the American style of government?! I'm stunned. Stunned I tell you...

theaceofclubzsays...

I didn't think anything in this video was too surprising. These are some very bored, partially emotionally numb guys in a very shitty situation just trying to entertain themselves any way they can. Nothing they did in the vid caused any real harm (tricking kids into saying deprecating things isn't cool, but it didn't hurt anyone either). As far as whether or not you should give'em a hug, ya, you probably should. Unless of course you think the 30-40 grand that they are pulling in for do 60hr plus weeks for a year in a third world country is somehow making out, then no, do whatever you please. Most vets really don't care what random internet trolls think.

nibiyabisays...

These guys should only be around to kick ass and leave -- if they really want to institute regime change (which I am completely against, by the way) they need to send in older diplomats, not hard-ass teenagers.

garshsays...

Cmon rougy. If you want to make everyone believe that the marines are nothing but jerks, you need to find a video of them raping all the women, shooting all the kids, and slicing their heads off with pocket knives.

If the worse thing they're doing is tricking non-English speaking kids into saying derogatory English phrases, you won't win many converts.

dw1117says...

I was suspecting something far worse than this. The only thing shown here is how war can bring boredom.

I don't think anyone would really want to see every aspect of war. It's like the old saying, "Politics is like making sausage, you don't want to see the whole process."

colt45says...

After having some time to absorb this, I don't see how this is any different than the asshole jocks at <insert highschool here> treat the "outsiders". These ones just happen to have guns and are in a different country. Their behavior sucks, but it isn't particularly abnormal, really.

deedub81says...

It's disappointing that they have such a bad attitude about their chosen profession.

I'll tell you why it's different than the "a**hole jocks at <insert highschool here>": Because to the people that run into these young men in other countries, theses soldiers represent America. ...and they're not in High School. Boredom isn't an excuse for poor behavior.

I'm glad this isn't a good representation of the majority.

rougysays...

"One question for you though, and if you could avoid name calling, slanderizing, generalizations and all that ugly business just for once, it would be great. Do you hate the military?"

I hate your glorification of the military. Why don't you rejoin and go to Afghanistan to join your "brothers." Can't you see how great it is?

This video was a direct response to your video glorifying the Marine Corps.

rougysays...

I didn't mean to post a duplicate, twiddles.

MG - your argument just doesn't hold water. The difference between Marines protecting our country and Marines trolling around the poorest areas of Afghanistan, mocking the children there and bitching about how rough they have it, is significant.

It's like the torture question. Pro-torture advocates are always using the "what if there was a nuclear bomb that was going to go off in a few hours." But that never happens, yet they continue to support torture.

Afghanistan could never attack us, yet, there we are in Afghanistan rolling around and whining about how bothersome their children are.

Our military is being misused and blind support is not helping matters.

By the way - what we're seeing in this video is quite probably the norm, not the exception.

MarineGunrocksays...

Rougy, what argument? I have made no argument here. Yes, I realize there is a difference between those things, and I am not saying that what those morons did was acceptable. However, I don't see why you would bring up them bitching about being there. It sucks. If you were somewhere you didn't like, you'd bitch to.

And yes, My video was glorifying the Marine Corps. The USMC is the greatest military force in existence right now, hands-down. Just because it is engaged in a war that not very many people support doesn't make every Marine a "thug for hire", an asshole, a murderer, rapist or whatever else we get called.

And by the way, please don't make claims that you can back up. This is not the norm. You have zero basis for that statement.
I don't think this is like the torture question at all. This is what your argument sounds like:

"Pro-torture advocates are always using the "what if there was a nuclear bomb that was going to go off in a few hours." But that never happens, yet they continue to support torture. Therefore, we shouldn't have a standing military just in case someone attacks us."

No, the Afghanis never attacked us. However, in case you were on the moon in the fall of 2001, Al-Q did. Al-Q Just happens to be based in Afghanistan. We're not attacking their people. We're not bombing their buildings. Yes, that shit might happen in Iraq, but that's not what this subject is.

rougysays...

We are too attacking the people of Afghanistan. We kill dozens of them every month. And that doesn't count the constant humiliation of having a foreign army in your country, searching your houses and picking your leaders.

We really don't know if Al Qaeda was behind the attacks, but that's for another post. And may I remind you that the Taliban offered to turn Osama bin Laden over to us if we'd provide proof he was behind the attacks. But we all know that the idea of Bush providing proof for anything is a total joke.

It's hard to have any sympathy for "the greatest military force in existence" when they are willingly involved in two illegal occupations, and bitching about how annoying the children are.

What pisses me off about you is that you keep showing these videos that make the military look like the best frat party since Animal House, and that's not what it's about.

MarineGunrocksays...

Are-you-fucking-kidding-me? We don't know? He admitted it on national fucking tv via videotape!

And I'm so sorry that my posting one video of the Marine Corps pisses you off. That video didn't show anything but Marines doing what they do. Only you would be pissed off about that.

No one was asking you to have sympathy for anyone. Just to quit hating people that would so readily give their lives for people like you. Whether or not they are fighting any wars that you think protect you is not the issue.
Also, please tell me what's illegal about the occupation of Afghanistan. I would like to have some solid evidence. The last I checked, people were up in arms about Iraq, not Afghanistan.

rougysays...

MGR - you do make some good posts, and overall, I like your input here. I'm a guest here and I don't want to take anything for granted.

But you're a war pornographer. You glorify and paint fun onto something that is, at heart, very serious and very deadly.

The wars that the U.S. Marines are fighting is the issue. For some reason, you can't get that through your head. You're always talking about what they would do or wouldn't do - but you don't seem able to see what they are doing.

Our invasion of Afghanistan is illegal according to international law - something the United States is famous for flouting.

MarineGunrocksays...

I'm not really sure what a war pornographer is... does that mean I enjoy watching videos of people getting blown up or just footage of military craft & people in action?

What I don't get about you is this: Instead of putting all this hatred toward the military, why don't you focus on the administration that sent them there? It's not like that Army or USMC is just going to say "No thanks."
