It's easier at that age. All anyone cares about in high school is that you're attractive and friendly. By 25, everyone is suspicious and paranoid and has unrealistic expectations.

No need to feel bummed; my last comment was made in jest.

But I do think that from mid-to-late twenties until mid-to-late thirties we tend to put up a lot of unnecessary barriers, mostly in response to negative relationship experiences. While it does save us some hurt, I think we eventually realize it makes happiness difficult as well.

The trick is to lower the barriers appropriately without settling for less than we want.
