Employees Laugh at CCTV of Texter Falling in Mall Fountain

sineral says...

Last semester, I take some garbage out to the dumpster. On my way back, I am looking down at my phone while following the sidewalk. Side walk turns left, I turn left. Up the steps, turn left again to my door. I open the door, finally look up from my phone, see three people I don't recognize staring at me and think "oh, my roommates have company over. Odd that I didn't notice them drive by". I step inside, shut the door, they're still staring at me, nobody says anything. I notice all the furniture is different and what goes through my head is "wow, they changed the furniture in the two minutes I was outside?" I stand there for what felt like hours trying to figure out what's going on, wondering if I had just stepped into the twilight zone. All of us are still silent, just staring at each other. Then I realized I was in the wrong apartment.

He only wanted some bacon!

sineral says...

Come on, its not THAT difficult to understand him.

employee 1 to employee 2:
"No no no, he didn't know that, that's alright, we don't put bacon on anything."

employee 3 to whole room:
"Don't cord me, bitch. Don't fucking record me"
"They fucking record me <something>"
<more world salad involving "record" and "bitch">
"Fucker gonna record me."
"I'm going to break your fucking legs man"

So, the guy flipping out is upset because he's being recorded. It's not clear from the video if that has anything to do with the other guy's bacon comment.

How satisfied are you with your job? (User Poll by peggedbea)

sineral says...

I'm a full time undergrad, studying physics, no job. I was thinking about getting a job next summer as a masseur, but then I found out you first have to study for a year at a cost of around $7000. I might still do that eventually, but for this coming summer I'll have to find something else to do.

Drilling a hole through your hand is difficult, until the drill makes it through the other side.
Or, more to the point:
Shutting down the rational part of your brain and activating self induced highs is difficult, until you've had a lot of practice.

The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim

sineral says...

My top 5 favorite games, in no particular order:
Portal
Final Fantasy 3
System Shock 2
Thief 2
Morrowind

Maybe, I'd have to think about it more actually. But that's a pretty damn good list anyways. All of those games except for Portal gave me a strong feeling of being immersed in an actual alternate world. Playing them felt less like playing a game and more like traveling to some far away land.

The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim

I hope it's better than Oblivion.
My first elder scrolls game was Morrowind. After playing that, Oblivion had a very strong console game feel to it. Morrowind felt bigger, more open, and more alive and real.

Chipotle's Fast Food Facelift

sineral says...

I went to Chipotle for the first time about two weeks ago. It really is amazingly good. Years ago, I used to eat at taco bell a lot until I started getting sick every time I went there. I've been to a couple other Mexican restaurants and wasn't too impressed. Chipotle totally blows them away.

How often do you go to Church? (or similar holy place) (User Poll by gwiz665)

sineral says...

I have never voluntarily been to church. I went a couple times as a very small child and wasn't too impressed with it. I remember, even then, hating when I had to go up to the front of the church with the other little kids and the preacher would condescend to us. When I was teenager I was forced to go with some relatives a couple of times. A couple of summers I was forced, with the threat of being whipped by belt, to attend sunday school. Good times.

Btw, why do I still have a P by my name? I thought once I posted a video that got 10+ votes the P would be gone.

Belle & Sebastian - SuicideGirl

You guys talking about rebellion are doing some serious projecting. All this video shows is two young attractive people enjoying the fact that they are young and attractive while they still can. Maybe you're bitter that attractive people are having fun and you're not. Well, pretty girls don't like me either, but that doesn't mean I go around wishing other people had the same sorry social life that I do.

I hate Eharmony

sineral says...

I signed up for eharmony earlier this year. After spending the time to go through their questionnaire, it comes back and tells me something along the lines of "We're sorry, but eharmony is not able to calculate matches for your personality type. But there's totally nothing wrong with you! Good luck elsewhere". I felt...hurt at the time. But this video explains it: I'm highly anti-religion.

CHILD TORTURE or HELPFUL THERAPY UN Calls On Obama to Stop

It depends on what the scientific literature says. And I believe the science is in agreement with what the doctor is doing, at least as it's presented in this video.

As when trying to determine when anything is good or bad, the relevant question is "Does this promote or hurt the long term prosperity of society?". The science says this is good for the individuals who need it, so the question is then "Does this negatively impact other people?". It could if, for example, the procedure were applied to people who the science says either do not need it or it will not work on. So there needs to be some system of checks to ensure the procedure is not abused. In the video, they said it requires a doctor's permission, the parent's permission, and court approval; that is more than enough oversight.

At first glance we may find this kind of treatment shocking. But I hypothesize that reaction is similar to our reaction when seeing humanoid robots in the uncanny valley. There is some combination of factors that we are not use to, directly or evolutionarily, seeing together--perhaps a person inflicting pain on another in a clinical unemotional way--so it produces in us a sensation that something is wrong. However, that indirect nature is actually a benefit if you compare the procedure with more commonplace methods of punishing children with pain. Whenever a person hits a child with a hand or belt or anything else, no matter how justified, he is directly teaching that child that violence and force are acceptable means of getting one's way. If the patients of the shock treatment do not perceive it as an aggressive action from another person, then all else being equal, that alone would make it superior to corporal punishment. And few(not enough) people get up in arms over corporal punishment.
