"Clean Coal Clean" - PSA by Coen Brothers

nadabu says...

Hell, even if you could extract energy from the coal "cleanly", you still can't take it from the ground without destroying the landscape and risking smoldering coal fires that burn for centuries. We must get free of coal, the worst of the fossil fuels.

Neil deGrasse Tyson: Who's More Pro-Science, Repubs or Dems?

The emphasis is supposed to be on the repeatability of results by independent experimenters, not peer consensus in "scientific" journals.

Hear, hear! Peer consensus is not at all meaningless, but it is also not at all science.

Legislation Without Representation

nadabu says...

Please note that i want to read the bills too. If these congresspeople are to represent us, then i want time for active citizens, lobbyists and the like to read the bill as well, that we can comment upon them prior to the vote. Or are we assuming that our representatives are wise enough to see every angle on these things?

Oh, the size of such documents is part of the problem too. Omnibus bills like this should also be illegal. The attaching of unrelated clauses is a form of political bribery at best and a form of blackmail at worst. This again, undermines the will of the people and even, at times, the representatives themselves. Are any of you aware of how the REAL ID act?

Legislation Without Representation

nadabu says...

I bought it, eh? I think someone didn't read the video summary.

And no, there was no redline electronic copy showing changes. Not even close. The New York Times described the bill this way: "looks more like the Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 1979 than of 2009 – filled with hand-written copy-editing marks, insertions scrawled in the margins, deletions of whole paragraphs boxed with X’s slashing through them, and a variety of curious hash marks and other annotations."

More hypocritical, yet correct outrage about these shenanigans here:
