Glenn Beck Links Violent Gang Fight to Rise of Atheism

guymontage says...

I wonder, then, how might he explain how the countries with the lowest crime rates, including violent crimes, are also the least religious countries?

Glenn Becks theory predicts the opposite, however, and therefor can be ignored.

I think that its too reasonable to be contrived, sure there is still a possibility, but yeah. If you watch entourage, you know that Adrian Grenier is more of a pretty face than a good actor. and yeah, he was overselling it to the point of looking disingenuous, and his arm gestures were annoying to even watch.

In my opinion, with art, i think its alright to be a bit of a fascist. not in the sense that you should be able to freak out at people for 5 minutes or be cruel or threatening, but i think if you have a vision or know exactly what you want, there shouldn’t be any compromises just because you've already tried the line 5 times.

maybe im bias since i like matt damon, the informer was great.....

This is all abit out of context; but i think it is reasonable for right wing supporters to protest against ACORN, given what a small section of them reportedly did around the time of electon. yeah its abit unrealistic to assume anwhere close to the majority ACORN members are "Frauds", since it as a whole represents a good cause, but generalizing isnt illegal or immoral, its just slightly ignorant.

How ever, NetRunner, at 2:12 the woman in the grey and red striped sweater does somewhat forcefully use her flag to try to stop the older man from walking forward, points it at his chest and then proceeds immediately to confront, push and appears to swing the flage towards the face of the woman with the old man.

thats just stupid and you cant do that. as irritating as the man shout was, he wasnt in the wrong, and I think the woman in the sweater should have been escorted away. people who act like that in those circumstances are opening up the situation for all types of wrongness. it could have gotten out of hand.

EDD is right on with the vaccines; there is no debate.

well maybe there is some controversy amongst people who must partition their time evenly defending claims such as "Man never stepped on the Moon", "9-11 WAS an Inside Job", "The CIA let UFOs mutilate cows and abduct rednecks in exchange for cellphones, microchips and Playstation 3s" and other non-sense.

Bill Maher Overtime with David Cross

Bill is funny, but his views on alt. med are wrong. When he states that treatments we've been using for 50 years haven't worked at all, he is dead wrong. Cancer is much too complicated to practically wipe out with a single solution, like polio or small-pox.even still, for white people the survival rates for cancer has gone from 39 percent in the 60's to 62 percent in 1998; this despite the cancer rates having increase (National Cancer Institute, Cancer Rates and Risks, 1998). I’m not sure where they are at now in 2009 but you can bet its better.

PS, they have been increasing for other races too, but for what ever reason, whites have increased the most.

I dont know if rotty is trying to point out another fallacy or if he is actually perpetuating it; surprise results in clinical trials does not mean "big pharmas (doesn’t) know WHY things work in many cases.". The end result might not be the same as the initial intent before and after the trials, but that’s how a lot of discoveries are made, and they might not have initially known the mechanism behind the end result, but they know the mechanisms by the time it is released on the market, that’s what the FDA requires by law of them. Teflon, microwaves, penicillin and Viagra where all accidental discoveries, but we obviously now know how they work and did know how they worked before they were released.

an interesting point; pharmaceutical companies need to know the mechanisms, risks, and effects of medicine before they release them ( via FDA, clinical trials and lab tests ) but alternative medicine companies ARE NOT REQUIRED TO TEST, PROVE OR UNDERSTAND THE MECHANISMS OR RESULTS THEY CLAIM OF THEIR PRODUCTS! simply because the legal classification of "alt. med".

gwiz, i don’t know if you heard this, but you may be pleased to know (since we are definitely on the same page on this), that acupuncture has been proven no more effective that a placebo; double blind studies have shown it doesn’t matter if you puncture the skin in the "appropriate places"(according to acupuncture techniques), if you puncture the skin in random places, or if you don’t puncture the skin at all (using "stage knife" needles that only look like they are puncturing); there is no difference! This means that the only benefits you get from acupuncture are merely placebo and not medically valid.

Yeah, i have a serious hair up my ass when it comes to this too. Especially when you hear public figures like bill saying that current medicine is not working and that bullshit, unproven quackery; the reason is that some people will take that advice and drop effective treatments for the alternative ones, usually get ripped off and often end up dying.

Interesting aside: there's a laser emitting device that scientists are testing for medical purposes which can target individual cells in deep tissue without removing any of the intervening tissues.

Even MORE impressive is that the duration of the actual laser beam burst that targets single cells is as short a time as it takes light to travel the width of a human hair. That's one short amount of time!!!

I liked the True Blood clip you posted and listening to a vampire speak Norwegian got me thinking; have you seen Let the Right One In? Sure, its Sweedish but something about those 2 languages and vampires mixes very well. If you havent seen it, it's an amazing movie.

I like Bill Maher and often agree with his views but he doesn't realise that constantly over plugging himself is only funny up to a point. He should watch Ricky Gervais maybe and take notes.

Did anyone watch the last Oscars where he was the presenter for best documentary and shamelessly plugged his mildly entertaining Religulous in between presenting the brilliant nominees? I think that is when I started having a problem with him.

Definitely a bitter sweet event; while certainly neat it's also utterly horrifying. Given there's a decent chance that intelligent life (or life if not intelligent) in that galaxy which is being completely sterilized by such a huge amount of high intensity radiation.

We could be witnessing the destruction of an entire civilization, maybe. Or maybe not, but imagine being the operator of the instrument that sees that jet in your galaxies path.
