Timber-Carrying Blimp - Horrible Crash

If they didn't have morons designing the thing, it would've been fine. The recent increase in HAA (high altitude airships) is really promising, so long as they don't hire these guys to design them.

Damn, that looks good. I read that the small team of 10+ interns that put the first together has been blown up to 50+, but with the same creative team at the top. Oh how I hope they don't kill the charm by making it bigger than it needs to be.

I love Michael Shermer, I just wish his books were a little more enjoyable to read. Dawkins writes with such finesse and passion. It always seems like Shermer is writing a treatises rather than a book designed to reach a large audience.

He's a good speaker, though.

I love this short. Children's stories don't have to treat their audiences like morons. Simple, beautiful art, action-packed, etc. Better than most of the multi-million dollar tripe pouring out of the big studios recently.

yeah. you just need to match the exact projector position (and lens data) in your modeling software and match "CAD World" and "Real World" and it should work.

Still. There's a couple things they did to make it look so good. They put an ND filter over the projector to cut down on the light spill, and stuck with mostly primary, highly saturated colors to make the dynamic contrast pop. The system contrast is probably really high, like 20:1 or something. The physical objects "screen" gain also has to be pretty low. .15 or .2 at least.

It's really well done, and I've seen dozens of these surface-projected systems.

Ban Textbook for Dismissing Creationism as Biblical Myth?

eatbolt says...

If they were describing the Egyptian creation story of the Earth rising out the primordial chaos in the same book, wouldn't it be fair to call it a myth? Or should they temper the the language by saying, "The chaotic waters, called Nu, giving rise to the holy mound that the Earth eventually rose out of is one possible explanation for genetics, biology, and paleontology, but it's up to the reader to decide." It's a called a creation myth exactly the same way all other stories involving gods creating the world are called myths.

There has to be some standard of education. Quality is very important to assure that all children are receiving at least some semblance of what we call truth at that time. Calling things as they are is not a bias. It's just the truth. Get over it.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Use Their Weapons

eatbolt says...

I have been waiting to see that for years. I remember, even as a small kid, sitting on the floor yelling, "No! You're letting them get away! Just use your swords. Come on!" Then, years later, I caught a rerun of some of the later episodes and Michelangelo had these little turtle-shell hook things instead of his nunchucks. Lame.
