Reid Hitting Romney Hard Over (Possibly) Unpaid Taxes
Agreed. It would be pretty incredibly stupid.
But whatever the reason it has to be something worth taking all the heat over (which, to my mind, would have to be something that would render him essentially unelectable).
Reid Hitting Romney Hard Over (Possibly) Unpaid Taxes
Well, I don't claim to be an expert on the topic but from what I have read about the 2009 amnesty program, it appears to apply to individuals with Swiss bank accounts...
From the Oct 2009 LA Times,
"Some 3,000 U.S. residents have voluntarily disclosed their foreign bank accounts to the IRS this year, compared to fewer than 100 in 2008, said one U.S. government official who asked not to be identified.
Demand for the amnesty program exploded in August when Swiss bank UBS agreed to settle U.S. criminal charges that it had engaged in a "multibillion-dollar scheme" to help U.S. taxpayers hide assets from the IRS."
Admittedly this is just speculation and I have no proof that Romney ever did this. But to state the obvious, whatever is in his tax returns is political kryptonite or he would never put up with the beating he's taking (and will continue to take) for this...
Reid Hitting Romney Hard Over (Possibly) Unpaid Taxes
I suspect that Romney was one of the guys who sheltered massive amounts of money in Swiss bank accounts to avoid US taxes and then took advantage of the 2009 ollyollyoxenfree that allowed that money to be moved back into the US without penalties.
Just my guess...
Romney Will Fight Against Medical Marijuana
God he's an idiot...
What Happened When Portugal Decriminalized Drugs? -- TYT
Well, duh.
On a related note, it's interesting to me that, with more than 15 years of legalized medical marijuana in the US (California being the first in 1996), you would think that the the opponents to relaxation of the drug laws would have mountains of evidence to back up their claims of social armageddon (at least with respect to marijuana).
But, of course this isn't the case, demonstrating in sharp relief the fact that the drug war is nothing but a huge business enterprise with strong interests perpetuating an ongoing persecution of our citzenry for the profits of said interests.
Fuckin' ridiculous.

A Review Of The Game : Crusader Kings 2
This game is awesome.
Relatively steep learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it'a really very fun and addictive.
My first pass with it felt a lot like what's described in the video - you're pretty overwhelmed and confused but then things click and actually get quite busy as you're managing multiple fronts, political intrigue, uprisings, etc.
YMMV of course...

The Inequality Speech About The Rich, TED Won't Show You?
From JMZERO:
One possible source for that concentration is "some rich guy", and many businesses are indeed started that way. It's not crazy or wrong to say that over-taxing rich people could have economic harms through this kind of mechanism. It's a ridiculous false dichotomy to say that it's only the consumers that are the key to business development.
Here's what I don't get in this argument... How does raising the income tax (taxing money taken home and spent on whatever you want) harm business investments and their economic benefits when any money spent on them are TAX DEDUCTIBLE? I would think that a higher income tax would encourage "some rich guy" to invest his money in his business rather than taking home the money and paying the higher tax.
No?
