The very best of Colin Mochrie
This video contained few, if any, of his best moments.
Whale Shark Sucks Fish Out of Hole of Fishing Net
Whale sharks eat plankton. Any fish that get pulled in are collateral damage. Actually, not even "damage", as they get shot out the gills unharmed.
Edit: Well wikipedia says they do occasionally eat very small fish, my bad.
SimCity E3 Gameplay Trailer
Except it will be infected by stupid DRM.
Protesting a Protester
Who knows what the demographics of the area are. There are plenty of small towns in this country where you can walk around downtown for an hour and see nothing but white people. In fact, I suspect that there's a correlation between limited exposure to minorities and still saying stupid stuff like this 50 years after the civil rights movement.

This is a great sentiment, and more power to the guy. But I couldn't help but notice with the exception of a single woman in the first ten seconds. Every single person in this video was white.

Leading demands for a revised strategy, French Socialist Francois Hollande, a reader of Krugman, tops President Nicolas Sarkozy in the polls with the warning that putting debt-cutting over expansion is “bringing desperation to people.” Elsewhere, Greeks are turning to anti-austerity parties, recession-wracked Spain and Italy are relaxing deficit targets, the Dutch government is splintering and European Central Bank President Mario Draghi is calling for a “growth compact.”
.
This attitude strikes me as totally bogus. We think the European voters are voting on macro-economic policy? They're throwing out governments because they're unhappy, and they're installing people who promise them higher spending because they like having the government that spends money on them. Italy and Spain aren't revising their deficit targets because of some new found economic enlightenment, they simply lack the willpower or competence to live within their means.
Maybe stimulative policies are better than austerity. I'm not an economist, so I don't know. What I do know is that voters and politicians haven't stopped being short-sighted.

Making sure that art is available to all people and not the exclusive domain of the privileged few who can afford it is a worthy goal in my book.
I guess in some other people's books, building beautiful buildings where people can worship is a worthy goal. I wouldn't expect everyone to agree with your interpretation of what is a good use of money and what isn't.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the arts too, and certainly benefit from those who support it extravagantly. The question is whether those supporters need their donations subsidized by the government (who in turn takes money from the food/shelter/college budget of middle class families).
Birth To 12 Years Old In Under Three Minutes
This is a startling video for a new father. Mine's about 8 seconds in right now, and she's already growing up too fast for my taste.
Evacuated Tube Transport: Around the World in 6 Hours
The US can't even pony up the money for the kind of high speed rail that Europe has had for 30 years. I see China beating us to this one by about a century.
9.999... reasons that 0.999... = 1 -- Vi Hart
I don't know why messenger sifted this, but as someone who gets paid to think about math, there are several features of this video that struck me as unusually worthwhile. Here are the two unusual points that I saw here:
1) Math is whatever we define it to be. The test of a new idea is whether it is self-consistent and whether it solves a problem that someone else is interested in. This is a good message for anyone who comes up against difficult abstract problems in their life.
2) To argue about a certain set of objects, you need to work within the framework of a theory that defines those objects. Specifically, to argue about infinite decimals, you need to work within the machinery of calculus. Hidden assumptions often make a true argument incomplete, or a plausible argument vacuous. We waste so many hours in heated arguments that are just a disagreement on definitions or assumptions.
9.999... reasons that 0.999... = 1 -- Vi Hart
There was a lot more real math in this video than I usually see in these arguments, so upvote for that.
Obama: If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon
>> ^HenningKO:
Sucks he can't say what he feels. He looks in pain. The one real thing he said... the title of this post... speaks volumes tho.
Looks like the sun is in his eyes, to me.
Full Metal Jacket (in a 5 seconds)
I know many of these "5 second" films are slightly over 5 seconds, but this one wasn't even trying.
Ron Swanson on Vegan Bacon
I'm a vegan and I approve this message.

Yay Obama and Socialism I want to work hard then give half my earnings to the soldiers who defend my freedom, the workers who maintain my roads and the teachers who educate the workforce that makes my success possible.
