I completely disagree with you Ant...

As Golds, the Sift Bot invocations are [usually] hard earnt: and as such are completely at the discretion of the Gold-Star Sifters (the save & promote). I don't tell you what you can and can't save etc...and would expect the same from others (unlike my promote here).

As I understand it, promotes are anything the Sifter feels is a classic...that's obviously very subective to that person (and all my promotes were under 20 votes - I don't care how long its taken, if they're overlooked they get it!)

If anything, the Bronze-Star ability needs rules (*ahem downvotes?!) - like what was discussed back here in Sift Talk.

I agree with Benjee, I don't think any limits should be set. I believe that administrative powers should only be given to Gold Stars. Bronze is too low of a level to give functionality to, especially as the user base increases.

Also I want the Ratio system proposed much earlier to take effect with Upvotes and Downvotes. At least on user profiles so we have some way of knowing if someone is spamming downvotes.

We already have a limit of one promote per week, ant, I think that limit validates the choice itself.

In the same vein, perhaps we could also limit the number of downvotes one can give in a week, as well. That would certainly make people think twice about it, anyway...

i disagree. downvotes should be free to be given out as it's already limited to bronze star members who have earned the right to do it. if a video is having trouble making it out of the queue, a gold star can always save it. seems to give a nice balance.

promote also should be free to be given out.. the Free Hugs Campaign vid was promoted within 15 days which i totally agreed with. Not enough people were watching it then and still, it has less votes then most daily show/colbert report videos, which is ridiculous. Are videosifters really that cold?
