Rewarding original video uploaders/owners

I was wondering whether it might be possible to make votes on videosift translate to an increase in the star-rating of the original youtube video?

This way we could show gratitude to the original uploaders (and possibly creators) of the videos - something i often do by going to the site in question and vote manually (for the hexakopter vid for instance).

i thought about having siftbot auto-comment on the video site "congrats, your video is #1 at videosift.com!", but that might make them think "wtf is this leecher site?". A more eloquent message might do the trick though.

It's a nice idea, but probably very hard to do. Secondly it would be something that YouTube and co would highly frown upon, as basically an external site is adding comments and votes to YouTube videos, and that's something that could be abused from their point of view. So it may not be possible anyway.

But yeah, sometimes videos do come along where you want to give the original owner some credit or comment. However, for me, that's quite a rare occurence, so when it does happen I don't mind going out of my way there and then.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I thought about this too - and @Hybrid's conclusion is what I came to as well.

I would say that for the most part, YouTube uploaders appreciate exposure of their content - as a reward. They do watch their stats on YouTube and can tell when VideoSift has driven a lot of views to their content.

Can they tell on youtube with regards to view count? I've wondered if the embed video views count or not to the youtube numbers. Not in the star points on youtube but in the number of views there generally. Does anyone know if an embedded youtube video is dislocated from it's original and not counted with it's views?>> ^dag:

Sorry about my above comment my reply got jumbled there for some reason.

Every time I post their stuff, I send them props.

^seems a good way to go about it, choggie. And for the rest of the videos, I guess view count is a nice enough currency.
I just think it could be nice to reward them more... a free tshirt for video of the year perhaps? (gift certificate, not merchandise)... or a free front page promotion for their next video - guaranteed 1000s of views... if the paid promotion thing is still on.
