Is There a Doctor in the House?

Since this is my web community, I thought I'd ask here first. Is there anyone here qualified to tell me something about aminoglycoside toxicity? As a few know, I've been experiencing symptoms of vertigo, oscillopsia, gait ataxia, etc. I literally lost about two weeks of my life . . . don't remember much (conversations melted together and forgotten, lucid moments - few). I know that you might think I've been hanging with the Choggster, but it really seems like I got some bad mojo from the Doc.

If anyone has any information or can point me to a clearing house regarding drug poisoning (especially ototoxicity caused by -mycin drugs) I would be much in debt.

Just makin' it through each day . . .

The M.D. I just asked said: Get your ass to the doctor's.

I personally add this link and my own urging to get your ass to the doctor's. I've had two friends recently hospitalized from a disease that began with symptoms far, far less worrying, and nearly ended up there myself.

Losing time, vision problems, balance problems are all very worrying symptoms, all of which point to an extreme need to be checked out in person by a physician. My unlicensed butt reads: "All aminoglycosides produce renal toxicity (often reversible) and vestibular and auditory toxicity (often irreversible)." So....if you are indeed suffering from aminoglycoside overdose, waiting too long could cause permanent balance and hearing problems, and maybe if you're lucky your kidneys won't shut down for good. And if it's not aminoglycosides...you're still suffering from symptoms that indicate something could be seriously wrong.

Please, dude. Get thee to a physicary.

I'm not an MD but I know a lot about systems biology. I'd put down the keyboard and get a friend to drive you to the ER. Insurance will cover it but if you're not totally sure, call your insurance company's hotline first and more than likely they'll say, "go to the ER." In any case, if the ER turns out to be an over-reaction, that's fine. Happens all the time. At least you'll be seeing pros with the tools to find out what is going on rightquick. Blood and urine tests will likely tell them what they need to know and most STAT labs are in the hospitals and running 24/7. Praying for you. Give us an update when things are better.

wow....My grams and grandpa, both suffered hearing loss from a mycin-based vaccination in the 50's er 60's......as a result, I have gone from telling doctors that I have allergies to them, to simply not going to any doctors, for anything short of blood loss, or trauma leading to shock.....My trust in listening to my body, and knowing what I know to be true about myself from past daily blood work.....I am always asking reading and learning, and a good general rule of thumb is, don't worry, and don't put faith in a doctor, simply because of the phd, you have to find a good one, like you would a peach inna bushel-SOMEWHERE, someone has had what yuu are suffering with, and the last thing you want, is to pogo-stick around, to a buncha half-baked Franks, who want to try out their new battery of Phiser-samples, (pharmy-fest bastards, most), using your liver as a fucking volunteer, catch-all.......Doc_M's right, the fluids tell the story, at the very least, your liver is temporarily toxed, and needs a rest, regardless of the vertigo symptoms.....

I have been to the Dr. and referred to a couple of specialists. I'm O.K. for right now and am investigating root cause(s). I appreciate the input and will be following up shortly. Also, private messaged to me was some valuable info. Thanks, Sifters!
