3D Display Projects Images Into Mid-Air (No Screen)

newtboy says...

Awesome technological *quality !
I can imagine this replacing ALL outdoor lighting. How cool would it be for street lights and signal lights to no longer require large poles, but just be a light floating in mid air 10 ft above? It could clean up metropolitan areas immensely, and remove many obstructions to taller vehicles/loads.
They just need to power up, add color, and stop the blinking so they don't trigger epileptics.

EDIT: My wife just pointed out that it's highly likely that we're now going see 'wacky wavy digital arm flailing tube men' on every corner once they commercialize this. :-(

Power-Up Mix-Up

NEAR FATAL HEAD ON CRASH

chingalera says...

Head-on not applicable here, eh? The direction the engines' facing doesn't factor when one's in reverse and one's powered forward or at rest-One train braked in the nick and almost slammed another train with an engine facing the camera almost at a dead-stop. Looks like the fated train was moving forward in an attempt to power-up and avoid the impact should that other not have stopped. I would have bailed-out too, smart engineer or conductor.

Australian police use civilians as roadblock

Why don't the cops just drive close to him and use EMP power up? Newbs.

Don't cop cars in Australia come with banana peels?

That's a GREAT idea! Next time the police should just ask all the civilians to throw out their banana peels, turtles or squid instead of forming a road block.

Epic Stop Motion (Gundam) Battle

jmd says...

It seems to be one of the older original gundam series before they became super powered up.

A few things irk me on this animation though.

1) manual cocking of the guns.. not one but several of the weapons used here seem to have manual rod latches... WHY?! Gundam weapons should have zero problems having their internal bullet feeding mechanism be totally automatic. It isn't super mario 3 where the world of humans was made smaller, the guns are bigger, much bigger.

2) No radio communication? in the anime series they never seemed to be able to shut up.

3) Wide spread shots during air combat made bullet dodging convincing in the anime, but not so much on the ground. Gundams were usually forced to absorb a shot or two before quickly dispatching mobile armors, not play neo and dodge everything with matrix like reflexes.

Time to Trim the Interface? (Sift Talk Post)

Deano says...

I agree it looks a bit cluttered. Always tempting to strive for minimalism though you don't want to reduce too much. That said;

I never click Blogs. How about if someone has a blog that appears as a link right after their name?

The social media stuff could be on the frontpage only and removed from the header. If I ever did Like the site on Facebook I'm only ever going to do that once. Then again you'd miss the drive-by clicks if you did that.

Playlists. I'm betting that's not clicked a lot. I've always said that they need powering up and until then probably don't warrant a main link in the interface. They're more useful being discovered through each video.

Members. This could definitely be moved to a sub-heading.

Ron Paul Booed For Endorsing The Golden Rule

I'm so curious to why people reject that notion. Is it purely fear of other religions and cultures? Are that many americans actually for invading other countries? I've never encountered that state of mind before, at all. From my experience most people are pretty quick to equate War with Evil.

I have a theory that most Americans know pretty much what we're doing. The fight between the indoctrinated (both the right and the left) is actually a fight about how we should go about doing what we're doing in the world..
Democratic presidents aren't any better on war crimes than Republican presidents. They just seem to be in the business of trying to tell everyone they're being nice and when they have to do something awful it's all the other countries fault...
This is also helped along by the media who play their role well.

Exactly. Without war America goes back to the 30's - California's border closed, 400,000,000 acres of farmland turned to dust by greed and lack of regulation, stillbirths due to malnutrition, bank of America paying people (WHITE People!) 5c a day for picking lettuce and beating them in some cases to DEATH for demanding a liveable wage (it was 25c before the excess labour turned up from the dust bowl).
Then corresponding communist organisation by the workers, FBI involvent in repression via total constitutional breaches, etc etc.
Without WW2 it looked like civil war - or reduction to a slave force for big east coast finance. Then the massive battle fleet parked off the coast of Japan mysteriously provoked an attack - and whammo - a job for everyone, a new massive industry (still what America spends half of all it's money on to this day), and a border extended effectively all the way around the globe, allowing the cycle to start again except on a much bigger stage.
What happens now when the organisms reach the edge of the petri dish? Well, better stick some of that annual $1 trillion into FTL research cos we're going to need a new planet.
The choice - face up to it, or shout boo at anyone who tries to tell you the truth.

Welcome to the world of bullshit for people who only speak and know bullshit -- that's everyone, FYI. And it's going to be that way for all of time, whether it's at the workplace of 2012, politics in 3012, or Sunday school at the Grand Cabal's Science Center for Observable Theological Theory in the year 100,012. I already have FTL drives and I keep em powered up wherever I go.

A Dumbfuck George W Moment You Haven't Heard Yet

I take no pleasure in Britain quickening demise; anywhere socialism rises, freedom falls, that's how it always ends. Fortunately, neither my being a bot or you being a non-expert will make this explanation difficult:
People have unlimited wants and a supposed set of finite needs. When socialists attempt to satisfy basic needs (with other people's money) it works at first, until people realize they can satisfy more of their wants by relabeling them needs (or rights). Health care is a right. Daycare is a right. Living wage is a right, etc.
British "conservatism" is a far cry from American conservatism. Define it as, "Too little, too late".
Britain leads Europe in the proportion of single mothers and co-leads the European Union in violent crime, alcohol and drug abuse, obesity and sexually transmitted diseases. Yep, that must all be due to conservatism! Certainly the welfare state wouldn't destroy people's interest in helping themselves.

Oh, where to begin?
There are probably dozens of these moments on the scorecard of every celebrity, great and small. I'll even give Obama a free pass for calling Hawaii "ASIA" during one of his many campaign stops taxpayer-funded vacations important meetings. Props to the libmedia who downplay His Earness's gaffes. His larger gaffes, like the economy, price of gasoline, failures as Commander-In-Chief, we'll leave to the few history books not written by leftards.
Referring to this BBC show: no one across the pond should be calling anyone here dumb. USA may be almost a police state, but Britain's been disarmed and defeated by socialism for decades. Bankrupt Eurounion. Smile for the 10,000,000 cameras, serfs.
Wales? Not enough to even register one who-gives-a-shit. Last time I heard of anything Welsh was a maintenance man killed by a werewolf in Stephen King's Silver Bullet.
Bush flew jets. You're a spoiled singer. Deal.
You're wearing me down QM. I actually agree with almost everything you just said. Will this cost me some power points or something?
Really though I dont respond well to criticisms from across the pond right now, I dont think they have our back, I'm not sure they have their own back.

Heh. I guess i better say something like "Welcome to the UK, bitch!" Nice insult. But don't get too in-depth with QM, i suspect he's actually just a cleverly programmed bot that repeats political catchphrases and buzzwords from fox news.
For example - margaret thatcher was in power up until 1990 and elected 11 years before that. So i think it's fairly safe to say that she was in charge of "Britain" 20 years ago. Margaret thatcher was not a socialist - she was incredibly critical of it, and her policies reflected that.
Many of Britain's big state owned companies/whatever were privatised, john major followed and was himself a thatcherite, followed by labour around the millennium who were more willing to adopt in-place conservative economic policies.
So it's relatively safe to say that britain has become significantly less socialist since 30 years ago and was well into that stride 20 years ago.
But of course, he's just a political catchphrase bot, that's why he said "Britain's been defeated by socialism since...", there's no meaning behind it.
I'm no expert on politics (which makes me immediately more qualified than QM), but i think one word you couldn't apply to margaret thatcher's britain is socialist.
We're IN a shit state because of thatcher. The Britain we all remember fondly? Amazing NHS, schools, industry, army, politeness, fairness? That's pre-80s britain, dude.

Then you have once more constructed a circular argument in which you win.

If socialism is in place, we are defeated by socialism.
If socialism is not in place, we are defeated by socialism?

You leave no criteria for the answer to be any different, as far as i can tell this argument leads to the idea that even if socialism didn't exist we'd be defeated by it.
