Camel Flings Man by the Head

newtboy says...

Perhaps SOME farmers kill their animals like this in the US, but certainly not all. My family doesn't, and we've raised cattle, goats, lambs, chickens, turkeys, etc. We shoot the large animals first and knock out the smaller ones....and have done so ourselves for over 40 years, and I have been involved numerous times. People who kill like in this video are uncaring animal abusers. People who condone it are condoning animal abuse.

When you make an assumption you've made an ass out of you and Mption....and what did Mption do to deserve that?

This was not "slashing the carotid artery", this was a near decapitation. Slashing the jugulars can be done with a small knife, it doesn't require a chainsaw. You only need to make 2 small puncture cuts, not a 2-3foot long slice 1/2 decapitating the animal but leaving it conscious. They're doing it wrong.

Anything going through the camel's brain will kill it, they don't need a gun to not abuse this poor animal to death, although it certainly makes it easier on everyone.

Hero Defends a Defenseless Blind Kid

I think twitching and other weird movement is normal after getting knocked out. I've only watched a little MMA, but seen it plenty of times. You can also see it in ride-along fighter jet videos where the pilot pulls G's until the passenger blacks out. While they're out and/or waking up some weird stuff happens.

Oh my god

You remind me of the time my grandmother, at 91 years old, was walking her small dog on Memorial Drive in Houston (MAJOR street, up to hundreds of cars per minute). She tripped on a crack in the sidewalk and fell hard on her face, smashing it badly and knocking out some teeth. She ended up crawling well over 2 blocks on hands and knees in full view of the street (no bushes or trees obstructing the view), bleeding profusely down her face, and not a single car stopped to help. That was over 6 years ago, and it still boils my blood that so many people are so uncaring/unhelpful, and it makes me think these are likely the same people that beg for help at the slightest discomfort in their own lives.
Sometimes I just hate humans.

Not at all joking.

If it was staged, then I rescind my remarks about this particular video, but the sentiment in general still stands.

I find it atrocious when people do little more than stand around laughing at someone who is in legitimate need of assistance or at least compassion from their fellow human beings.

I think that is probably lacking more in America (where so many people are so arrogant, selfish, self-centered, and entertained by and numb to the suffering of others) than many or most other first-world civilizations.

A perfect backflop

Payback says...

I took judo for like, 2 hours, so I'm like an expert on cushioning falls, but I've done this landing -from about that high- both forwards and backwards and it's 20x less painful on your back.

You have to be going quite a bit faster than a 12-14 ft drop before the "like hitting concrete" effect starts to factor in. The horizontal speed she has helps too. The force isn't straight down but on an angle.

I will agree she probably had the breath knocked out of her.

Asmo said:

It's not only the sting of the slap, it's the raw concussive force of a large surface area (ie. nape to ass) meeting strong surface tension. The best way to land is to break the surface tension with the smallest area possible (ie. fingertips, toes etc) allowing the body to slide in to the water.

Frozen Lullaby by Garfunkel and Oates

eric3579 says...

*promote (got me by 5 min)

When a man doesn’t love a woman very very much
He signs away his paternal rights and jizzes in a cup
Then with lots of money and scientific genius
Hormones, pain and of course, um… Jesus

The process begins the way god intended
With a transvaginal ultrasound
With a wand longer than a ukulele
When it comes out of my body, it makes this sound (pop)

I give myself daily intradermal injections
An acute blood thinner and estrogen concurrence
Cryopreservation through hormonal activation
And none of it’s covered by insurance

Then I’m knocked out and you’re removed
And combined with a stranger’s come
And as the saying goes
You win some, you lose some/you dispose of the defective ones in a hazardous waste bin

And then you’re frozen until I’m certain
It’s time to unthaw you into a person
Then you’ll expire or you’ll make the grade
And that, my darling, that’s how babies are made
(It’s so easy and natural)

CHORUS:
Hush little egg baby don’t say a word
Mama’s gonna freeze you til she gets rich

And when that day finally arrives
You’ll be constructed in a petri dish
With sperm donor 8w6-3
The silent partner of our family

So hush little egg baby don’t be sad
Just because I never fucked your dad

VERSE 2:
I know there are orphans everywhere
But I’m going to pretend that isn’t real
Don’t look at me like that just cause I admit it
You had kids and you knew the deal

Yeah I feel guilty about overpopulation
And ruining the environment for forever
But Osama Bin Laden had 20 kids
So fuck you or whatever

Sadly procreation is not a meritocracy
And we need to prevent a real life Idiocracy
Though it may be the ultimate form of narcissism
It’s also a way to re-reverse reverse Darwinism

Gonna mute the sound of that ticking clock
I just need the sperm now I don’t need the cock
My ovaries are like hey girl I’m over here
And I’m all like shhhh

I want all the stuff I don’t need a bucket list
It doesn’t make me greedy it just makes me feminist
Now I’m thinking back through all the guys I’ve dated
If they heard this song they’d fucking hate it

CHORUS:
Hush little egg baby don’t you cry
You’ll have the best genes mommy can buy

I don’t want to wait until I get in dire straights
My friends say if I want kids I should go out on some dates
But these working bitches don’t have time to leave it to the fates
The world deserves more Riki’s and the world deserves more Kate’s

So hush little egg baby dad’s are overrated
He did what mattered when he masturbated

BRIDGE:
Hush little egg baby just hold firm
Mama’s gonna buy you designer sperm

And if that sperm gives you random traits
Mama’s gonna test your dna

And if your dna doesn’t make things clear
Mama’s gonna just have to live in fear

And if that fear turns into guilt
Mama’s gonna hold onto what we built

And if I hold too tight as to suffocate
I’ll buy you lots of things to overcompensate

And if that overcompensation’s too transparent
I’ll pretend it’s somehow better with no male parent

And if you say but mom who’s my dad
I’ll say I don’t know and it’s just too bad

And if that badness forms a hole in your heart
I’ll want to make it up to you but won’t know where to start

I’ll probably start by saying it’s just you and me
And there’s no such thing as a normal family

So fuck being normal and let’s do this shit
Momma’s gonna freeze you til she… gets…. rich

Airsoft Sniper

jimnms says...

I've never played airsoft, but I played paintball years ago. I can't imagine airsoft hurting worse than paintball, especially seeing some of the people in this video playing with just glasses on. Paintball shots leave massive welts, and hitting the right place can break the skin. I still have a scar on my leg from a paintball hit, and I've seen a guy get knocked out from a head shot. Some guy climbed a treed and shot someone from above. The masks don't cover the top of your head, and he got hit right on the top of his and dropped him limp and out cold for a few seconds.

RFlagg said:

I'd have to think being shot by an airsoft would hurt far worse than a paint ball gun... but heck, in this video http://videosift.com/video/Funny-Airsoft-Hostage there's a kid playing, and some of these people get hit what looks like in the head by the sniper.

Russian Drifting

newtboy says...

From my experience, and physics class, that should only be true if your brakes suck. Physics don't lie, and I was taught that static friction is ALWAYS greater than kinetic friction...meaning rolling tires grip better than sliding tires every time. If your brakes are able to grip with more 'stopping' force than the sliding tire produces and still allow 'slip', they should be able to stop you faster than sliding.

Perhaps on ice that's true, or other slippery surfaces where the sensors get confused, or with really bad or broken ABS, but good ABS seriously reduces the distance to stop AND retains control by rapidly (thousands per second) pulsing the braking force up to maximum possible force without stopping the rotation. That should be more stopping force than locked tires can produce if the brakes are in good condition.

I've been in the car when an idiot friend decided to prove it to me, and slammed on his new BMW's brakes at about 70mph. The seatbelt hit so hard I had the wind knocked out of me, and we stopped ridiculously fast (WAY faster than when I've locked up non-abs cars on the freeway...repeatedly). Afterwards, he needed new brakes all around, because they gripped so hard and hot it warped the new rotors, but never locked up the tires...retaining static friction between the road and tire. Dumb...but informative.

Payback said:

Newt, I gotta tell ya, there is no quicker way to stop than locking up all four wheels, other than spinning in the other direction on a dry surface to kill inertia (makes it worse on ice). You just have no control. ABS brake systems actually increase the distance needed to stop, they just provide the ability to control and turn at the same time.

Gillian Jacobs robbed on a train

CaptainObvious says...

So apparently this happens quite a bit on overnight trains. Found numerous articles including the following.

http://bobarno.com/thiefhunters/train-theft-p3/

"KNOCK-OUT GAS ON OVERNIGHT TRAINS - Atul and Smriti Shah experienced it first-hand. “It happened during the night,” they concluded. “The entire compartment was sprayed with some sort of gas that knocked us out. Then our suitcase was slowly extracted from under our seat, the lock twisted loose and, with all the time in the world, the suitcase was looted....”"

Jon Stewart Goes After NFL over Ray Rice

MilkmanDan says...

I haven't followed this too closely, but I at least partially disagree with Stewart here:

1) The original video from outside the elevator didn't really provide conclusive proof about what happened. Her being knocked unconscious as a result of physical violence was the most likely explanation for what we saw there, but I think there was room for reasonable doubt at the time. She could have been passed out drunk or otherwise intoxicated, or knocked out by somebody else.

That original video was certainly enough to have police look into the event further. I assume that happened, but I don't know the results. I can only assume that no charges were pressed. Beyond that, I didn't / don't think it was necessary for the NFL to get involved at all. Especially since the first video didn't really prove that he did anything wrong.

2) If the NFL wanted to get involved, sure they could try to get their hands on more evidence (like the 2nd video). But, it isn't really their business -- let the police worry about that. And taking any actions against a player that is a suspect of any crime would be risky too... For example, a policy of suspending a player that has an active investigation against them before it has been concluded could easily be abused.

3) Maybe the NFL saw the 2nd video a long time ago, and maybe they didn't. Their actions now definitely seem like spin / damage control, but I don't think it is particularly fair to get all ticked off at the NFL even if you assume that they are lying and that they had seen the 2nd video a long time ago.

If the police and prosecutors want to send Rice to jail for his actions, by all means do so -- it would be well deserved. But criminal justice isn't in the purview of the NFL. Let the police take care of it, and if they fail to punish him adequately it is their fault, not the NFL's.

Now that the NFL has (and is forced to acknowledge) the definitive evidence about what happened from the 2nd video, it is fine (and GOOD) that they suspended him. But, I'm not too upset at them for taking their time to decide to do that. The slaps on the wrist from the criminal justice system are a much bigger concern, at least from my point of view.

But, I haven't been following this story too closely, so maybe I missed some stuff that would sway my opinion.

Keith Olbermann Tackles Sexism in Sports

Januari says...

I agree with his assessment towards women in sports and society in general. But, where i'm not sure i follow is the NFL punishing someone for something that is outside its purview. I understand they regularly do this with any number of things, but in this case what crime is that video showing?

Do i think Ray Rice knocked out his wife, Yes! But the video doesn't show that... and as i understand it (i'm sorry i'm not looking up the details of this story so if i'm wrong... ) his wife isn't pressing charges and the DA isn't prosecuting because of a weak case.

I don't know... The NFL's list of would be convicts if they'd of had any other job is EXTREMELY long...

Not sure Ray Rice is particularly special because his alleged victim was a woman and his wife.

restocking a lake with fish from a plane

Sagemind says...

When I say "Hitting that waters surface is pretty hard!"
I'm not saying it's difficult for the pilot to hit the target.
I'm saying that the fish falling would be hitting a hard, solid surface of the water, knocking out or killing many of them.

Looked easy to me. In fact, I don't think a single fish missed!
