How Steve Irwin Reacts to the Deadliest Snake in America

One Way To Deal With A DUI Checkpoint (Refusal)

Trancecoach says...

I paid a hefty fine once for playing music in my car and refusing to turn it down when a cop told me to do so. I thought I was within my rights, so I took him to court and lost.

>> ^honkeytonk73:

A veteran cop friend effectively told me once:
If a police officer asks you anything, and if you aren't legally obligated to answer. Then don't answer. Cops understand this. Their job is to 'trick' you into revealing more information than is legally required and potentially incriminate yourself. A cop can and will use anything you say against you. Their word > your word in a court of law. Even if their word is inaccurate or misconstrued based upon something you said or did.
If you are courteous, respectful, understand your rights, and are doing nothing illegal , there is no need to fear. But, if you do this and are drunk, aggressive/violent or have anything considered illegal in your vehicle. Then you better not drop the soap when you get in the slammer.
Take it this way. If you did nothing wrong and didn't break the law and they arrest you. The cops know their asses will be handed to them and you'll have a big settlement on your hands.
Most cops are the good-guys, including my friend and cousin (who is a cop). But there are some bad seeds who likely got into the job for the power factor. Those are the assholes. I was pulled over by two so far over the years.
-The first one lied and said I was speeding. I used evidence, and reverse questioning on him and indirectly got him reveal his reason for pulling me over was bullshit (I was in a sports car and he wanted a ticket to meet a quota). After a few times back and forth. He turned and walked away.
-The second one pulled me over to just be an asshole. I wasn't speeding. He was yelling, red faced. Apparently had a bad day and was taking it out on me. I looked at him calmly as he lost his shit. When he was done I said 'Is there anything else I can help you with sir?'. He also turned around and walked away.

Cop threatens to "Break your f*king face" for taking his pic

Dude has issues. It looks like they let him off easy with a two day suspension and some sensitivity training: http://www.wivb.com/dpp/news/buffalo/NFTA-cop-caught-cursing-at-camer
aman
(I wonder who submitted this video?)

Wait? Two days of no pay is easy? (Or in other words, if he works 12 hour shifts like most cops, it cost him about 600 bucks...) Not to mention the humiliation he faces. And, now, if he acts up, there is information on his record to bust his balls.

In the public sector, or at home, you would have absolutely nothing done to you. Is that being let off east? Of course it is.

Now, if he would have broke the man's fingers, that's different. But he had a bad day and said stupid shit. Haven't we all at one time? Of course, in my defense, I also feel that teens shouldn't be arrested for simple fist fighting--even though it's actual physical violence. I also don't believe in the death penalty. I think we as a society are out for blood.

What would you recommend? Jail time? Most people on the sift would say, "Yes. Definitely."

William Shatner Doesn't Like To Be Corrected

MilkmanDan says...

So... On the Bill-O/Bale richter scale, the magnitude of Shat's hissyfit was about a 0.2? Hell, I bet Nimoy's Spock had a bad day resulting in an off-camera "unprofessional moment" amounting to more than that at least once in his tenure on Trek.

Imstell has definitely changed his tone with a more populist article, the silly avatar, wacky pictures in his comments and a more light hearted demeanor.
Either:
a) He is condescending to 'a site full of retards'.
b) He is attempting a more persuasive, less combative style of argument.
c) He had a bad day and wishes to start anew.
d) He is wearing looser fitting undergarments.
None are against the rules.

d) is totally against the rules. You can't talk about politics unless your panties are in a serious twist.

That said, I'm gonna pile on with the shock that imstellar opposes intellectual property law.

How do you reconcile that with your general feelings on property in general?

Do programmers like me have a right to profit from the fruits of our labor?

I have all kinds of moral objections to the way we shoehorn "intellectual property" into our capitalist society, but I'm not quite sure what practical alternatives there are. At least, without losing the ability to earn a living from doing what I do in the process.

Oh, and as for trying to pin this to Obama, it's clumsy politics. I doubt Obama's even heard about this. I doubt Eric Holder was notified about this. This is probably something happening deep in the bowels of the DOJ's bureacracy. To further reverse the spin, the effort is likely being led by conservatives burrowed into career postings by Bush.

The Krugman article is a better weak spot, politically speaking. Republicans, if they were smart, would beat the drum for nationalization/receivership/FDIC-intervention loud and clear. It'd make people like me think that maybe they'd grown up a little bit, and might have some business still being within 100 miles of Washington.

Instead they're doing crap like putting out a non-budget budget.

^Sorry, but I was being sincere as well - I wish nothing but good things for CP - I appreciated his contributions here too.

But doing mass discards because you've had a bad day or someone pissed you off or you are parting with the community is inconsiderate to the rest of the people here it effects.

Fare thee well CP - and come back soon.

Bill O'Reilly on his own meltdown

sadicious says...

Bill, by accepting this position, you are obligated to create drama in the work environment. If this means you have to do some boarder line HR/Legal actions, go right ahead. Just get the job done.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who bothers to watch a video of Bill O'Reilly online, is only doing so to watch his lies, or get a taste of what it is to be in a system of evil. I would of liked it for him to say "Yeah, I remember that. Woah! I had a bad day that day!".

Taking the high road just isn't an option for Bill I guess.

Complete O'Reilly Meltdown

ObsidianStorm says...

Ok, this video is fucking hilarious but I gotta ask, who the hell hasn't had a bad day and thrown a fit over something ridiculously inconsequential?

I know I sure have man, and am I glad there's no goddam video of it to haunt me...

Siftquisition: Quantumushroom (Sift Talk Post)

Bejeebus....

Look, I'm the last person to be defending QM. I think I've made myself clear that he is, in fact, a semi-brain damaged intolerant fascist who repeats GOP talking points over and over again like an autistic 8-yr old.

HOWEVER, wtf is going on here? How hard is this? Any reasonable person realizes this is abuse, or at least no one downvotes all those in a row without realizing there may be complaints.

OBVIOUSLY, he abused his downvotes. Big whoop. Just go in the little database, reverse them, and take away his downvote power. I know it is possible, and probably not that big of a deal. His goal is probably to get banned to vindicate to himself that those bad libherals are fascists.

But as admins, if this is too much trouble, a lot of places would have just banned him. So take your pick admins.

Maybe he had a bad day or was throwing a temper tantrum? Is this different than people that upvote 10 of one persons videos in a row? So you might want to tread lightly, if you are smart you will instead give him a time-out and instead suspend his account for some time period. It seems a waste to have this public flogging just to ban him anyways, you should have just outright banned him (geez, brush up on your Machiavelli)

Cop gone wild- Lying and making threats just part of his job

justinianrex says...

How can anybody be criticizing the kid? While it may be an effective strategy to kiss ass, it is not a legal requirement. "Well, thank you officer for not grinding my face into the pavement and gently resting your boot against my neck".

The kid was entirely within his rights. Good for him. AND THE OFFICER IS A HUGE DICK. period. it's not like the kid was mildy harassed and this was a borderline case like the DWI video. That one is outrageous if you believe in the 4th amendment but the cops didn't do anything too egregious. There's no defending this officer. I'm sure he had a bad day/week/marriage whatever, but he's clearly unfit and improperly trained.
