Zero Punctuation: Red Dead Redemption

This sounds exactly like the kind of game that I hate playing: Shallow repetitive quests, bad story, time consuming. Red Dead is kind of like the anti-Portal.

Bad story? Did you get that from when he said the game was beautifully written? And I'd venture that almost no one who buys a $60 game wants it to last only 5 hours, as portal did. It's definitely not a casual or budget game. As for the MMOish quests, as he mentioned they're all optional.

You're probably right. I'm basing my thoughts more on Yahtzee saying this is just another Niko bellic with a change of setting, and DFT's opinion that the cutscenes are terrible. And by time consuming I mean I don't want to a significant % of my game time traveling and staring at a horse's ass. A game can be 60 hours long or 6 hours long, but if the quality is good then it doesn't matter. I'd rather pay $60 for 6 hours of an amazing game than spend $60 on a boring game with unlimited content. For example, you'd have to pay me money to play through GTA 3, as I consider free roaming shallow content games like that utter garbage.

EVE Online - Dominion fleet battle trailer

xxovercastxx says...

Eve is the closest thing I've ever seen to what I think a MMORPG should be.

If I'm going to play an MMORPG, I want it to be like another life in another reality. The fancy slot-machines that are WOW, LOTRO, GW, WAR, etc do not interest me. Grinding for XP doesn't interest me. Gold farming doesn't interest me. Predetermined plots don't interest me.

Give me a virtual world and let me discover it as I go.

In-game rules and laws should be enforced in-game; If I go on a killing spree, I expect in-game law enforcement (preferably made up of other players) to hunt me down, not to find my account suspended the next day.

I expect deaths to be rare but permanent.

I expect the game mechanics to be kept secret; Numbers don't float off of real people when hit.

I expect to be able to affect the environment directly: Cutting down trees; building houses, weapons, tools; damming rivers; mining raw materials.

I expect the developers to be scripting/triggering new events to make the world feel alive: Have a volcano erupt or a river flood. Start a forest fire that threatens homes. Drop off a van-load of Jehovah's Witnesses in my village.

I expect the players to be left to govern themselves in whatever way they determine is best.

I expect the players to be free from developer-imposed responsibilities. If I want to spend all my game time painting buildings pink, the game ought to let me do that (to whatever extent the other players tolerate it). I shouldn't be forced into any role by the programming.

Star Trek - Angry Video Game Nerd Looks At Past ST Games

I agree - eliminate the acting and review more games...!!!
The reviews are spot-on. I used to have the game for sega genisis. After 30 hours of game time and bordom, I gave up because I never saw the point of what I was supposed to be doing.... Not to mention the pages and pages I had to keep on paper to organize what was going on!

Diablo III - gameplay video (witch doctor, barbarian)

Kreegath says...

Pay to play exactly the same old game yet again, now with better graphics and bigger boobs (both male and female, just look at that barbarian)!
How long many hours of game time are they claiming it will take to beat the game? You'll run through the game 3 times in 1/10th of the time and spend the remaining 9/10th's killing Bhaal for loot until you tire of the grind.
Not saying it'll be a bad game, just saying it most likely won't bring anything to the table that the first or second installments haven't already.

And how is this art?
