What channel should I make? (User Poll by Hybrid)

gwiz665 says...

I would have liked all those examples in a *skills, tbh. Sort of the opposite of fail - *win

>> ^Hybrid:

Well I'd take over video games, but I think the owner is still around in some capacity.
I do also like the idea of "skills", but I'm concerned that it would end up getting all sorts of videos that aren't necessarily skills... for example...
Flukey, half court basketball shots.
Kevin Costner explaining his oil from water extraction system.
A skateboarder performing a one-off trick etc.
A gamer throwing performing an amazing 5 person grenade kill in Modern Warfare 2.
etc.

.and the award for realistic gunplay in a motion picture....

funny how a single scene can contain some of the best, and worst, in cinematic gunplay, eh?

because some of the physics, and tactics, are actually quite a bit more genuine than the hollywood norm. where arnold finds cover behind hedgerows...

the most glaring problem here being the one schmawy points out.

and i'd second what dproc said, as well.

with one very minor edit, i suppose:
... but it was not purely by the effect of the slug.

because yeah, lots of little factors. if the shooter were prone (for instance) then of course that which might otherwise knock you off your feet, in firing, wouldn't.

and if the target were in mid-pirouette or something (to use an obvious, unlikely, worst-case scenario of being off-balance) then sure, a shot to your center of gravity is going to cause significant lateral movement.

and yeah, at 4:30, he gets both barrels, center mass, at a range of 10 feet. now, that's all kinds of ugly and he damn sure ain't stayin' put. but slamming him into a building another ten feet away is laying it on a 'lil thick.

Why Haven't You Seen "Mr. Brooks" Yet? (Cinema Talk Post)

MaxWilder says...

I get it if you have a problem with the acting, but I really don't care about the actor's lives or personality off-screen. Cruise is a grade A certified whackjob, but he never fails to entertain, and I dig almost every movie he's ever made. Pitt is almost as consistent, but Costner is hit or miss. I don't generally watch dark movies like Mr. Brooks, but I may give it a try.

Why Haven't You Seen "Mr. Brooks" Yet? (Cinema Talk Post)

Deano says...

The problem is the film stars Kevin Costner. I have enough trouble stomaching Hollywood films as it is. And he's not the only one, I avoid anything with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. That's personal prejudice for you but tell me I'm wrong about Cruise

Good review though, I might catch it once it's on the telly.

Regarding the "controversy" over whether this is legitimate or not: The obvious response video which I'm not talented enough to make is a loop cut between a slow-motion shot of the three seconds following impact and Kevin Costner in J.F.K.: "Back...and to the left..."

Anyway, one issue is that muzzle velocity is -almost- completely irrelevant, since it's impossible to know how much kinetic energy the round would bleed off by striking the target. (This assumes it was the round itself which came back - a reasonable assumption, given the whistle presumably resulting from a fin-shaped chunk of flattened lead.) One -could- potentially use muzzle velocity to dispute the veracity of the video based on the time between muzzle flash and *ping*, but I suspect that given the speed of sound one would find that the interval is consistent with a reasonable target distance and muzzle velocity.
A critical piece of more easily estimated evidence is the amount of time the object takes to traverse the distance between the ground puff and the headphones. One could possibly work backward from this velocity to determine whether or not timing of the event is reasonable.

3000 Miles to Graceland - Casino Robbery and Shootout

raven says...

yeah it was ridiculous, but so awesome all the same... although on the whole, I think the film would have been better if the ENTIRE thing was like this ten minutes... no peripheral characters (courtney cox), no subplots, just 90 min of ADD-edited battle royale between good elvis (russell) and bad elvis (costner).
