Why Haven't You Seen "Mr. Brooks" Yet?

Mr. Brooks was released on DVD a few weeks ago and from what I can tell most people have missed out on it. I say "missed out" because it is an extraordinary film that any fan of a well-crafted film must watch.

Kevin Costner plays Man of the Year, talented serial killer, and successful family/business-man Earl Brooks who has a little voice in his head personified in the form of William Hurt. Demi Moore is the wealthy detective whose only passion is the pursuit of killers. Needless to say, it's a rather dark tale of a man being emotionally torn between his inner craving for murder and every other bit of him that struggles to avoid ever returning down that road.

Years have passed since Mr. Brooks, also known as The Thumbprint Killer, last quenched his blood thirst, but now he's being honored as Man of the Year and his evil convinces him to reward himself with two more souls. But this time, for the first time, he makes a mistake. Is it an accident or is he really that dedicated to somehow stopping himself?

This is a very interesting study of many types of person and a fascinating, however darkly disturbing, view into the mind of a serial killer. We saw this surprising, intelligent thriller twice while in theatrical release and again since we purchased the DVD. I recommend you stop wasting time. Sit down with a big bowl of popcorn and enjoy.
