How Does Kodak Make Film? (Kodak Factory Tour)

BSR says...

Excellent video!

Have had much experience with Kodak films. B/W film of which I had much time in the darkroom processing the film and then making prints. I also had the chance to work with an Award winning Press Photographer.

One question I had for him was, how does he process his film to get such clear, sharp negatives? My prints would sometimes look grainy or flat. His answer was just 5 words that made me feel like an idiot.

"I just follow the instructions" he said without being insulting.

He told me that Kodak spends millions of dollars to come up with the processing instructions so, "why should I do anything different?"

That's when it hit me. I'm processing film, not mixing drinks.

Florsheim - One Of The Most Expensive Restorations

eric3579 says...

From yt comment thread..

I'm the owner of these shoes and wanted to add to the overwhelming positive response to the video and restoration. First tho, thank you Steve for dedicating yourself to your craft and being able to make this service available for folks like us. Steve knows my history on these but thought i would share some bits of it as a testament to his skills.

I bought these shoes new in the mid 90's after graduating from college being told from a friend's dad at the time that these would last a career, 25 years later, Steve completed the first resole of them. Ive worn these shoes initially every day to work and eventually reducing the wear to only special occasions knowing that Florsheim didnt make the shoe nor no longer refurbished the V-cleat soles. These shoes have seen every significant event in my career from first days of every new job, job interviews, friends weddings, my own, important meetings, anything that was important these shoes have witnessed it. ive tried to keep the best care of them only hand polishing them myself and having used shoe trees its entire life. i love the finish which is unique to this shoe and can only be had with decades of hand-polishing.

ive kept an eye out for someone that could restore the soles in the way the originals were made for the last 10 years and just recently stumbled across one of Steve's videos and the one that showed his award winning restoration of these shell cordovans down to the nail. from there i watched most of his videos almost like an interview to ensure i was comfortable with letting these shoes be worked on as they are only original from the factory once. we talked over every tiny detail and some months later...here they are. i honestly didnt think i would find anyone that could restore these to original condition.

thank you again Steve...incredible job...and it really didn't matter to me how much it would have cost to restore these. they are priceless....including all the near falls ive had with those nails on slick floors ! i wouldn't have it any other way.

Male Novelist Jokes

oritteropo says...

I think the in joke there is that they all know that most book reviews don't take female novelists seriously, and that there are some male novelists who get a free pass from reviewers who really don't deserve it.

Only wilful disregard can hide the need to publish more women - http://gu.com/p/4hepd/stw

So what she's doing is parodying some of the award-winning loved by (male) reviewers authors who aren't nearly as well received by the (at least 50% female) reading audience and who claim that the public just don't know quality when they see it.

If the gender imbalance is ever resolved, the jokes would still work just without the "male" but with "award winning" attached instead.

I had a hard time trying to describe this. My initial thought was to suggest she just got dumped, but I don't want to be sexist.

Either way I laughed a lot simply because of the stereotype she paints.

Mouse Outwits Cat...Or Does He?

StukaFox says...

Dude, after that, the mouse HELLA blazed that spliff and the cat got a total contact high -- just like in the 1946 Academy Award winning short, "Tom and Jerry meet Da Chronic" in which Jerry, voiced by Tom Waits, finds Tom's sack of dank and bogarts the lot. It's a great cartoon -- teaches kids the importance of puff-puff-pass and not to ever trust anthropomorphic mice with your weed.

Any other questions?

THROW BACK TO THE 90'S

Back to Eden Documentary

shang says...

Good documentary but holy hell too much preaching...

But sad thing is the lessons on creating the garden are pure gold if you ignore the bible verses and such.

I've used wood chip cover and have also never had to water or fertilize the garden or rotate drops. If you copycat how nature works with covered ground then you can mimic nature in your garden and never have to water or fertilize it.

The proselytizing is a bit over the top, leave that out and this could have been award winning

Horrible Job Interview

Orz says...

While I like Sagemind's explanation; perhaps mine was influenced by the purpose of what the maker of the film quotes as the reason for creating their videos in the first place.

The FlipSide
Our narrative series in which characters struggle with life's questions in both a comical and heartfelt way. Written and directed by award winning filmmaker Ben Shelton of SheltonFilms (recently of the web series "The Daly Show").

I purposefully left all of this information out of my original post of this video so that people could view it and walk away with their own opinions on what they "saw". And I eventually got to quote SeaQuest DSV; so it's all good.

i know it may not seem like it, but there is actually, usually, some distance between trains. More than enough for her not to have been hit.
That being said, I would've shat my pants

Usually yes.. Back 1999 new year, we were on a backbag trip thru eastern europe, filming the whole thing to 8mm and with one of the new award winning Finnish document producer on the camera, he leaned over the window, started doing a slow pan shot and once he got it and started to climb back in, a powerpole swush past his head, it was literally just 1 or 2cm... we check the situation and they were really going only 15cm from the train.. This was in Poland, Warsaw-Bialystok line (i think, could've been in Lithuania too)... No doubt they have increased margins since.. We almost lost a great talent.
