QI - Beatles Album Covers

Sagemind says...

Oh yes, it's VERY clear, that's what they were trying to do

>> ^thinker247:

If you arrange the letters of both NUJV and HELP into alphabetical order you have JNUV and EHLP. If you convert them to their ordinal rank, you have 10,14,21,22 and 5,8,12,16. If you subtract the numbers of the second set from the numbers of the first set you have 5,6,9,6. Transform that back into letters and you spell EFIF. Spelled backward, that is fife, which is the Old English word for five. It's plain to see that the Beatles were mentioning their manager (and so-called fifth Beatle), Brian Epstein.

Sesame Street Pulls Controversial Katy Perry Duet with Elmo

peggedbea says...

as a raging feminist and a mother,.... i gotta disagree.

my kids grew out of the sesame street days years ago, and now are mortified of viewing or duplicating anything remotely attached to sesame street.

are little girls over sexualized in/by pop culture? yes
is it because they saw a pop stars cleavage on sesame street one time when they were 2? probably not.

do i think the same sample of parents will let their little girls idolize vapid, packaged, subtly sexualized and marketed teenage pop stars later in their lives? yes.
and let their little boys form a skewed idea of women and sexuality built around pop culture iconography and too much internet porn? yes.

Your point is my point exactly! Our culture is constantly filled with scantily clad females.
As soon as you change the channel you'll find a girl in a bikini is selling you some crap.
So in our hypersexualized marketing culture it's not a cop out to suggest that we promote modest behavior and select role models for young kids who practice modesty.
By obstinately defending Perry's right to show the top of her tits..
You're all missing the point completely.
And essentially condoning someone like Kesha teaching 3 to 7 yr olds their numbers and alphabet by rewording her song about binge drinking and causal drunk sex.
Some of these kids are going to become attached to these shitty artists.
Worship their albums and outfits and success and likely associate being half naked with success and popularity.
They don't even have to be told that. They just see the behavior and emulate it.
My point is. If you show kids racy glamorous popstars they'll aspire to that.
Maybe if you showed a female scientist or olympic athlete or district court judge more female youth would aspire to those things.
...Am i seriously the only windbag on videosift that hold this point of view?

"'Downfall' Hitler Parodies" Yanked by YouTube (Parody Talk Post)

maatc says...

@dag:

Hmm. I mentioned before that these downfall parodies are not nearly as funny for people who speak german.
And thats not a content issue, it is just hard to tune out and pretend you can´t understand what he is really saying. It´s like once you can read an alphabet, it is impossible to not read something that is written before your eyes.

MARK WAHLBERG HAS THREE NIPPLES!

See? It doesn´t work!
It´s the same when you watch these parodies even though you try really hard to focus on just the subtitles.

That doesn´t mean I don´t see the humour in these, though. I can totally see how this is hilarious for non german speakers. Some of them are quite well done and I have even posted some here on the sift.

I also don´t think it is disrespectful of the film or the scene. Actually I think it is quite the opposite! People turning this into a meme that shows the essence of hitlers nuttyness is really an applause to Bruno Ganzs brilliant performance in this film.
Also Hitlers outrageous and globally known character is just begging for parody, so I think it only figures they chose this tantrum scene.

And on the takedown request: I think its just a bunch of corporate pricks who act like kids saying "this is mine!". (btw: It could also be that these are just being deleted alongside other Constantin clips. Might not have been a specific request for the Downfall clips!)
Apparently director Oliver Hirschbiegel did not mind them and even thinks they are funny.

I remember another example by the way, where the boys from The Chasers war on Everything put subtitles under a Osama bin Laden video. I think those were quite brilliant!

Well it's a great title to stir up contraversy.>> ^marinara:

hey its a great title, just maybe not for this video. hehe
and i wish his name pronunciation would either be all "ch" or all "j". keep illegal foreigners outta our alphabet or we will always be sorry. I remember this one time i was ambushed by swedish vowels and the umlaut thing pulled a gun on me.

Clean Up The Channels (Election Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

Tiered Channels or some sort of restructuring so it's sorted by "content" instead of alphabetically, perhaps with boxed with the meta-subjects on them.

For instance meta-subject: "music" would contain music, livemusic, jazz etc.

Some would fall out, but that's what misc is for. Just to get some order in the channels.
