Arrow Sign Spinners Spinning Arrow Signs

spawnflagger says...

I guess the "sarcasm" checkbox was ineffective... Yes I think it's a neat idea, and I'm sure when these guys are "deployed" out in public, there would be plenty of time to actually read the sign.

I wonder how well they handle a windy day? Or maybe they only do indoor advertising in malls/etc.

>> ^dannym3141:

>> ^spawnflagger:
wow, they are so talented. I wish there was some way to contact them... like a billboard with a phone number that you can actually read.

This was an exhibition, being able to twirl a sign like a magician every 5 seconds compared to a signpost or a bloke holding a sign? Imagine if you were waiting for your wife shopping, or sat in a traffic jam or something. It's a really great way to stand out i think. I know you ticked sarcasm, mainly wanted a stepping stone to praise the idea!

Neil deGrasse Tyson on Gingrich's Moon Colony

Fletch says...

>> ^Tman:
I'm not sure I follow deGrasse Tyson's logic. So we need to build a moon base to spark interest in science and engineering because we are falling behind the rest of the world in these areas. What is sparking interest in science and engineering in the rest of the world? Are they all planning on building a moon base?
No, they aren't. I think we are falling behind for other reasons (e.g., a broken education system) and incurring massive debt for grandiose manned space exploration projects will not help the issue.
I love the idea of space exploration, but it is something a rich government should undertake. Our's is broke.

He did say "for me...", although I would disagree that it's a primary reason for doing so instead of just a really positive side-effect. Personally, I think the reasons for returning to the moon and beyond are greater than most of us can assimilate given the immensity of world problems nowadays. But, there will always be world problems. Why wait?

I read somewhere that we could have financed two (or more) manned missions to Mars with the money we spent in Iraq. In the long-term future of humans (assuming we survive long enough to become truly space-faring), which do you think would have greater benefitted our species? Which will history regard as an important stepping stone in human advancement/evolution? Getting Saddam and destroying the infrastructure of an entire country, not to mention the tens of thousands of lives lost, or, the cooperation of nations in getting to Mars.

Space exploration doesn't have to be just an idea, and it shouldn't be.

Cafferty File: Obama on deepening national financial crisis

Your link is pointless.
Each person in the world practices Capitalism each and every day. So why do you dog it so much?

Your link is about the various causes of homeless.
The lack of Affordable housing is not the fault of capitalism. Capitalism does not raise costs but reduces costs through competition. Government rules and regulations add costs. Go blame them.

Another on that list is "Government policy - Child support enforcement keeping drivers licenses from citizens and other civil rights violations." Once again Government messing with people from enjoying their freedom which costs them more money. Go fight the government, not Capitalism.

Lastly another item on you list is low wages. Low wage is not meant to live on but a stepping stone as one advances in their career. The only people who live on low wages are those who decided not to pay attention in school and got left behind. That's their fault. If they really want a better wage then they will make the necessary adjustments and turn themselves around towards the part of prosperity.

Granted some are born with low IQ or such and would not ever be much more than a burger flipper. That is sad and the local community should be the helping hand in times of need, not Government.

President Obama's Statement on Osama bin Laden's Death

blankfist says...

>> ^NetRunner:

To pimp my other video, there's a giant flash-mob party happening outside the White House:
http://politics.videosift.com/video/Crowd-Celebr
ates-bin-Laden-s-Death-in-front-of-White-House
I may be okay with bin Laden being dead, but I'm a lot less comfortable with the big raucus cheering crowd. A man was killed, we shouldn't be celebrating like that.
Still, it's a huge catharsis for the American people. Osama bin Laden has been an uncomfortable reminder of the limits of American power. How could we be the greatest, best country if we couldn't even catch one man living in a cave?
It's been gnawing at us for the last decade. And now he's dead. Not of old age, not without us knowing it for sure, but clearly, definitively.
Soon, we'll have the grisly pictures of Osama's corpse on the front pages of our newspapers. All the indignity of his head on a pike, without seeming quite as barbaric.
People's minds will change because of this. I don't know if they'll finally stand up and demand that we declare victory, and bring our wars to a close. I don't know if people will finally relax, and stop their paranoia about terrorism, or at least let it go.
I just hope it doesn't renew our appetite for war...that really would be tragic.

Haven't watched your video yet, but I've watched some of the gathering outside the White House. They're screaming "USA! USA! USA!", which reminded me of the kind of jingoistic behavior the Dems condemned from the Repubs. I'm not saying those are Dems out there. I'm sure it's a mix.

It's scary behavior, because it's emotional and passionate. I'd personally like to see us shift back to a country based on reason not emotion. A country of law not vengeance. What bothers me most is this could very well be another stepping stone toward accepting fascism.

Stewart Lee on Harry Potter

Trancecoach says...

same is true of the Tolkien series.

After reading the Hobbit at age 10, I felt ready to read Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and after that, well, why not Melville?

>> ^Sagemind:

Not great comedy - but there is a point in there - Harry Potter is just that - a stepping stone to greater literature. Sure Harry Potter books introduced kids who never picked up a book before into the world of literature. (But) How many people people stepped down from a world of literature to read Harry Potter?
There are So many great books out there and kids everywhere just keep re-reading the same Harry Potter books or Twilight books and are stunted from ever moving on. My daughter has read the HP books a few times and the Twilight books perhaps 5-6 times each.
Move on already..., My daughter just finished reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy now so I'm hoping to get her moving on to other stuff - Many never will read another book series ...

Kevin O'Leary schooled regarding Canada metered internet

Porksandwich says...

While service providers, especially cable, satellite, cell..whether it be voice/data/text/whatever, are posting profits in the billion or more range they do not need to increase their rates. This "it will only affect a small portion of the customers, the heaviest users" argument is great until it doesn't or their definition of "heavy user" changes....or more people become "heavy users" because their definition of "heavy" is 5 years old and everything increases in quality/size/consumption. Everything except their networks seems to increase in size and capability, which is an odd thing.

As long as they post those profits and don't build out their networks to offer faster, cheaper, better services, they should be regulated even more heavily. Because there is some sort of collusion going on where all the big guys seem to agree that it's in their best interests to not expand but meter their existing services and raise their rates consistently.....to presumably pay for "network improvements" you never see.

And this is ignoring past facts of these guys taking millions and billions of dollars from the tax payers to improve their infrastructure and never doing so, pocketing the money. And now they "can't keep up with the demand" and need more money on top of those previously huge profits to deal with the increased load. But they never say it'll be used to actually make it possible for them to handle the increased load....it's more of a stepping stone to make it so they can continue to use the same old lines, with a much smaller workforce (cheaper!), and make more money.

This is akin to someone having an old wood cabin from the early 1900s, outhouse and all...never updated just maintained as is. And charging you rent equivalent to a up to code modern house might be. And you might say move if you're not happy!....except when you go to look for another place to live..everyone seems to be offering old wood cabins with lower introductory rates but after the first 6 months it's just as expensive to live there. And the modern places are now for "business clients" and corporate/government entities.

Regulate them, require % of profits to be put into replacing the network with better infrastructure, guarantee outages and problems are addressed within 24 hours, resolved within 48 unless extreme conditions apply, rate hikes are fixed and must be justified (if it's increased inflation, make it actually be the rate of inflation, not just some made up amount to increase profits), unbundle offerings (I don't watch many of the channels they bundle...if I don't watch any of the channels they buy in a bundle then don't make me pay for that bundle. If there's one channel I like in a bundle, then let me choose whether or not I buy that particular bundle or not.)

And if they don't want to be regulated, make it possible for people to actually compete against them. The way it's setup now is just ripe for them to rape their customer base. They won't be forced to change until their network is so bad people get more speed out of alternatives.

Sarah Palin - U.S. Law should be Bible, 10 Commandments

blankfist says...

@NetRunner. Meh. I think good people are falling for Palin's 'real America' rhetoric. She doesn't believe what she's saying, that's what I think. I see Republicans like her being a stepping stone to US fascism. No hyperbole intended. I also see a great number of Dems leading us down that path, as well, so don't be too quick to upvote my comment.

But, I do think those are good people listening to her banter. I don't think they're anti-poor. I can safely say a good part of those people are poor themselves or at least lower middle class.

Olbermann: Countdown - Political Terrorists

BicycleRepairMan says...

>> ^quantumushroom:
These liberal media elites really do live in a bubble. It's simply not possible for them to believe that anyone thinks differently than they do, to the point they believe "the enemy" must all be paid shills. Were there 10,000 peaceful protesters, the libmedia would seek out the one 'everything = hitler' nut. That same nut can be found at every large political rally on all sides.
Nothing new for biased libmedia. Notice how the people favoring more gun control are always "concerned citizens" while the pro-Second Amemdment folks are "the gun lobby"?
If you think Obamarx Medical Tyranny is going to stop at whatever the hell this new abortion of a bill contains, I'm here to remind you it's just a stepping stone to the taxocrats' real goal of socialized medicine.
If you're a "concerned citizen" for socialized medicine, you'll supposedly get everything you want, except high-quality care and the means to pay for it. If you define success by efficiency and effectiveness, government has a rather crappy track record on just about everything.

The point is that what these people are protesting IS NOT EVEN REAL. You see, if if liberals had come out en-masse in 2003 to protest Bush's "plan to bomb and invade Florida", and actively disrupting any actual debate on the topic of war, you might have had something comparable to the current situation.

The current pack of protesters have gotten all the facts lies that causes their anger from Glenn Beck, Palin, O'Reilly and Limbaugh. People that simply cant be trusted because they LIE ALL THE TIME. They quote actual bills out of context, they flat out invent "facts" about it, and they compact it into ridiculous little slogans like "death panel" to tick of people who they know will never bother to read the whole thing. Then they incite people to go ballistic over these "issues", that arent really issues at all because THEY ARE NOT BASED ON ANYTHING REAL, just on lies.

It's not about people not having the right to protest, of course they do, its about lying to people so that they'll protest things that don't exist, thereby suppressing the ACTUAL debate, the ACTUAL issues, and the ACTUAL bills. You see, I think most liberals would love to hear what other people think about these issues, I think they'd love to work with people to improve upon it, to make it the best possible reform for everyone, or even to have others explain why there shouldn't be a reform at all. But instead the tactic seems to be to deafen and dumb down the debate as much as humanly possible, and that really just is political bullying, not debate or free speech.

Maddow: Healthcare Bill Intmidation Taking Dangerous Turn

quantumushroom says...

Liberals aren't nazis, they're commies, and Obamacare is an indefensible, unworkable scheme. In case you're unsure, it's also a stepping stone to full-blown socialized medicine.

The thieves and liars pushing this garbage refuse to explain how it will be funded (let me guess, just tax everyone at a 60% rate) and are unconcerned. They just want more power over the individual when they have far too much already.

Americans put up with enough government thievery from all sides. Because the deceivers refuse to teach American history, it will be amusing to us and terrifying for them as more and more average Americans discover their revolutionary roots.

Why Christians Fight To Stay Alive

heathen says...

>> ^kronosposeidon:
Among other things, death involves permanent loss of consciousness, and it's just hard for me to wrap my puny human brain around the concept that my awareness will stop one day.

I find it easier to think that I wasn't conscious or aware prior to my birth (or my conception, depending when awareness begins) and that I'll return to a similar state upon death. Alternatively, I'm also not conscious during the periods of sleep when I'm not dreaming.

I agree it's still too large a concept for me to fully comprehend, but these are like stepping stones on the way there, for me.
