Rise of Electro (International) from Amazing Spider-Man 2

artician says...

The Superman 1978 film was an enigma, for being a superhero film that didn't absolutely suck.
Then there were the Burton Batman films, which had something special to them that made us feel comic films weren't horribly cheesy.
Then there was a break for a decade of suck, before the first X-men film found that missing link between fantasy and humanity that audiences could relate with on a realistic level. It was bolstered by the first Spiderman, and then the Iron Man film really cemented the legitimacy of comic-based films from there.
That's not even mentioning the Dark Knight films.
But has anyone noticed that gradual slide into mediocrity/laughability in the last few years/sequels? Everything since then has lost that human element that could make us relate to the protagonists and suspend our disbelief, and for me it's felt that everything in this genre has slid backwards to that immature and unrealistic setting.
Meh.

Confronting Strangers with Personal Information - Experiment

chingalera says...

Here's one for the sift: Because I sent an email from an address I had used as an alias on this site to my ex-wife's mother trying to track down my ex and children who, in violation of divorce decree, left the state without notifying me....
My ex-mother-in-law (crazy, paranoid academic) lied and said she felt threatened by my inquiry, made some shit up in a police report in King County, Washington and slapped me with a restraining order. For a fucking email, in which I neither threatened them or anyone they knew.

I am arrested for something completely unrelated 5 years later, charged with threatening the lives of policemen (fucking rant about how small their dicks were and their mommy-issues form the back of the cop car) the State of Texas is charging me with felony obstruction, and some intern in the DA's office preparing for the state's case, goes online, finds my alias and LOW AND BEHOLD-The state has in their hands my dossier from Videosift from every time the user had typed ANYTHING derogatory concerning police in general.

Big brother is up your ass and you people without balls and more common sense than myself....ain't got a fucking clue.

Thanks again Lucky, for eliminating those comments on said behalf, even though they have the hard-copy, which, I am told by my atty., would be of no effect either way to peruse
.-Freedom of speech is utter fucking bullshit in the United States of Now-Thanks to all the ineffectual pseudo-intellectual ass-sniffers who thinks republicans or democrats are any sort of concern or problem OR that your participation in their government machine can do anything but enslave you further. Play a losing game and you wake up in chains.

I'm kinna with the Dark Knight Joker at this juncture...Surprise me again with some motherfucking "change", eh??
*Freedom in the form of boots stamping on a human face forever, America.

It's commonplace nowadays for Twitter, Facebook, etc. to also report your geographic location (latitude and longitude) along with the post so you can share with "your friends" where you were when you posted. Of course, you can disable sharing your location and also limit who sees your posts altogether, but it's becoming more and more common, especially for younger people, to be so unconcerned about sharing their posts and physical location with the world.

The Dark Knight - Joker's Pencil Trick - Homemade

chingalera says...

This does not show the how-to, which looked like one simply edits the film properly OR, hides it inside the man's skull.
Got one for yas: Watch the scene in Dark Knight when the mayor winces BEFORE the fake now hanging Batman (fat Brian) hits his office window. Poor edit.

Star Trek Into Darkness - International Trailer

1. Overuse of CGI - check
2. Pandering to the teenage demographic - check
3. Heavy-handed presentation dripping with dread, seriousness and desperation - check

And now it's leeched out into everyone else's films. Iron Man 3, the new Superman movie, the latest Dark Knight movie.

Roddenberry must be spinning in his space canister. Can't wait for the next reboot - maybe someone will be smart and return Star Trek to its roots - the exploration of space.

Everything Wrong With The Dark Knight In 4 Minutes Or Less

Half in the Bag: Django Unchained and 2012 Re-cap

Deano says...

My vote for best film I saw this year was Dredd. Proof you can make an engaging, exciting action film which makes sense and has a strong protagonist without it being three hours long.

In the year I decided to return to the cinema I rarely saw anything that was really exciting or elevating. But I was surprised how dull and bloated some of the blockbusters turned out. Prometheus followed by Dark Knight were my main disappointments.

I saw some older films. Salt with Angelina Jolie was surprisingly fun. The Proposition with Guy Pearce is an outstanding Aussie Western which does bring me back to Django - it probably isn't as funny but I'll bet it's more powerful. It even survives having Ray Winstone.

Study Dispels Concealed Carry Firearm Fantasies

Oh Fletch... fully agree that you can never predict what's going to happen, or how you're going to respond in a stressful situation. I'm glad you don't carry a gun, as you apparently haven't mastered the complex operation of a dictionary - dubious simply means that I found elements of the video open to doubt about whether the deck was stacked towards the good guy or the bad guy(s). There... did I use small enough words for you this time? I can only hope that you know what the word 'dictionary' means. Merry Christmas, Backwoods Batman (dark knight? Are you sure your mom wants you sending this kind of e-mail from her basement?)

I haven't handled a pistol since 1983 in boot camp. All I need to do in Oregon to get a CCW is watch a video online, take an online test, pay to download the certificate, and take the certificate to the Sheriff's office for my permit. I wouldn't want me carrying a gun in public, but I could if I wanted to, with virtually no experience or training. Now, guns are not my thing. I don't want one. I'm relatively sane, but if I wasn't, if the world was cruel and oppressive and needed a dark knight, getting a CCW would be just as easy.

This video shows simply and clearly that things very often don't go as you plan when you find yourself in a very stressful and scary situation, and that the training required to perform spontaneously and correctly in such situations must be ongoing, something the vast, vast majority of CCW's would be unable or unwilling to do. Would they have performed better had the "drill" happened when they were told it would happen? Maybe, but that isn't how things unfold in RL now, is it? Sometimes it's an elementary school classroom full of six and seven year-olds, or with smoke bombs in a movie theater, or outside the food court at a mall, or even, like this video, in a lecture hall at a school.

So drop the paranoid, ulterior-motive bullshit. "Dubious"? You sound like a child.
