"Cathy Don't Go!" 666

bareboards2 says...

I have plenty of progressive friends who would agree with this video 100% if you removed the 666 stuff.

After Black Thursday Night (5000 items sold PER SECOND), I wonder if this video doesn't actually ring true in our consumerist society.

Smarter in Seconds: Behind the Scenes At The White House

chingalera says...

I'd change the cabinet meeting room a bit.
~Replace seats with sensory deprivation chambers
~Replace the cabinet with the IBM Gene/Q "Mira, a 10 peta-flop supercomputer, and name it Woodrow.
~Turn the basketball court into a miniature horse arena tended by a newly-appointed staff of performers from Cirque Du Soleil
The new color motif for the White house would be using the following HTML colors339

666 - Numberphile on the Mark of the Beast

Poor @shinyblurry, methinks you grasp the straws too much. Ask the majority of Americans who America's N°1 enemy was during the Bush years, and you'll get "Bin Laden" or eventually "Osama Bin Laden". Hardly any (if any) would properly name him as "Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden". It's no wonder a first century writer and political activist writing against the person in power would use the name his audience knew.
I can't believe I actually had to spell that out to you (oh wait, yes, I totally can).

I would say you're the one grasping at straws here; is it that you will just believe anything anyone says that agrees with your preconceived notions about the bible? It doesn't say the number of the nickname or title of the beast, it says his name. More importantly, the number 666 will be so identified with the antichrist that you could use it interchangeably with his name and everyone would know who you were referring to. This clearly wasn't the case with Nero. Further, he didn't fulfill the prophecies which would identify him as the antichrist.

shinyblurry! So who was the riddle about? What is the name you think fits best?

It is still a mystery that has yet to be revealed. The antichrist is said to be a world leader who comes about during the end times and will seize power during an economic crisis. He is also said to negotiate a 7 year peace deal with Israel. He will consolidate his power and become the head of a one world government and economy, having authority over every nation and the ability to regulate all commerce. Midway through his rule he will declare himself to be God and cause the entire world to worship him in a one world religion. He will also have a supernatural power to back up his claims.

The major sign we are in those times is the reformation of the nation of Israel. That the Jewish people are back in their homeland after 2000 years is the definitive sign that we are in the last days. An additional sign that this is getting close is when the Jews build the third temple. Right now, they are in the preparation stage, having already built the implements for the temple and also training priests to serve there. There are many other signs..here is a good video describing some of them:

Neros name was Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus.

Bin Laden's name was Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden.

The point being that his full name doesn't add up to 666. Not only that but Neros original name was Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus. So arbitrarily picking out Nero Caeser as his name because it adds up to 666 and saying this is who John is talking about doesn't cut the mustard. This wasn't who John was talking about, because the man of sin has not yet been revealed. It was prophecy for the future, not for Johns present.

TYT - CEOs Make 380x As Much As The Average Worker

Sagemind says...

If I owned stocks in a company that over paid it's CEO by a gross margin like this, I'd be pissed!
Why should I invest in a company that would piss my profit away on the CEO?

Cenk is right, The decision maker is worth more pay. He makes the life or death decisions that affect the company and the jobs of the employees. But don't let it get out of control.

-One-million per year ($83,333/month or $69,444/week) is lots.
-Two-million($166,666/month or $41,666/week), maybe.
-Five-million per year ($416,666/month, $104,166/week), it starts to get out of hand.

-At 55-million per year ($4,583,333/month, 1,145,833/week), it is pure absurdity. That's just robbing and bankrupting.

If a company is making that kind of profit off the backs of it's employees, then it should be setting up better benefits for their employees, profit sharing programs, and re-investing back into the company by creating new products and services (R&D). Those new developments would create new industry, jobs and in turn profit - not to mention returns to the shareholders.

9.999... reasons that 0.999... = 1 -- Vi Hart

Good sift.
Didn't know this, probably due to never having thought about it. Your example points out the mathematical logic quicker and simpler than Vi Hart's vid, which was still enjoyed due to other things i didn't know, the clarity and the pretty pictures.

>> ^messenger:

I'm not going to argue with anyone here about this, but I will add an 10.999.th reason:
1/9 = 0.111...
2/9 = 0.222...
3/9 = 0.333...
4/9 = 0.444...
5/9 = 0.555...
6/9 = 0.666...
7/9 = 0.777...
8/9 = 0.888...
9/9 = 0.999... = 1
If there's a difference between 0.999... and 1, that implies more than 1/9 is added to 0.888... to get 1.

Seems to me the only reason this maths could be argued is 1 of 2 reasons, either the logic isn't understood or people like to argue.

In regards to solving the society problems you mention: wouldn't society stopping work to focus wholly on the latest bandwagon occurrence of 1 of the 7 billion free-thinking subjective experience driven humans having a difference of opinion/preference to 1 of the remaining 7 billion blah blah humans, be more problematic?

Think it's best if the scientists focus on their job of advancing our understanding of everything, the governments do their job of controlling their masses in reasonable ways and sifters do their job of finding great videos.. might need someone to help the cops do their job though, think some of them have missed a point somewhere along the line re 'serve and protect'.

>> ^VoodooV:

do a google search. It's been argued forever. Only thing it proves is how far we'll go to argue ridiculous things and the fucked up priorities of humanity.
we'll argue .999... for forever (or infinitely...zing!) but try and solve things like why kids like Trayvonn Martin still get senselessly shot or try and solve how we can take care all of our citizens regardless of income level. Ehh, we'll get around to it sometime.
It reveals just how truly absurd this shit is.
