Cord Cutters Unite! (User Poll by dag)

ant says...

I am between (closer to no). Ever since I moved last year, I can't get all the local broadcast channels OTA with all types of antenna. My rural nest is blocked by trees, small mountains, giant hills, etc. Basically, it is on the wrong side to get transmitters' feeds compared to my previous nest. So, my family had to get cable.

As for online Netflix, it doesn't have everything like the new episodes, sports, etc. and I don't watch many (movie/film)s (prefer on demand payments to rent). Hulu bugs me with their repeating commercial breaks (even as Plus members!). I hate ad(vertisement)s hence why I block, skip (record!), etc. ~22 minutes out of 30 minute episodes and ~42 minutes out of an hour episodes! That's a lot. Also as a chair (no couch) potato, I watch a lot of stuff including Internet's like on VS (VS is my tube too) and am in control!

Region blockages suck, but we have Internet. There are ways around them if you know how.

Louis C.K. on Nixon's Resignation

ulysses1904 says...

I don't remember Nixon shedding tears or getting choked up during his resignation speech. I was 15 at the time and was watching it with everyone else. I'll have to look for it on YouTube but I remember him being as stone-faced as ever.

Just watched the full 22 minute version on YouTube. Sorry Louis, he didn't weep like an insane person, didn't even pause to clear his throat.

Sorry but this video was posted 22 minutes BEFORE the other one, that one should be labeled the Dupe, not this one and since it is not the exact same video, does it really qualify as a dupe?

The CBC has been sold to a US wrestling promotor!*

guymontage says...

What's all that about, eh?
Lately, it seems that our conservatives are becoming more like american republican senators, which is a shame since there are very few people in Canada an MP with an American republican political stance could accurately represent.

I do agree that the TV shows such as Wild Roses, Little Mosque on the Prairie, Insecurity, Republic of Doyle, Being Erica do not deserve public funding. They aren't worth much at all as far as entertainment goes.

I don't think CBC television should be terminated completely; CBC in the past has brought us Kids in the Hall and helped keep SCTV on the air. This Hour has 22 minutes used to be funny, but that was a long time ago, and not much has come since. More recent canadian comedy successes were not a result of CBC, Corner Gas, for one.
I don't think most Canadians would oppose a budget cut to CBC TV, but definitely would to termination of funding full stop.

And don't touch CBC Radio!!!!

Toronto Mayor Called 911 for THIS!?

Sagemind says...

On October 24, 2011, Ford was confronted at his home by Mary Walsh, a cast member of the satirical show This Hour Has 22 Minutes, in costume as her character Marg Delahunty. Walsh has frequently conducted "ambush" interviews of Canadian politicians as this character, a housewife who dresses in an outfit inspired by Xena: Warrior Princess. Ford called 911 twice, reportedly shouting at the dispatcher "You … bitches! Don't you fucking know? I'm Rob fucking Ford, the mayor of this city!" Ford denied directing "foul and derogatory comments" at the dispatcher but apologized for his use of profanity.[71][72][73] Toronto police Chief Bill Blair released a statement shortly afterwards stating that he had reviewed three emergency calls involving the mayor and that their content had been 'misrepresented'. According to the chief, the word 'bitches' was never used nor did the mayor describe himself as originally claimed.
