Over the past few months I've seen members flag some Yahoo videos as *dead. Let me assure you they are not dead. For example, this Springsteen video is fully functional, as well as this video by A Flock Of Seagulls. My guess is that Yahoo Video finally started region blocking some of their music videos, so if you can't view either or both of them then I'm sure that is the reason why. Yahoo never did this before, but now they apparently are. I wish I could tell you which countries are being blocked by Yahoo (and I'm sure it applies mostly to music videos), but I don't know.

South Park Studios has also started region blocking their videos, at least for Canadians. (I know, how DARE they block Terrance and Phillip. Sorry, but 'Not Without My Anus' will no longer be viewable north of the 49th parallel.) I'm sure this has everything to do with South Park being a Viacom property, and we all know that Viacom is a huge bag of dicks.

I'm not pointing the finger of shame at anyone for erroneously flagging videos as *dead. I've flagged a few videos that I too believed were dead, only to discover that my NoScript extension had blocked the video host. And I have no idea what messages you're seeing when you try to play Yahoo and South Park Studios videos in blocked regions, but I'm assuming they're either misleading or nonexistent. So no one's to blame for this confusion except the video hosts, IMHO.

Going forward I suggest that if you're trying to view either a Yahoo or South Park Studios video and it won't play, just flag it as *blocked. It's been my experience that Yahoo videos rarely go dead, and I've never seen a South Park Studios video go dead. That's not to say there aren't any dead ones right now nor that they won't go dead in the future, but for now I think it's safe to mark both these hosts as *blocked instead of *dead.
