How collectives broke the sift

Don't take this the wrong way, I love this site, and I love the innovations. I realize this site is breaking ground in a new medium and the best pligg site around.

But I think Collectives will end up being more than a growing pain. This site will become a members only, appeal to regulars, and offer no incentive or way for new members to gain traction. Also this site will not be the internets best videos that appeal the masses... But rather a site specializing in horror flicks, puppies, and atheist videos.

I realize you can make the case that the front page already reflects the communities tastes (Family Guy and Colbert), but I think Collectives will artificially promote videos that would not otherwise appear on the front page. Now, I think Collectives are great and allow for cool usage of the infrastructure established here, and will allow a cool, unique feature of this site (ie. come here to find great collections of special interests)

But the fact is that the front page videos are over half collective submissions right now (60-80%). By allowing for groups of collective members, identifying those videos clearly in the queue, and encouraging collective stats... Basically means that 20 collective members can block vote every submission and the front page now is half horror flicks for example.

Is it a problem? I dunno, some people already operated in this manner, only submitting obscure music videos, or some playlist favorite. But now it seems everyone is single focused.
