Russia Today: Iran-Israel face-off on nuclear issue

Stormsinger says...

Honestly, who could blame Iran if they -are- trying to build nukes? Given the US attack on the so-called "Axis of Evil" nations, but only on those nations that did NOT have nukes, how else would you suggest they protect themselves?

I'm not saying I trust them, but I -am- saying if I were in their shoes, I'd be working on becoming a nuclear power.

Frankly, Pakistan seems a much bigger threat to world peace...having nukes -and- spreading that knowledge/ability, but they're our ally, aren't they?

Change? (Info Revolution 2009)

^ Or, possibly Rockefeller was thinking something like this*, i.e. that a world that's tied together with global trade is likely to be more peaceful.

What scares the bejeebus out of libertarians is that it also means they're likely to want other things that come with real-world markets, like a common regulatory environment, central banks, some sort of international court and law enforcement, etc.

* Not that I endorse Bullshit's smears against liberal peace activism, or general unjustified sense of moral superiority, but the central point he's making here is valid.

I Take The Vow - Do You?

Sagemind says...

Interesting how very few people are clicking to view this post. It is also interesting that of the 25 views this has had, no one has voted on it. I'm not asking anyone to enlist in a cause here. This video has merit. I am impressed with Chopra and that he has made a stand.

So very few are willing to make a stand on anything these days. It is a time of "political unrest and political correctness. A world where our leaders won't stand up and say, "this is what I believe" and when they do, everyone fights and bickers as to whether they should be supported.

You have to admire Chopra, even if you don't agree with his views on spirituality. You don't have to take a vow, you don't have to pick up a banner and run with it. but at least he is working to his fullest to bring peace to the hearts of all that will follow. So very many of us sit back and say "but what can I do?" & "Who will listen?"

Well here it is, one man standing for what he believes in and inviting people one step at a time to join him in standing up for what is right. Yes, peace is the right thing. but it only works if "Everyone" does it. It's unlikely he will bring about any sort of world peace, but he stood up and that's to be commended!

...My opinion! Cheers!

Sam Harris - On Calling Out Religion, Death

good point.
--If abortion is only contested on based of "value of life" in and of itself, and if that is only Theological in origin, then what's the problem with war. If loss of Theology brings a loss of unquestioned value of life, then there's no need to contend against war, is there?

That is you confusing "Life" with "fertilized egg". On secular grounds, abortion is not entirely uncontroversial, but its not black and white either. It has to do with the prevention of suffering and death, not with some silly black and white rule that anything fertilized is "human" from day one. Life is something that grows and develops, its not something that simply appears once an egg has been fertilized. The point is that when Mother Theresa describe abortion as "the biggest threat to world peace" the truth is that she was simply talking out of her ass. The obsession with fertilized eggs are part of the theistic delusional thinking that also thinks "god" cares whether men have sex with other men.

These things are hysterical distractions from real, imminent problems in our society, and the only reason we discuss them, is because one side is delusional about these issues. They've lost track of reality, and fail to make rational judgments in these matters, and spends and waste an enormous amount of time fighting for "family values" and "protecting the unborn" The first of which have no meaning at all and the last of which they are grossly oversimplifying.

Ron Paul: The end of the war is not near - March 4, 2009

Dr. Paul seems to believe everything happens in a vacuum, e.g. world peace awaits if only the US would withdraw all troops and close all US bases around the globe.
Still, a Congress filled with Ron Paul clones would be VASTLY superior to the sh t we have now.

No, that isn't his point at all. The point is we are bearing all the financial and human cost of something that isn't even appreciated by the world at large or our own citizens. When you hear him talk, he never even talks about this being the solution for "world" peace, just our peace. The world is the worlds problem. I still don't know his exact position of foreign affairs. I tend to think a little different than him on some issues. He has a VERY isolationist mentality at times, but as the old adage goes, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. To be a total recluse seems to invite certain disastrous alliances of evil.

That said, I think we can all be in agreement that Dr. Paul isn't a politician in the typical since, he is a person...the last person on capital hill.

The girl who silenced the world for 6 minutes

14760 says...

Atleast someone(a kid)has a cause and she goes all out for it. I believe whatever she said reflect the world we live in today. It is the matter of needs, wants and desires. One's desire is achieved at the expense of others.

What the northern countries have is this western idea of equating success with having fame and fortune. This idea influence people from all over the world to be materialistic. People are obsessed with becoming rich -some choose to achieve it with sheer hardwork while others do it illegally. With money come luxury.Luxury like cars etc are not simply created just like that, plenty of resources are needed to create these stuffs. When there is a lack of resources, developers will look for it and exhaust it elsewhere normally in the Third World countries. The Third World countries cannot develop because their resources have been used up and with what money they gotten from it, is simply not enough to feed millions of their own people. Yes, it is true that the government is responsible for the development of it's own country but the cooperation of other governments matters too. Human actions influence other humans and in effect, their environment.

'Give up your luxury'..simply means live with what you have and do not ask for more. For when you desire more, you deprive others of their needs.

why dose it matter what something is in law who cares what you call it genoside ,killing ,murder all are just words to describe people losing life through the acts of other people.

who cares if its legal ore not as an example its legal for me to join army and kill asama bin ladan that however dosent some how make it right ore good to deprive sumone of life,

in anny case there are manny ocasoins where lore is unethical due to it having to be a burcatical system so it can often be a pore benchmark for ethics.

in this scanaroi both sides have eliments of blame there are allso alot of people who are inosent and are bing afected by this war when realy thay dont deserv it.

my stand piont at the moment however is that israil are in the most comfortable/safer positoin with more resources mony and global political backing so it should be israil making more of an effort to acomidate hamass and the palastinean people. rather than dispropotoinalty bombing the crap out of evrything.

its like how after sept 11th if usa had evaluated its foghen policy and maby apreached things diplmaticly thay would have had alot of sympthay evan from more extreem people than usual which would have given them more leverage that thay would nto have normaly had, usa could have esealy contributaed to world peace but instead thay bombed the shit out of people pushing ther selfish global agenda.
