Keanu Reeves Gun Practice
For me, it's remarkably difficult to consistently hit something the size of a serving platter at 15 feet over iron sights in a moving/standing stance with a pistol. Even more so as you switch weapons and their sight pictures (which I learned is the way the different back and front sights on a weapon should line up to hit something at various distances from the shooter).
I agree; I feel this is much harder than it looks at first glance.
John Wick was a remarkable different movie.
He's good when he goes dark.
Guy's got skills. I did a little bit of pistol-only (just called "Practical Shooting") but they discontinued it at the local indoor range. It was sad because it was pretty popular. It's real tough to stay at all accurate while you're moving.
Maybe it's obvious but it differs significantly from "target shooting" in that you just have to hit the target. No bonus points for hitting the bullseye (there is no bullseye). Penalty time for missing or taking an extra shot.

Neo sucks now.
I still need to see John Wick!
Keanu Reeves Gun Practice
Me and my friends found this before it was sifted.
John Wick II indeed.
John Wick II baby!

Honest Kids Say The Darndest Things

Wicked "Hello, Dolly" T-Shirt though.
Someone translate, what did the little girl say at :45 and what did someone shout down the stairs at 1:03, besides shut up
Best worst metal video ever (American Movie anyone?)
This is the BEST (doom) metal video ever produced. Fourth wall breaking and sinister! My favorite era of Candlemass.
The lyrics of the song are played out in the music video and go beyond the fourth wall into the sinister rhythm of metal music itself -- head banging and dancing in place are the effects of an entranced metalhead now "Dancing and singing to my fiddle".
Brilliant song. Brilliant video -- especially in October. *horrorshow
All hail the Messiah Marcolin!

Can't you see the devil in me
Just take a look in my eyes
I will play for you this wicked melody
It's magic will reach for your soul
It burns inside, no place to hide
This strange tune possesses your mind
It comes over you and the nightmare is true
You'll enter the realm of the dark
You are bewitched
You are bewitched
Bewitched, be delight, you'll reach the night
Dancing and singing to my fiddle
So take my hand, and understand
That no one will see you again
You are bewitched
You are bewitched
I am the master of the enchanted tune
I'll play for your joy, for your soul, for you doom
My fingers they dance upon the strings like fire
Weaving a spell of my burning desire
Sing with me, meet your destiny
Set yourself free to the magic
So come with me, my kingdom to see
Believe me you're captured my friend
You are bewitched
You are bewitched
You are bewitched
You are bewitched
Kevlar chainsaw chaps seem like a good idea
These two guys need to hook-up with the sunfish guys a few weeks ago for a new show. That would be wicked awesome!
How a Retractable Ballpoint Pen Works
"I" think they handled this material excellently, however pedantic. Myself, I am in the process of compiling such research for a Vlogcast of my own which resides in a similar vein, to be called "Wicked Lost Technology". I plan to look at inventions that were once cutting edge, yet today are all but forgotten. These item still offer great inspiration for us today from a mechanical perspective and should not be forgotten.
The thoroughness of the Engineeringguy in this video should not be overlooked. He/they get(s) my applaud!
Smoking vs Vaping
The examples you provide aren't particularly accurate.
The formaldehyde results in the study you're talking about have been misrepresented often. The study actually only showed higher formaldehyde when the vaporizer was run dry, meaning the coil wasn't vaporizing liquid but burning the liquid, wick and coil. Nobody would ever inhale that because it would taste horrible. The actual conclusion of the study showed fewer harmful chemicals in ecigarette vapor than cigarette smoke.
As far as teens using ecigarettes at a higher rate, the only available studies show teenage smoking rates dropping by about the same amount as the adoption of ecigarettes. There's no evidence of a net increase in nicotine use among teenagers. Instead, some teens that would have smoked are using ecigarettes.
Rock music is corrupting kids, comic books are teaching children bad morals, pinball leads to juvenile delinquency, video games make kids violent and ecigarettes are turning teens into addicts. Great headlines, zero facts.
...some brands have been shown to release more formaldehyde and other dangerous carcinogens at significantly higher rates than a regular cigarette.
I see more teens than ever smoking e-cigs who wouldn't have otherwise smoked cigarettes... Those are teens that wouldn't have been addicted to smoking otherwise and now are, even if that addiction is less severe.
John Wick: "I heard you struck my son..."
hehehe.... the guy's reaction when he realized what his punk ass kid did to John Wick, priceless.
Mochi-Making Machine
That's pretty wicked cool.
I had no idea it was made out of plain old cooked rice. Really neat.
I also like the handmade method where 3 guys hammer it round robin where each hammer just narrowly misses the previous one.
The problem with actions movies today
Fury was laughable. It tried too hard, so it looked like a pathetic propaganda movie from exactly those times.
John Wick however was really well made. It felt like a good 80s or 90s action flick.

John Wick
I can't recall the last action movie i enjoyed and/or was willing to pay to see.

Honestly, when it comes to action I just go by what strikes me as cinematically interesting, and what I enjoy. There tends to be a lot of action and other genre stuff among my favourite films, mostly because I try not to draw any distinctions between so-called "serious" films, and genre stuff like action/horror/sci-fi. If a film works, it works. It takes just as much thought and craft to make a really good action film as it does to make a really good drama. More, possibly.
My problem with a lot of contemporary big blockbuster action filmmaking is the idea that bigger is ALWAYS better. Bigger effects, bigger explosions, and longer, more drawn out action set-pieces. Like, if I see one more film where the third act is entirely devoted to an enormous action set-piece where a city is rocked by a big, over-the-top battle, I'm going to jump out a window.
My other big problem with most contemporary action is the style of shooting/editing that dictates that you put the camera as close to the action as possible and then just ping pong from one split-second close-up of something happening to another. There's no real coherence, just a jumble of imagery and the hope that the viewer will be fooled into thinking they're watching something exciting.
I appreciate films like the Raid 2 or John Wick because they're clearly made by people who understand what makes a good action scene exciting. They're well paced, exciting, and they're just fun to watch.
I was going to comment on your inclusion of a lot of action movies. Your clarification to bareboards is helpful. Do you draw distinctions around what is believable in action movies? I've found myself get a bit jaded over the years with how everything has to be bigger and now with 17% more explosions. A good example is how the James Bond movies have evolved. Part of it was how technology evolved in the movie industry. I think that the old Bond movies that included high tech gadgets were so much cooler and the newer ones became unrealistic. I appreciated the reboot of that series because they went back to the old ways, but it seems that they are already going down the bigger and bigger road again.
