Media Calls Baghdadi AUSTERE SCHOLAR?

newtboy says...

Asinine whining.

As was written in the obituary being referenced, he was once an austere religious scholar. The quickly changed headline was a cut and paste mistake, which was immediately replaced with "extremist leader". Get over it idiot snowflakes. No matter what the WaPo does, these morons will twist it to try to make it seem negative.

Now, @bobknight33, please explain why Trump notified the Russians ahead of the operation but ignored his lawful obligation to notify Congress. The answer is obvious, he believes he works for Putin/ the Russians and not America. His moronic excuse, that congress would have leaked it so he couldn't tell them, is not only just dumb, it's wrong and illegal, and doesn't make a whit of sense since he did tell our enemies-Russia and Syria. If congress had leaked anything about the secret operation before it was declassified, he could and would have insisted the DOJ prosecute them for releasing top secret info....and exposing top secret information is something Trump has done repeatedly, once directly telling Russian ambassadors top secret information that did irreparable harm to ongoing intelligence gathering against Daesh, then declassifying it after the fact.

Which mistake makes zero difference, and which is an intentional attack against American law, our government, and the constitution?

Jim Says Christian Leaders Will Be Murdered If Trump Loses

cloudballoon says...

"The world would be a better place without religion..."

Maybe. Probably not. We just can't will it into non-existence regardless. My hypothetical concern is, say we do get rid of all religion (by what? Burn all the books? Put them all in an Island? Killing them all once and for all? I'd LOVE to know your methods... but hey, off topic), then what? Human by nature will believe and follow in something/someone... Chinese followed their religion-banning dear leader MZD to their deaths by the millions. Germans got played into Nazis by a charismatic madman that resulted in WWII... my point is, we can't let any harmful idealism fall into the hands of charismatic leaders that cause real harm and be silent. Star Wars (and its mortal religious rival Trekkies) is a registered, legit religion to some but mostly for fun and harmless. Trumpism is arguably a religion itself in America now, and alt-right ideals are spreading all over the world from its aftermath that's 100% harmful IMO.

Religion as a practice can do immense good & evil in equal measure. We should all do our part in not letting people in power weaponize religion.

"Its the biggest sham in human history. " IMO, it's people in (religious/political) power that twists religion into a sham. And continues to. I blame these people, not the religion. Don't let these douchebags have their way!

A lot of people (majority even) fails to put the words of these religious books into historical context. Civilizations and cultures
evolve. Societal practices and knowledge of the physical world too. Look into the intent and context, then it'll do good. Twist religion into self-serving gavel of judgement (to others, NEVER to oneself!) then nothing good will come of it.

"Just goes to show how stupid the sheeple are."

Thing is, people get into (and out of ) religion for all kinds of reasons. Calling them all sheeple and stupid isn't doing anyone good service, merely shows your narrow view of religion (and stereotyping people of faith) more than anything, no? It's as wrong as a priest calling atheists must be lacking of a moral compass.

I'm with you in your disdain for mindlessness.

Are there sheeple? OF COURSE. Are blind followers stupid? Yes to a degree. But IMO these sheeple are stupid not because they're into a faith, but follow the words and commands blindly of their faith leaders without thinking of the intentions and lacking a firm grasp of reality and consequences.

We need to eliminate sheeple mentality, religious absolutism and self-righteousness that disrespect others, that thinks one is better than others because of following a religion.

I'm fine calling out the ridiculous among them, I do so in my church. Just don't call and treat everyone a sheeple. Besides, sheeple is not exclusive to religion, there are Apple sheeple, celebrity sheeple, political sheeple. Do we treat all of these people as sheeple with disdain?

But man... it's extremely disheartening to see the state of religion in the USA. I can see why some people are so against it there. I seriously can't feel defensive about it if I'm a US citizen, because watching videos like these do make sensible people wanting to punch that guy. But how can people NOT see through the idiocy and out right ban/disown that shit? That's the most concerning to me of American Christianity.

The 7 Biggest Failures of Trumponomics

Drachen_Jager says...

They used to have poll tests. They were very effective at disenfranchising minority voters. I'm sure Trump and all the other racists in the GOP would LOVE to bring something like that back, especially since they're experts at twisting things like that to their own ends.

Yeah, it's probably a good idea, but it's really hard to stop people from twisting it to their own agenda, which is why it's illegal in the US.

Now, what I'm all for is balancing the vote to better represent population, so voters in the midwest don't have 10x the voting power of someone in Manhattan. And while we're at it, can we get some balance between generations? There's no way an average 80-90 year-old is as competent to decide the future direction of a country as an average 30-40 year-old, and the younger person has an eye on the future.

newtboy said:

Instead of a poll tax, we need a poll test. If you cannot explain checks and balances, no vote for you.
If you can't understand that a huge deficit increases the debt, no vote for you.
If you can't grasp the fact that corporate welfare is socialism, no vote for you.
Republicans would get less than 5% of the vote under this plan.

Sagemind says...

There is a complete disconnect with people who view Politicians like they view religion. This is a scary phenomena.

I'm starting to see the strange and twisted reality of these people. I don't understand it, but I see it. They vote against their own interests as they worship. Completely blinded.

If they want to vote for a party, sure, do so with informed minds, but I don't think they even understand. They vote blindly for their representatives, like they vote for their deities.

... And that's a chilling thought.

I just watched it. It was OK. Very slow. However, the second episode was much better based on the classic and its movie one in an updated version with a twist.

Good question, BSR.

I wasn't a Christian until I'm in my 30's. But throughout my 20's, I occasionally get asked if I'm a Christian whenever I was just being nice/helping people. So after a dozen times getting asked that, I went to a church event from a Christian friend and got involved. I only wanted to get baptized after I read the whole Bible cover-to-cover.

I really don't get attached to the church much, although I do go every Sunday & have fellowship 3, 4 times a month. Not getting attached in the sense that knowing church is like any organization with lots of people - it's natural their hearts & minds tends to go to the daily running of the church (Getting more people into church, donations vs expenses, etc.) and communal/social side of things more than the spiritual-growth side.

I'm more of a "Jesus Follower" type of Christian I guess? not impressed with organized religion, but I just agree and put myself into practicing what Jesus preach to people, his simple commandments: Love God & my neighbors. Looking at Jesus as a humanitarian philosopher perspective, I can't believe He doesn't want us to make this Earth a better place. He's all about understanding, accepting and instill love & respect into everyone...

It's crazy to see people using and twisting religion to turn this world into - pardon my French - merde... how is this what Jesus wants? There are way too many people who just want the benefit (getting into heaven? bragging right? think Christianity is superior than others?) without the effort... these we call the "free-gift (read: cheap-fakes) gospel" that really have zero value and zero contribution to the betterment of the world.

You said it right. Jesus placed the world on his shoulder, if I call myself a Christian and I don't carry the cross as He does... I'm just lying to myself and to the world.

Still got the world on your shoulders I see.

Why did you decide to be Christian?

Anthony Jeselnik: Thoughts and Prayers

cloudballoon says...

To elaborate, it's more like "I hate the feeling stirring inside me (frustration, exacerbation, etc) whenever I hear those people offering thoughts and prayers"... but hey... my fault for not being clear.

You're right thought, we just shouldn't be hateful towards fellow beings. But I think there's legit room to hate evil deeds.

But man...I don't know... I live in Canada and I just feel Christians as a group is vastly different from what I see in the US. I can't stand those loud "Evangelicals" in bed with Trump and the Republican. What Christian values that those Republicans stand up for that's enough for US Evangelicals to be kept silenced or down-right condone of all the non-Christians deeds they're doing to this world or the USA? Cynically, if I'm forced to vote for the "lesser of two evils" then it's the Dems any day. Things in the USA is so twisted, it is a circus horror show.

BSR said:

I always thought making donations and/or if you can give your time. Many people already do.

As a Christian it's not in your best interest to hate. I know it makes the job harder but... rules are rules if want to play the game.

Pancreatic Cancer Patient Hassled at Hospital Over Marijuana

newtboy says...

Anger/hatred is only step one, maybe even a precursor to step one, which is devising and taking action to oppose the wrongs that pissed you off. You're making assumptions again....what did Mptions do to deserve being made an ass of? ;-)

The roads to hell (and by your theory, back out) are infinite, and usually paved with good intentions (but poor premeditation and/or ongoing examination).

The abuse I speak of was the illegal search and the aggressive, disruptive, stress-causing intrusion into his private room, and he had no choice in that. He also had no choice but to waste his time with them. He could have made it easier and more pleasant for them by letting them violate him silently, but he chose not to capitulate without resistance....what little he had to offer. I support that wholeheartedly.

Trust doesn't expose truth, it hides it, obfuscated it, twists it, colors it.....Trust is antithetical to finding "truth", and today is a terrible idea as more than half of all circulating information is not trustworthy by far. (""Truth" is an idea in the mind of a crazy person, you don't need to know the "truth" to not lie."-my father.
.....what I really mean here is "fact" Not "truth".)

Only truly blind infatuation fits that model, I love with eyes open. If you love someone blindly you really love a concept of them you created, not the real person. I think love is much stronger and real when you love the whole person, scars and blemishes included, not some idealized version without the normal human flaws. It leads to far less disappointment.

BSR said:

The only reason you hate bullies and liars is because you believe you have no other options. That makes you a hater and no different than that which you hate.

Anger is only hate if that's what you want it to be. You have a choice of what to do with the energy that anger creates. You make it destructive or productive.

Nothing is better than love. It leads straight to hell. It will be the ONLY thing to get you out.

He subjected himself to the abuse. He could have just said, knock yourself out fellows. Just close the door behind you. But instead he chose to waste his short remaining time on the clowns.

Are you still looking for the ugly truth? How do you expect to find it if you don't make yourself vulnerable? If you don't trust?

If you love someone or someone loves you, all your defenses have already been penetrated. Pretty slick, eh?

EDIT:

I hope you're writing all this down. There are a lot people that need help. That's where your talent comes in.

Kids Cover Puppy in Glue For Fun - And An Amazing Transforma

Esoog says...

From the YT Description:
Pascal, a stray puppy from Turkey, was at the wrong place at the wrong time, when two twisted children started torturing the helpless dog.

He was only four months old when a rescue team found him in an industrial building and brought Pascal to He’Art of Rescue organization in Istanbul, Turkey. The kids did a lot of terrible things to the poor dog, and even covered the fellow in industrial glue.

The glue acted like cement and Pascal was so stiff he could basically move only his tongue. The staff at the facility shaved off the glue, along with twigs and mud that was stuck to Pascals fur. His skin was raw, pulsing with red wounds. It suffered significant damage from the chemicals, so the pup had to undergo a series of medical baths to recover.

People aren't dying by the millions from worrying about risk factors. But they are dying from preventable forms of heart-disease and cancer. This is no joke.
