Dutch Businessman Constructs FullScale Replica of Noah's Ark

spoco2 says...

The title is misleading. Bu saying 'scale replica' it makes it sound like it's not full size, but rather partial scale.

Saying 'full size' would make more sense.

And for god's sake video maker TURN DOWN THE BACKGROUND MUSIC!

I'm glad some religious nutters actually built a full scale ark, because it can show precisely why this would NEVER work. Just TRY to put two of every animal on earth into that thing and have them live... go on, try.

It's really not very big now is it? And they really think that all of the types of animals on earth are going to live in there for over a month.

Good luck with that.

It STUNS me that even when faced with this sort of reality, seeing the thing from their story built and thinking about it with any sort of critical thinking, that they could then go 'Yeah, that'd work'.

Stunning.

Christian Bakery Denies Service to Gay Couple

shinyblurry says...

I think you should have actually read about what happened before you commented.

This is what the owner said:

""If gays come in and want to order birthday cakes or any cakes for any occasion, graduations, or whatever, I have no prejudice against that whatsoever," Phillips told CBS. "It's just the wedding cake, not the people, not their lifestyle."

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/cake-bakery-blasted-refusal-gay-couple-wedding-cake-article-1.1125737#ixzz22M2FLkbs

So yes, my argument does have merit. They also came in an announced that they were gay and told him what the cake was for:

"My first comment was, 'We're getting married"

I'm sure the reason for this was that they already knew they were going to get turned down:

"This is not the first time Phillips has refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple. He insists, however, that his stance is not anti-gay."

The gay community in that town already knew about it, and sent someone in to get refused so they could create a story for the media with the hype and drama that has surrounded it, and generate sympathy for their cause.

>> ^JiggaJonson:

@UsesProzac You'll never get through to someone who honestly believes "it's not that he refused to make them a cake because they were gay, he refused to make a gay wedding cake," has any merit as an argument.
To really get somewhere in an argument with someone like this, you need to re-frame the problem into a more basic philosophical question after agree'd upon facts have been established.
Why do he refused service? <<< a rel="nofollow" good place to start apparently. @shinyblurry seems to think it's because of the event that the cake was being used for, so let's continue on that basis.
The next question would be: Does the baker have the right to demand to know what events his cakes are being used for? I mean, if I had some kind of cake-fetish should I be required to disclose it to the baker "Yes, I'm totally gonna stick this cake up my own ass."
^this seems like a more appropriate place for the two of you to continue your discussion in some constructive way.

Four Second Pit Stop

oritteropo says...

They have to refuel in the garage before the start of the race, and then carry enough fuel for the whole race.

Since the weight of the fuel carries a time penalty, nobody actually carries enough fuel to finish the race flat out, they always have to spend at least some time saving fuel (lifting off the throttle early on corners, turning down the engine etc.).

When the Virgin team first joined, they discovered that they hadn't designed their car with a big enough fuel tank, so just getting to the end with the engine turned down was a major challenge for them until they introduced a redesigned car.

How do they refuel if they don't....refuel?

Sorry but there aren't any white people left in Texas not anymore. White is now the minority in Texas yet Hispanics and African Americans still get all the minority benefits here. This is a little off topic but it's also the sad and honest truth. I can't even get food stamps here in Texas because I'm white, it doesn't matter that I was hurt and can't work for the next 6 months, I'm the wrong skin color to receive any help from the Texas government. Yet I know plenty of Hispanic friends of mine that have never been turned down once for help even though they all own homes and drives low riders with gold rims. They still qualify for $1000 a month in food stamps. Even when I brought them proof of my injury and my old tax returns showing I've been working steady till the accident and that I don't have any bank accounts, I don't own a home, or even a car. They only offered to give me $10 a month in food stamps. I was floored I told them they could keep their lousy $10. You can barely buy one meal with that. Fucking ridiculous. Texas couldn't give a flyin fuck about White people. Unless your a rich politician.

Ann Romney: "I Completely Support 90% Of Where Mitt Is"

GenjiKilpatrick says...

@lantern53

Hi, old grumpy dude.

1.)
Do you enjoy social security benefits yet? Medicare mayhaps?

You're a socialist.

[I guarantee you would never turn down a social security check if they suddenly arrived in your mail.]

2.)
Congress and congressional lobbyists have the majority of power over policy.

Big business controls the Congress and the Lobbyist. Therefore, Big Business has the majority of power over government policies that affect our lives. i.e. stagant wages; unstable food, housing, and energy; endless war

The President is just a placeholder.

Obama and Romney are just masks for Oligarchs to hide behind.

It's alright. I heard that far too often in far too many places. It lost it's appeal - if there was any to begin with. Thanks!

I don't get how CK turning down a middle man to publish and promote his product could result in him keeping less money. Was he simply not able to generate enough demand?

It seems like he would make more money and a higher margin per download or ticket this way.

Man, people are gonna hate me for not jumping on the Louis train, but I paid $80 to see him here in Melbourne (which on the current exchange rate is like $481,973 in US dollars). He was great, and it was money well spent, but if he hasn't achieved any financial security from his act yet, I'm not sure it's the industry's fault.

He turned down a shit load of money to make his own show. He has said that the only way he could keep creative control was to turn down the big bucks. He took a much, much lower offer so that he could write, direct, produce, cast, act in, and edit his own show.

If you paid $80 dollars to see him he probably made 50 cents off of it.
That's the industry's fault.
(But, I don't hate you--well, not for this anyway)
