How these penny-pinchers retired in their 30s

DanHas says...

Long time lurker, first time commenter. I just wanted to say newtboy is spot on with my experiences in Humboldt County.

My Wife went to College at Humboldt State and we spent a week there back in May. We rented an Airbnb in Trinidad and it was incredible. Every day we were out on the beach or hiking through the towering redwoods. Not to mention eating insanely fresh food!

Everything was incredibly clean and fresh, from the air and oceans to the forests and rivers.

Don't Get Neil Tyson Started on Water Towers

BSR says...

Someone asked Mayor Ed Koch: (mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989)

"What is your favorite thing to do in Manhattan that you can do nowhere else?"

"Count the water towers within my sight from my terrace."

I don't know why I remember that but, now that I've finally used it here, I can let it go.

C-note says...

The sift is like the Tower of Pisa. Depending on your point of view it may appear to lean Right or left. But pointing out the fact that it leans may get you into a little trouble.

Just enjoy the view.

The CIA doesn't have to do much to make him look crazy. He has, at various points said, there are "Humanoids that are 80 percent gorilla, 80 percent pig," Michelle Obama is actually a man and she murdered Joan Rivers, and my personal favourite, in England, "They had tanks, people with gills, and there were little babies, and they were in there just gulping, clawing at the sides. You see a turtle at the zoo that wants out and you feel for it? They got humanoids crossed with fish and stuff. I mean... we are screwed people, you understand that?"

I mean... fish people? Nevermind the math on the gorilla/pig hybrids, but fish people? He's like the Weekly World News. I honestly feel sorry for anyone who believes that stuff. Poor people like @Sagemind and @bobknight33 a lack of proper education, perhaps parents who didn't keep enough books in the house... poor nutrition? I honestly don't know what deprivations a human mind has to go through to become that incapable of discriminating the obvious lies people like AJ tell.

Will This Trick Your Ears?

RFlagg says...

I didn't hear Smashmouth, and I'm familiar with the song, and I've never heard the jumping transmission line tower. I did however hear the talking piano, and legislators. The Risset Rythem has always been hit or miss for me and generally resets at a point before it gets too fast, but an odd subtle reset if that makes sense.

I do agree that he should have been silent a bit longer when telling us to listen.

These revelations about Iran show Obama got played!

newtboy says...

Well under 18 months in and already 5 times more administration convictions over Trump administration/Russia collusion than there were unfounded charges against the administration under Obama in 8 years. Jesus Bob, can you not get a single fact right?

Let's not ignore the Trump tower meeting with Russian officials where the repeatedly and clearly stated reason for the meeting (after the lies denying it ever happened fell apart) was to collude with Russia against Clinton by getting more Russian supplied dirt against her, or the unending lies and forced corrections the Trump camp has trotted out to deny, obfuscate, downplay, and finally admit but excuse the meeting.

You're also totally wrong about the 13 Russians indicted, those are about interference in the election, and not low level bean counters, they're mostly Putin's inner circle.

Those "boatloads" were gone over for years with fine toothed combs and serious bias and still nothing illegal found, not a whit, and zero evidence of anything nefarious from the FBI or CIA besides the timing of the baseless FBI attack against Clinton's reputation by publicly announcing they were still investigating her (while hiding the far more serious investigation against Trump).

He lied to you about being wiretapped, just like he lied about 3 million illegal alien votes for Clinton, and unlike the illegal hush money he's now finally admitted he paid his mistresses it simply never happened. Remember, he's plead guilty to being a massive fraud, and he's quite proud of his ability to lie and get away with it but you still believe his obvious lies and never investigate yourself anywhere less biased than Faux or Jones.
Sad and willfully gullible.

Nearly 2 years and still ZERO nothing with Trump/Russian collusion. Mueller's indictments of 13 so far are for low level irreverent to Trump or pre Trump issues

However boat loads if nefarious activity between HRC, DNC, CIA,FBI to interfere, monitor, railroad Trump.

So it IS just the Donald making a mess of things (again) for a personal peeve, I was not sure, thanks for confirming.

What next, mass imports of east european women? All US embassies converted to Trump Towers? Do we get a wall (or a war?) somewhere in Europe next? Follow the tweets!

Maybe not, maybe its all just some oil price hike scheme.

Donald Trump isn’t ripping up a treaty; he’s walking away from Barack Obama’s personal pledge.

London in 1927

I found it funny that they mention Americans offering to buy the tower and move it to America, followed immediately with footage of London Bridge, which was bought by Americans and moved to Arizona.

Why Should You Read James Joyce's "Ulysses"

ulysses1904 says...

He definitely put years into it. I first tried reading it cold, with no prep. I read the first 3 pages over and over and gave up, it made no sense. A few years later I read a book about it which was a huge help. Then I found an entire section at the Connecticut College library dedicated to it.

I'm still finding "hidden tracks" in it after reading it and reading about it for 25 years. Like how the first 3 chapters parallel the last 3 chapters. How Bloom's path at a certain point in the city resembles a question mark. The barmaid Sirens, the drunken lout Cyclops character, and all the other Odyssey parallels.

I visited the Martello tower from Chapter one when i went to Dublin, that was so cool to be there. I never did find Nelson's Pillar though. ;-)

I think this may be the book that Joyce said took him a lifetime to write so it would take a reader a lifetime to read (comprehend)

When you miss the exit in Toronto

nanrod says...

And here I came back to give you a scathing reply along the lines of what kind of major city has highway exits 50 miles apart. If you're not familiar with Toronto this the Gardiner Expressway and Rogers Centre where the Bluejays play and the CN Tower are immediately to the left in this view. The next exit is 3k. I didn't pick up that she said 50 miles, she must be American

Five minutes to go 50 miles and back? Just how fast are you suggesting they drive?

edit - actually nevermind. I didn't pick up on her sarcasm the first time I watched.

Why Photos of the Eiffel Tower at Night are Illegal

StukaFox says...

Oddly enough, my phone's wallpaper is a photo I took of the Eiffel Tower lit up at night.

What're they gonna do, arrest me? HA! Hold on, someone playing the accordion and smelling of soft, ripe cheese is at the door . . .
