Bill Nye: You Can’t Ignore Facts Forever

VoodooV says...

Oh no! Internet Tough Guy is angry! watch out everyone!

He's using puns everyone....PUNS!!!!

This is what happens when you have such a small sample size, you have to overcompensate. I bet Lantern53 drives a really fast sports car and revs the engine a lot....to overcompensate for his small sample size.

you mean the 3 out of 97 that don't believe?

good luck with that. Great plan you have there. I'm sure you could go beat up the 97 cuz you're such a tough guy.

so angry...so stupid

Why don't you tell it to the significant number of scientists who don't believe it? Huh? Go ahead, take your best shot.

If they don't all believe it, why should I?

Careful, You wouldn't want to make @lantern53 angry, He knows how to be a tough guy on the internet. He can't make his own arguments, but he knows how to knock over other peoples' sand castles

...like a manly man

Glad you read that to. Yes I am the one using logic and reason.

And thank you for all your posts in this thread, which seem to generate even more responses from logical and reasonable people.

Where does the "gay lisp" come from?

lucky760 says...

Totally agree with @Polymathe, @artician, and @Ickster. This is a horrible video.

And it's simply ridiculous to start it off with the idea that every man has only the two options to either speak 1) with a phony tough guy voice using limited vocabulary or 2) with a lispy feminine voice using a broader vocabulary.

Lioness jumps off a cliff to catch an antelope in mid-air

scheherazade says...

It's worth keeping in mind that when you slaughter an animal for food, the process is often :
a) Hit it in the head
b) While it's dazed hang it by its hind legs
c) Cut its throat, and let it bleed out *alive* (so that the heart pumps out the blood, so the meat doesn't taste like liver.)

During which the animal will come-to, and stare at you, and you can read its expression pretty clearly. As a creature that's only ever been fed by you, and lived seemingly among you, the betrayal is rather stark.
I say this from life experience, not anecdotes read on the interweb.
(I'm not a vegan. However, if I'm not gonna finish my meal, I make sure to at least finish the meat.)

TBH, not enough people are taught about life and death.
If I had my way, every child would have to slaughter at least one animal and eat it (seeing as hundreds will be slaughtered over their life time just to feed them personally - it's a business they're already personally involved in. So they should have the respect to look their food in the face at least once.).

Then they can make an informed decision about their food.
And maybe even about things like war, or careless driving, etc. Seems like everyone is a tough guy, and everything is "all fine, don't worry"... so long as death is just 'something actors pretend with on TV'.

Everyone knows this, but it's different when it's happening right in front of you and taking you completely by surprise. I've seen a lion kill a zebra, right in front of our vehicle as close as these guys are to the action and it's completely different seeing it in the flesh as it is watching it in a video.

You can see the fear in the struggling prey. You can hear it gasping for breath and struggling to cry out. You can feel the power of the lioness. You can see the blood pumping out of the prey into the lion's mouth and running down it's side. Flesh being ripped from the prey while it's still panting its last.

It's a harrowing experience. Whether you know that they eat meat or not, if you're not moved watching this happen just feet from you then there's something wrong with you. It's a wild, exciting, horrible, awesome thing to see. Just because it's completely natural and normal for the lion doesn't mean that someone seeing it for the first time should feel comfortable watching it. It's not a comfortable thing to see.

Watching a cat catch a mouse is one thing, but lions are working on a human scale. It's doing what it could do to you. Seeing it for real is a massive adrenaline rush because your body is well aware that it shouldn't be that close to what's happening, even if your mind can overrule it, you still get the rush.

Anyone going on safari knows that lions eat other animals, it's one of the things people really want to see. When we saw it there was one young lady with us who couldn't watch because it upset her too much, and it's not because she was a wuss, it just really was upsetting to see. Doesn't mean she thought the lion shouldn't be doing it, it's not a moral judgement in the slightest, she just didn't want to watch an animal die like that.

Multi-Facial - A Short Film By Vin Diesel

artician says...

This has to be on here already... Still though, whenever people make fun of Vin Diesel I point them to this film. The guy is far more human and layered than people give him credit for. Not their fault since he does front a lot of stupid films with dumb-fuck tough-guy roles, but I believe he's probably a pretty solid human being in person, and I know I'd get along with him quite well for his deep background of gaming and imagination, at the very least.

Boy Stands up at City Council on Bullying

JustSaying says...

I think the problem is the culture of competition. If you make everything a contest and add to that questionable rolemodels you quickly end up with young people getting awfully good at rationalising such behaviours. Kicking the weak looser is so much easier if you are the popular tough guy with a need to show dominance. Yoiu know, be a man and take what's yours, you can do it!
And let's not forget that his two moms make him automatically a target for quite a lot of kids as well.

Skater punched by kid's mom

Ryjkyj says...

Chi Chi, I don't think you've ever offended me even once. Most of the time, I can't even understand what you're saying.

Look I'm not advocating violence: it's pretty ridiculous that the mom in this vid walks right past her son to confront the guy. I can't imagine doing that but I can imagine going into a fevered blood-rage over someone hitting my kid with a skateboard while he's playing in a park. (I also can't imagine what makes you guys think this is a skate park?)

All I'm saying is that, regardless of the fact that it was an accident, if you hit a toddler playing in a park, it's your fault (speaking of trying to find blame in others). And that, just maybe, getting punched in the face isn't such an incredible reaction to expect in that situation.

What I love are the comments about charging the mom with assault or smacking her back with a skateboard after she just watched you smash her baby's head into the pavement. Yeah, that's definitely the appropriate reaction. Congratulations, you share the sensibilities of every twelve-year-old who commented on Youtube.

I'm willing to bet that the skater brushed it off and thought roughly, "oh good, now we can call it even."

Not so much though with Internet Tough Guys.

Yogi says...

I always wondered why DeNiro was considered such a tough guy. Especially when he's fat and old, the guy is nothing he would be destroyed. Harvey Keitel though...terrifying, I wouldn't care if he was in a wheelchair I would call him "Mr. Keitel, sir" every time while bowing and protecting my junk.
