Stranger Things | Season 2 "Thriller" Trailer

ant says...

Cool LaserDisc game visually and techwise, but boring to me. I played other arcade games like Gauntlet, Pac-Man, TMNT, RoboCop, etc.

On a side note, every week before and after bowling league, i poured a ridiculous amount of money into the arcade game Dragon's Lair.

Why Being Honest about Ghostbusters is Important

Imagoamin says...

I've seen it. It was indeed funny AND entertaining. I enjoyed it about as much as I enjoyed Ghostbusters 2, which was a much lazier rehash of the same premise of the first movie to cash in on the name.

Yet...somehow, people don't remember the second movie that way. But they, having not seen it in a lot of cases, view this movie as an A-Bomb for the movie industry. The most scorn worthy example of remakes ever! Most disliked trailer in youtube history! Yet....somehow, the same fate didn't befall TMNT, Transformers, Robocop, et all.

But we also forget, some of our most beloved genre movies and well liked films were remakes of older movies before our time. The Thing, The Fly, The Departed, True Grit, 12 Monkeys, etc. It's not that it's evil ole hollywood "not having original ideas and scripts", because we have unoriginal ideas and scripts in the hallows of nerd fandom.

Really seems like there is one sort of X-Factor about this particular remake of a previous nerd-centric IP that set it apart from all the others people ignored or fell in love in with....

Watching A Horror Film As A Young Boy

So many references in here. I usually hate that kind of pandering, but still needed to point out:
David statue on coffee table (reference to Goonies?)
NES and Intellivision (c'mon, no one kept the latter around after '84).
R2D2 on coffee table
Stupid, obvious pro-wrestler action figure is stupid (ooooh yeah!)
TMNT comic is possibly anachronistic

This video is so pandering and silly, but the song is damn complex. Childs first feelings of love and sexuality combined with the witnessing of violence and murder. Now that I type that, it probably defines far more modern experiences than I realize.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Trailer #4

AeroMechanical says...

I dunno. I mean, it looks like it's better than the first one because at least it's picking the cartoon version of TMNT and sticking with it, but it still has that Michael Bay 'style' where they tell the CGI team to just go fucking nuts and to hell with composition or editing, shot to shot cohesion and basically realism and believability in general. Put tons of shiny CGI shit on the screen moving around really fast and call it action.

So... the 7-12 year old male demographic will probably like it. I guess that's okay. That's who the cartoon appealed to.

Emma: Master Shredder

artician says...

No TMNT jokes? Really? Come on, folks, "Master Shredder" writes itself!
-- edit --
Hilarious. I'd made the comment before watching the video. I had no idea the name came from there; it was much funnier when I imagined it being coincidental.

No, that one I kept manually undiscarding after evey down-vote.

It wasn't until you PM'd me that I had my new idea. : )

(That other one was the TMNT trailer, btw.)

But I recall one post going to negative 75 or something a while back. Did you rig that one too?

ChaosEngine says...

Goddamnit, this is actually worse than the TMNT trailer.

And what the fuck is Neal McDonogh doing in this? He was in Band of Brothers, FFS. He must now go do penance for the rest of his life for participating in this atrocity.

Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer

Thumper says...

Anyone remember the commercial that was on the VHS for the original TMNT. This song verse may jog your memory... "Suddenly everyone's looking at me, my mind could be wondering what could it be, they point to the sky and I look up above, and a baseball falls into my glove". I watched that damn movie so much as a kid I can remember the freaking horrible commercials lyrics years after...

Two Legged Boxer Puppy's First Trip to The Beach

newtboy says...

Never before have I found something both so cute and so creepy at the same time. He's like a super happy escapee from the world of Half Life, or a biological Mouser (from TMNT). LOVE IT!

I was definitely on board with this awesome-sounding fake TMNT trailer. Now I have to link it to my friends anyway, but for vastly different reasons...
