Trump Transforms for the General Election: A Closer Look

Januari says...

Its an American television show intended almost entirely for American consumption. You yourself acknowledged you don't know very much about him. It is clearly not intended to introduce him as a candidate to someone who was previously unaware of him, it is after all a comedy sketch.

Trump has a notorious and long history of having an extremely thin skin and reversing his position multiple times. He actively and very publicly campaigned on some of the issues in that video, and now onto the general, realizes they make him (hopefully) un-electable.

The clip is meant to highlight the comical policy shifts and pandering, not introduce him to people who arn't familiar with him.

Could be lots of things that they left out of the clip that support their argument. I don't doubt there is. I'm just saying they're goofs for choosing those clips to portray him. If someone looks at those clips, and doesn't know the backstory, it looks like shoddy. At best it looks poorly done, and at worse it looks deceptive.

Ghost in the Shell VFX Behind-the-Scenes

Mordhaus says...

One view emphasizes events occurring during and after the Allied occupation of Japan (1945–1952), and stresses that manga was strongly shaped by United States cultural influences, including US comics brought to Japan by the GIs and by images and themes from US television, film, and cartoons (especially Disney).

There are two schools of thought on this theory; the link you provided is from someone who believes in the other school of thought, which is fine, but it is not the end all definition. Additionally, I never said the characters weren't Asian in the manga or anime, I said jokingly that they are drawn with western characteristics like the rounder Occidental eyes.

Clearly the original character is meant to be Japanese, and the studio certainly could replace a known actress with lots of draw power with a lesser known actress, but realistically this is meant to make money. Just like "All you need is kill" was redone and cast with money making actors as Edge of Tomorrow. In the end, the studio is selling a product and is going to want to make the most money possible, so casting will almost always go to an actor that pulls a fan base.

@newtboy I wasn't attempting to say that the character was meant to be western, I was merely joking about the art style. Sorry for any confusion I may have put forth.

Uh no, anime characters are not "drawn to look more like westerners"

I think this article explains it well:

I don't think they could really present the original storyline in a cinematic format. The comic worked because they were able to employ the ENTIRE Marvel universe, and reference years and years of superhero / supervillain interactions. With a drastically more limited cast and history the story simply wouldn't feel right. They're still using the general concept of the story it appears, but in a significantly more limited context.

I think my only complaint will be that they're not pulling the television characters into CW, but perhaps (hopefully!) they're saving the full-cast spectacle for Infinity War.

I would say this is pretty much on the button, though. This way clearly isn't working, but the people who have money and power have convinced the majority that nothing can change and even if we could we would be worse off.

I don't think i'm being melodramatic or conspiracy theorising either. Rupert Murdoch and the Barclay brothers tell people what to think and they think it. Democracy has been subverted by money in most western countries with corporate lobbyists willing to spend billions to get a politician on-side, "anti-lobbying" legislation that actually attacks grassroots and activists from broadcasting the truth at election time (and leaves lobbying untouched), and unfair campaign spending/fund-raising that leaves the rich with all the advantage.

The media in Britain have consistently presented a skewed and incorrect representation of the left-wing party leader. It is clearly a campaign by vested interests to stop a man who would bring their reign to an end. The language that they use and the metric by which they judge "their" guy is COMPLETELY different to how they judge the "other" guy.

What's worse is, fairness and balance in the media has deteriorated to such a point that it is now absolutely fine for all this to happen.

As Lawdeedaw said, we are already a long way up shit creek and we didn't even pack the paddle. Some people are getting very rich and are very comfortable, they have immense power and they will say anything to convince you that it's best that it stays that way. Including lying and using manipulative language and statistics in their national publications and television stations. And all you as an individual really has to do is vote someone into power that cannot be corrupted. You've got Bernie, we've got Jeremy.

"Too rich to be corrupted" is farcical though - let's only trust rich people then. Not only does this suggest that rich people are more trustworthy just by dint of having lots of money, but that poor people are less trustworthy because the greedy little paupers can't restrain themselves from 'upping their station'? I would rather judge someone on who i perceive their character to be than based on what is in their bank account, but i guess i'm fucked up like that.

I didn't know anyone made this movie. Now I'll have to find it somewhere.
I also didn't know Riddick was really just an attention whore. Across for attention, lengthwise for results.
