That's good feedback. I'm not sure how to begin to fix them. I know what you mean about the onerous method of fixing channel assignments - but it is functional - barely. I'll tee up a Sift Talk post for this, we should make this a community discussion.

>> ^eric3579:

FYI I personally think the channels are so broken they serve very little purpose. A large number of sifters will use all or most of the allotted channel slots for each and every video(like it's a contest). many sifters don't know what the channels actual represent, and base the choices solely on it's name. They are way to broad to be useful. There may be one or two channels that actually are cared for by their creators. The way we delete and then add channels now, on any given post, is absolutely ridiculous. I personally have never fixed one due to the amount of work it takes( nochannel then all the ones that apply). Anyway, yeah i see channels as the most broke ass thing on the sift. I think it should be torn down and built back up anew. How, I'm not sure, but I think it would be a great sift talk post. I never have mentioned any of this before because I assume it's almost to big a problem to fix. That was a bit of rambling.

Yes, in the annals of history it will be truly recorded that we are now living in the post Wilhelm era.
There are some major issues with a grand channel restructure. I'd be curious to know what beefs people have with the current structure (besides Wilhelm of course).

Sure go nuts.
We need a grand restructring of our channels, but that's not new, so in the mean time, go right ahead.

I second this, especially the grand restructuring of channels thing.
In this post-wilhelm era, I don't see how we could reasonably deny anyone anything.

Dead Squirrel, Little Girl and a Video Camera

Mekanikal says...

What does killing her dog and seeing a video of yourself playing with a dead squirrel like a stuffed animal have to do with each other? That wasn't someones pet squirrel and she didn't kill it.

>> ^schlub:

And I'd pay to see that little girl's reaction when someone kills her dog and goes "Tee-hee-hee, a dead dog! tee-hee!". Yeah, hysterical.
>> ^Mekanikal:
I would pay to see that little girls reaction when they show her this footage in 10 years.

Do you have children? Do you know how very young this girl is?

She doesn't know what "death" is -- it is a word.

What I see is a little girl who her WHOLE LIFE has wanted to play with a fluffy tailed squirrel, but could never get close to one. Now she finally got her hands on one -- SHE LOVES THIS SQUIRREL. She loves its fluffy tail and its soft fur.

This is innocent joy you are seeing.

She'll find out about death soon enough. Sorrow is for later.

Enjoy the joy, my friend.

Fuck yeah! 200 years of kicking Libyan ass! We're on a roll! We can't roll over for those Barbary pirates now!>> ^Ariane:
The first US bombardment of Libya actually happened in 1804 under President Jefferson, during the Battle of Derne. Of course we didn't bomb from planes, we bombed from ships.

I was rather ignorant on the conditions of the Barbary war. Some nice wiki material on it:

""Jefferson sent a small force to the area to protect American ships and citizens against potential aggression, but insisted that he was 'unauthorized by the Constitution, without the sanction of Congress, to go beyond the line of defense.'"

Tee hee.

I sincerely hope we are the laughing stock of our grandchildren's generation ..

Pft. We're more likely to be a laughing stock of future generations because the previous generations insane response to nuclear power generation, that effectively set back fusion power by 50 years.
