When I think of Oliva Newton-John, i think of...

Grease was far too mainstream for my taste….Xanadu, her much less popular musical film about opening a roller disco with the help of her guardian angel, is how I remember her. Here’s the title track with her and Electric Light Orchestra.

Btw @bobknight33 …. It’s obvious to those of us with brains that the rehash of the Hunter Biden nonsense is a blatant attempted red herring meant to distract from good economic news, because Cons absolutely HATE any good economic news during a Biden presidency…and we have increased GDP, massive increases in jobs (jobs, jobs, jobs….remember?), over a trillion in infrastructure to facilitate an economic recovery, increased wages, dropping fuel prices, and lots more the Cons want to ignore and deny….and you’re so ridiculous you think attacking the non political son of a politician means something besides exemplifying your kindergarten level mindset.
That’s why you posted this twice in a week…you need this distraction out there because gas prices plummeted.

Wrong is wrong, and this is wrong, you know it’s wrong, and you take great joy in it. Such a sad, grasping, ethically bankrupt fool you let Trump make you into….and you want more!

Hey, I got an idea…how about we investigate Trumps kids, who were top level unelected officials in our government after Trump installed them in top positions even though they couldn’t qualify for clearance, some because of drugs (Don Jr’s coke addiction for instance, helps him ignore the taste of Newsom’s huge cock in his girl’s mouth). How about we check their bank accounts, not just the American accounts that increased $640 million for Jared and Ivanka while working in the White House, but including their secret Chinese accounts the Chinese government uses to bribe them, and Saudi accounts the crown prince used to bribe Jared to the tune of TWO FUCKING BILLION DOLLARS, the secret Russian accounts Putin used to influence American policy, and their tens of millions in no show contracts with foreign governments that every watchdog in both countries has said clearly are bribes, the companies involved don’t meet minimum standards to even operate, much less actually do business.
You want to look at children? Start with those that were installed into high positions in government and took hundreds of millions with them when they left despite being unemployable drug fiends and morons…despite being directly involved in a failed coup against America, otherwise known as treason. You can ignore Tiffany, she wasn’t part of any administration…and forget Hunter, he isn’t either.

Such sad, weak, just pathetic attempts at meaningless distraction. Every accusation you make is an admission. Grow up, baby.

🤦‍♂️

Trump Wanted Armed Groups At His Jan 6 Rally

newtboy says...

Incorrect, as pointed out above. Some second hand accounts of tantrums, and many first hand accounts of criminal activity like knowingly inviting heavily armed thugs into his crowd to prepare for his planned attack of the capitol building and saying Pence deserved to be lynched so Chump wouldn’t make a statement telling his people to stop as his thugs actively hunted the Vice President in the halls of Congress. She witnessed those first hand. I know, you’re just repeating what some liar told you, and you have no first hand knowledge of her or anyone’s actual testimony because you aren’t allowed to watch the hearings….so your arguing over your own second and third hand accounts filtered through biased liars.

Note, the secret service was so in Trump’s camp that Pence refused to get in a car with them because he believed they would murder him or deliver him to the murderous crowd….the one allegedly denying it, Ornato, still works for Trump today (and hasn’t actually denied it, there are just reports claiming he WOULD….and Ornato has been accused of lying for Trump repeatedly including personally telling the blatant lie that Lafayette square wasn’t violently cleared for a Trump photo op at a nearby church….

Get his denial under oath then try again.
Edit: today the story from Trump’s team became “Trump was too fat and out of shape to lunge for the steering wheel.”, which if true made him too fat and out of shape to reach out <3ft, which makes him far too fat, feeble, and near death to be president.

Keep your head up your ass if you wish. You’ll find yourself alone in there.
Why not call them to testify? Because that bit, while salacious, is hardly the main point or even a crime that might be prosecuted, so why waste time on red herrings. I know you wish they would focus on his infantile tantrums, they distract from his treasonous terrorism.

This woman worked 10 ft from Chump. She was a personal assistant for his chief of staff, you would expect her to be about as loyal as they come to be in that high position with direct access to the president ….and his behavior was so intolerable and anti Democratic she tanked her career and personal life to expose it. Do you have any reason why she would lie? There are many reasons why she wouldn’t have testified, including the death threats against her if she did. She’s clearly from team Trump, not an anti or never trumper.

Fools like me, and around 70% of everyone else….everyone not in the cult with full blinders on, and even some who are. Your little world is crumbling, your great leader exposed for the petulant child and treasonous terrorist leader he is, publicly. Fox is running away, republicans are running away, independents are flying away at supersonic speeds.

You would know about drinking bath water. How does Trump’s ass crack taste?

Edit: You know this is the Trump methodology….
1) deny you did “it”
2) equivocate, claim “they do “it””
3) still deny, but insist it would be fine if you had done “it”
4) admit you did “it” just a little
5) revel in the fact that you can now admit you did the evil inexcusable thing and more without your base caring

Even the agents involved denied this ever occurred. Why weren't they called to "testify"

New Rule: Make America Grind Again

newtboy says...

He is, but he is clear that he thinks Islam is the worst, most violent misogynistic and intolerant. I say that’s equally true of all religions at different times.

While I do like that he can see when his team goes off the deep end, where that line lies has steadily moved to the right as he aged. I’ve been watching him since before he had a tv show. I live in CA, and I don’t have the issues he complains most about….of course I don’t live in the most expensive, most regulated county in CA like he does. He complained for years about getting permits for his solar system and blamed the liberal government, I got my permits in one day with no issue at all.

My biggest peeve is that, even though he’s been a professional comedian for over 40 years, he still doesn’t understand that a groan/clap is approval for a joke in bad taste or particularly pointed. It bugs the shit out of me when he gets mad his crowd groaned while applauding and laughing.

We actually started HBO to watch him there…but he’s changed so much we often don’t bother anymore. I rarely recognize his panel anymore too. New Rules is definitely the highlight of the show these days.

I think he's against all religions, hence making Religulous.

I like him because he's old-school liberal, and not afraid to call out some of the extreme-left insanity of new-school liberals. Probably he sees it more because he lives in CA.

But I don't subscribe to HBO, and only watch his "New Rules" or monolog clips on YouTube (when they're not already 'sifted, of course)

Right? A bit too close to accomplice for my taste.

I think the same way about slim Jims. Only tow truck drivers and cops have a legitimate use for that tool, and I’m pretty certain people have been charged for having them (possibly in conjunction with getting caught in the act of breaking into cars though).

I’m pretty sure a tool specifically designed for breaking locks open and useless for anything else would satisfy the “intent” portion. A good prosecutor could successfully argue that point. A screwdriver might be carried for any number of uses, this is only for opening locked stores (the only places with those kinds of locks that I can think of). It’s certainly enough for arrest if not conviction.

eric3579 said:

He's not selling "burglary tools" anymore than Home Depot is, but i know what you're saying. It sure doesn't feel right for him to sell what he does.

By California law it's no more a burglary tool then a screwdriver is. Intent to break in must be proven for the tool to be deemed illegal to be in possession of. California Penal Code 466

'Paradise Lost': How The Apple Became The Forbidden Fruit

This month marks 350 years since John Milton sold his publisher the copyright of Paradise Lost for the sum of five pounds.

His great work dramatizes the oldest story in the Bible, whose principal characters we know only too well: God, Adam, Eve, Satan in the form of a talking snake — and an apple.

Except, of course, that Genesis never names the apple but simply refers to "the fruit." To quote from the King James Bible:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Fruit" is also the word Milton employs in the poem's sonorous opening lines:

Of Mans First Disobedience, and the Fruit

Of that Forbidden Tree, whose mortal taste

Brought Death into the World, and all our woe

Im unsure how I feel about this so far. I get that "celebrating the attack" = bad. But it was meant as a memorial, I've never been to a pleasant memorial, and some of them do show people being attacked.

I'm not sure exactly what is in bad taste about this. I see many war memorials where soldiers have either been attacked or in the middle of being attacked. I don't see the distinction between the buildings and the soldiers.

The "someone" who thought this was a good idea is the Valparaiso GOP.
Asked for comment on the backlash, the chairman said "I think we hit it spot on", "they all liked it".
Talk about tone deaf. You hit the towers spot on, eh? That's definitely what your float is about.

This seems a lot more like celebrating the attack than remembering the victims.

Miami Beach condo collapse

newtboy says...

Yeah...it was a bad joke based on similar statements said in all seriousness by right wing representatives bragging about how easy they made development, and how much they were pro business. Now that deaths are reported, I retracted it. I thought the building was empty when I wrote it.
That said, if it is a 'failure to meet code' issue, then at least the 'code enforcement' part would be on point, even if in extremely bad taste.

12 cm is huge if only some parts sank and others didn't. That's why I always found downtown Houston scary, all those high rises built before 90 are sinking at different rates. They have tunnels connecting some that were flat when built and now are all ramps, some too steep to use! Yikes!

Mordhaus said:

They do have codes, Florida actually has some of the strictest building codes in the country. The building was actually being worked on and updated to meet additional local hurricane codes at the time of the collapse.

Every state has to meet the codes established by the ICC or one of the organizations that existed separately before they merged. The only city to ignore these codes and go completely by their own code is Chicago.

At the municipal level, the city can add more building codes to meet specific local hazards or weather. Miami/Dade has very strict hurricane codes that need to be met.

I suspect that we will find that the fault in this lies with the building owner failing to meet code or maintenance updates in a timely manner, as well as the fact that the building experienced subsidence in the amount of 12 cm between 1993 and 1999. This is not that unusual in structures built on barrier islands and it ceased sinking in 1999.

Exposing the Potato Chip Industry

BSR says...

As it turns out, the “air” in snack bags isn’t just air at all. It’s taste-preserving nitrogen that fights off staleness and protects bags from pre-snack time squashing. Who knew?!

The process of filling bags with nitrogen even has a name — it's called “slack fill.” While this benign practice “fills” the bag, it also leaves stomachs empty and hungry shoppers disappointed.
