Doom is REAL! - The Story You Never Knew

artician says...

As someone who knows Doom, the creators, game development, and creative media in general, this guy is stuffing words in mouths.
His Psychoanalysis might be accurate for the *creators*, by nature of their construction of narrative within the boundaries of our societies understanding, but I'm certain none of them would say "yeah! yeah that was totally our motivation/deeper meaning/intended symbolism."

Also, pretty certain Baphomet is not French, but I'd be interested in someone proving me wrong!

From an article by Chris Hedges:

Robert Paxton wrote in “The Anatomy of Fascism”:

The language and symbols of an authentic American fascism would, of course, have little to do with the original European models. They would have to be as familiar and reassuring to loyal Americans as the language and symbols of the original fascisms were familiar and reassuring to many Italians and Germans, as [George] Orwell suggested. Hitler and Mussolini, after all, had not tried to seem exotic to their fellow citizens. No swastikas in an American fascism, but Stars and Stripes (or Stars and Bars) and Christian crosses. No fascist salute, but mass recitations of the pledge of allegiance. These symbols contain no whiff of fascism in themselves, of course, but an American fascism would transform them into obligatory litmus tests for detecting the internal enemy.

8 bit philosophy-the deception of inception

I thought it was a fun movie that didnt require analyzing. No fully logical conclusions and if there was I rather enjoy the mystery more than the leaps and bounds required to solve this puzzle.

It was a movie that was, in the end, either dream or reality. The movie could be symbolically regarded as a box and thus we can say that as long as the movie is always just a movie (remaining in the box), the ending will be both real and a dream (alive and dead). If the movie could be made manifest as reality to experience and fully acknowledge the truth, we could make a conclusion. But as long as it is still just a movie, the truth can never be determined and thus both possibilities are true. Or Shrodinger's Film.

It's a worthless pile of rocks.

As much as it has meaning culturally - it is as a symbol of a tyrant's vanity, purchased with the starvation and travail of his people.

The crime here is that local people are forcibly prevented from redistributing good stone into useful projects by the pimps who run the national prostitution racket of the tourism industry.

Here another fun fact for the geniuses at this news desk. The Arabs got chess from the Persians who got it from India.

Why the flying FUCK would they have christian symbols on them!?

6 phrases with racist origins you may have been unaware

Lawdeedaw says...

You have to tag people when you call them out. Add the @ symbol so they know. Ie., @newtboy. There.

I must remember-- never read the comments!

newtboy, she very clearly gives the current meanings of all of these terms, so she clearly understands how words have different meanings over time. How could you have missed that?

And your citationless guesses about historical Romani behavior is just straight up racism. At least gorillaman doesn't rationalize his hate.

Just about any well made sword could do what that sword did, in fact probably do it better because samurai swords are so thick on the end they aren't that great for cutting, let alone piercing, no matter how sharp they are.

It's just that samurai swords (called that because they were a symbol of the class, but rarely ever used in actual battle) has this mythical air about it. But they aren't actually that great a sword.

Teenager wins $400,000 for video explaining Relativity

I've seen a video from sixty symbols with a similar explanation (kind of). Does this have any relevance?

This is an excellent explanation for someone of his age and his skill with video editing obviously helps a lot. It held my interest, the world needs more entertaining and educating videos like these.

My only criticism - and some youtubers have already pointed this out - is that the explanation of time dilation "..the same bodily change that happens on earth takes much longer to occur when you are moving so fast.." is wrong.

Signals sent within the body can be analogous to a clock - any fixed duration measured between two ~lightspeed reference frames will be different, including seconds measured by an atomic clock - but time dilation specifically has nothing to do with the mechanics behind how you measure the time or the time it takes a signal to travel. It's a property of the nature of spacetime. Time itself actually slows down. There's no 'trick' to understanding how or why, it's just a property that it has. We can forgive him because he'd already demonstrated that physics is the same in any inertial reference frame and there is no "preferential" reference frame; therefore the motion of the reference frame can't be responsible for the observed difference, so he obviously already really knew all this.

There's no shame in getting that wrong, because he'll be taught more and better about it as he progresses through school. Generally the arbitrary subjects are the hardest to live with because you just have to accept them as they are rather than 'understand'. Quantum mechanics is the same - you just have to accept the rules and apply the maths. Everyone struggles with it, even Feynman said "If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics."

I recommend just listening to the audio, it had some interesting points. But like many informational videos this one is edited with that standard infantile overuse of graphics, edits and effects.

Also am I the only one on the planet who doesn't understand usage of aɪər, ʉ, ð and sometimes ʊ? Wikipedia uses those IPA symbols like they are supposed to be helpful but they're Greek to me.

Greek/Euro Crisis Explained

Jinx says...

I think its the worst kind of irony that this shared currency, this symbol of a unified Europe, has really only served to bring cultural and economic disparity into the light. Already I hear people saying, "the Greeks had it coming". "They're lazy.". "They don't work." etc etc as if a whole country could be so completely full of moochers and layabouts that it is on the verge of collapse. So we'll go back to eating each other like cannibals. Wonderful.

Confederate Flag Parade in Georgia. Wait for it....

Sagemind says...

Lets be honest.
Most of didn't know anything about the flag when we were kids.
We all knew it as the flag that was on the roof of the Duke boy's car.
We thought it was cool, becuase it symbolized the General Lee "CAR" Don't forget the horn blast.( https://youtu.be/zAKksqKR3pI )

As we got older, we started to learn more about the flag, and what it represented.
But it's hard to let go of the happy childhood memories of watching the Dukes of Hazard every week and loving the car and the flag. And that is part of what stands in the way of us seeing what the flag symbolizes.
For most of us, we've imprinted a new meaning on the flag, so we don't always see it at a hate flag.

For those who view the swastika, we don't always see the symbol of peace it was for decades before the Nazi's appropriated it. We now only see it for the hate that redefined it.

Just some interesting thoughts....

Edit: I'm not defending the flag and it's use.
I don't celebrate tradition for tradition's sake - I think that's a poor excuse for flying the flag. It does represent bigotry in the Southern States, anyone who says otherwise is a liar.
I'm up in Canada, very detached from the bigotry down there, to me, it's the flag that was on the Duke's car.

Confederate Flag Parade in Georgia. Wait for it....

newtboy says...

You can't really be that dense, can you?
Flying the battle flag represents love and support of the 'confederacy' and what it stood for, which was clearly based on racist dehumanization of millions of people (just read what the confederacy's founders said at the time, it's clear). You can ignore that it's a symbol of racial hatred, you can listen to those that claim it's about 'heritage', but you must consciously ignore that the heritage it represents is one of complete subjugation of a people based on the amount of melanin in their skin, and a clearly stated superiority of those with less melanin. That IS the history of the flag, it is not, and never was about any other part of Southern culture.
Your mistaken feelings about this flag indicate that you think Germany should still fly the swastika, just below the current German flag? It's pretty much the same thing, and the same level of insult to the victims of the confederacy as the swastika would be to Jews/Polish/French/Belgians/etc.

Well, the guy was lucky to have the scene captured on video. But I don't see his problem with the supposed confederate flag.

Playing a bit of the devil's advocate here... but I'm sure most people here understands it anyway.

Why do they hate the confederate (battle) flag so much? It makes no sense. Do they just hate because they want to hate? I hear these excuses saying that it's a symbol of hate or racism. Yet I don't. I don't see it as a symbol for those two. I see it for what it is, the flag that people associated with as the confederate. I see historical value in it.

The people who are angry over a mere flag needs to wake the F up. The people who are hating it needs a reality check. That flag and its symbol has been a part of history for many years. It has represented a part of American history that should not be forgotten. These flags should not be taken down just because people are angry or hating over it. As long as the confederate flag is flown below the American flag, I am fine with letting it be displayed.
