Transforming stadium from concert to football field in 67H

ant says...

I remember when Staples Center had to switch between its basketball court, concert, and NHL ice ring within days during the playoffs a few years ago!

Mother and Son Witness Tornado Touching Down

bremnet says...

I've been in every type of winter storm you can name (from Canada eh!), sandstorms in Saudi, monsoons in Thailand, typhoons in the Philippines, several wet seasons in northern Australia, and a fair few hurricanes here in Texas. But tornadoes - the tricky unpredictable bastards that you can't predict, plan for or gear up for, Mother Nature's switch blade, are the only things out there that freak me out.

"Holy shit, this is crazy" is the right response.

They need to switch the slogan to "Make America Straight Again." It would have a secondary, racist meaning too! (Sound it out)

Upvote for the office space homage.

Texans Have The Biggest Haboobs

LiquidDrift says...

I used to see basically that every day driving home in Pheonix in August in the 90's. Don't know if it's still like that, but it was pretty amazing back then. It's crazy driving into it, the sun dims and turns red, you have to switch A/C to internal air because otherwise sand comes in. If you're outside sand scrapes your face and gets in your eyes.

Im guessing it's done to make it more difficult for it to be identified as copyrighted material. Changing length and images may confuse any program tasked with identifying it.

Why is 1/2 the video dancing dumbness? It could have been the interview he gave right afterwards where he claimed he shut his eyes after the last hurdle, and saw his mom waiting for him when he opened them and jumped to her....a hilarious explanation imo.

Green New Deal: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

ChaosEngine says...

The older I get, the more fatalist I become about climate change.

Honestly, we've missed the boat on this. We're fucked and there's nothing we can do about it.

And anyone who says that you can make a difference is talking out their arse. The actual useful things you can do are:

1: have less (preferably no) children. This dwarfs any other action you can take by a factor of 5.
2: Switch to a plant-based diet
3: Stop flying

Ok, 1 is not going to happen. People are still having kids and there hasn't even been any serious public debate about this (despite it being the single most impactful thing any individual can do).

2 and 3 will help, but nowhere near enough.

The ONLY thing that could have saved us is what Extinction Rebellion are proposing: attack climate change on a total war footing. Convert the entire economy over to fixing this.

And it needed to happen a decade ago.

But our leaders ignored this, and now it's too late.

I feel bad for anyone who has kids, but frankly, I'm just hoping the worst of it doesn't kick in until I've kicked the bucket.

What Happens When You Try to File a Complaint Against a Cop

newtboy says...

No, but it's when it strengthened. As a Mohawk sporting punk, I was often singled out as a younger teen for no good reason, but never abused and threatened with death like that until then. Since then, I've never seen anything to dissuade me from thinking they're all team players, and it's us vs them....like all gangs.
Edit: I've heard many times, including directly from cops and lawyers, that they may legally lie to you and are trained to do so. That above all makes me distrust cops, I don't trust professional liars, and neither should anyone else....ever.

There was nothing to toss, like some of these, he refused to give me a form or take any report, verbally abused me, then threatened to find something to arrest me for if I didn't just go away and drop it.
Yeah, they would be nice today, but without the off switches.

BSR said:

I understand. So is this when your distrust of all cops began? Was your refused complaint tossed in the trash or is there any record at all of that day? Body cams would have been nice back then.

Sheriff Caught On Bodycam Telling Deputies To Lie

newtboy says...

Granted, intent is debatable, but it sure seemed like he was going along to me...until the other officer hinted his camera had recorded the instruction to lie.
Also he knew the crashed cop car's dash cam was on. I'm pretty sure that's why they weren't going to call it an accident, just an incident, that wouldn't require the dash cam video be viewed.

Not one contradicted the order to falsify the report on scene, and more than one said "yep" or "yes sir" when told the lie, then checked to be sure it wasn't on their camera. After that officer checked his camera and said "mine's off" it sounded like the other officer was telling him his was still recording, looking at it, covering it with his hand and saying..."when I started I hit mine for the majority of it, I hit it" instead of "mine's off too, we're good".

It sounded here like only one of the deputies filled out their report accurately....after going along with the lie on scene.

No question, not one reported the instruction to falsify charges, and none of them were charged or even officially reprimanded. The Sheriff just retired, probably with full benefits and pension.

I think the next batch of cop body cams should have fake off switches that only turn the red led off, not the recording. We could clean house with a quickness.

Watched 3:59 and interpreted that differently. Debatable whether the officer intended to lie or knew the camera was on. I'm happy that officer refused to compromise the truth.

I'm with you there on the worthless off switches, let's hope information changes our world for the good.

Sheriff Caught On Bodycam Telling Deputies To Lie

newtboy says...

It bears noting that EVERY cop went along with this lie, not one contradicted it, a lie which was an attempt to add a charge of attempted murder on a police officer, until they realized on scene that the instruction to lie had been recorded. This body cam footage, a body camera the sheriff tried to ensure wasn't recording, saved this man from life in prison based on police lies.

Body cameras with on off switches are worthless for the public, whenever there's something they want to hide cops just claim it was off...trust them.

No charges against the cops....the DA said it was clear he was instructing the deputies to file false charges, but since they realized it was being recorded this time and therefore didn't follow through railroading this one defendant, no crime was committed. WTF is that? To me, this is reasonable doubt for any past defendant in the county.

The EAT-Lancet Launch Lecture

transmorpher says...

I spend a lot of time blabbing about it, if that's what you mean :-)

As for maintaining a healthful diet, once you know what to put in the shopping cart it takes no more devotion than eating any other diet

It's essentially this https://www.drcarney.com/images/easyblog_shared/b2ap3_large_PCRM-Power-Plate-Small.PNG

which is very similar to the government's recommendations - https://i.dietdoctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/myplate-467x425.jpg, minus the dairy. (Canada has recently dropped dairy from their government recommendations, so it's becoming a mainstream thing to accept that dairy is not required in the diet - and even the dairy industry themselves are starting to give up, no longer is their own biased research saying dairy is healthy, they've begun to settle with dairy is not harmful lol)

It is important to me, personally because my close relatives died from easily preventable diseases, and I myself suffered from nephrotic syndrome, which would have killed me. And I mean suffered, my wounds were opening up, I had ulcers appearing on my skin, my joints were swollen, and my muscle mass was wasting away because I was pee'ing out all my protein....... AND THEN I FIND OUT IT'S BASICALLY AN OPTIONAL ILLNESS - and my life is saved.

It absolutely pains me to see the western world with it's epidemic of obesity, diabetes, heart-disease, cancer, and less common diseases like multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis and so on, suffering unnecessarily like I did because they do not know the how easy it is to avoid, prevent, and often reverse these diseases. The vast majority of people could easily be healthy if they switched to a whole food plant-based diet. Not everyone, but most.

We're doing it to ourselves. We're giving ourselves these horrible diseases, and destroying the planet, and killing 80 billion land animals, and 2 trillion sea animals to make ourselves sick. To me it's pure insanity.

I get a sense you devote a lot of your time towards a healthful diet. Is that an interest or a need? Just curious. Not sure if its a passion or a need?

Guard The Cookies, Hal

Sentry Mode adds a unique layer of protection to Tesla vehicles by continuously monitoring the environment around a car when it’s left unattended. When enabled, Sentry Mode enters a “Standby” state, like many home alarm systems, which uses the car’s external cameras to detect potential threats. If a minimal threat is detected, such as someone leaning on a car, Sentry Mode switches to an “Alert” state and displays a message on the touchscreen warning that its cameras are recording. If a more severe threat is detected, such as someone breaking a window, Sentry Mode switches to an “Alarm” state, which activates the car alarm, increases the brightness of the center display, and plays music at maximum volume from the car’s audio system.

If a car switches to “Alarm” state, owners will also receive an alert from their Tesla mobile app notifying them that an incident has occurred. They’ll be able to download a video recording of an incident (which begins 10 minutes prior to the time a threat was detected) by inserting a formatted USB drive into their car before they enable Sentry Mode.
