YouTuber tracking down guy who stole his stuff

mxxcon says...

I suspect you'll kill me in a few months or years.
Should I pay you not to murder me and even hope we'll become friends?
Do you realize how delusional that sounds?!
I think you have Stockholm Syndrome.

What if you suspected he may kill you a few months or years down the road to get revenge?

Giving the money back showed an act of forgiveness which is beneficial to the forgiver and hopefully the forgiven. They now have a chance to become trusted friends because they now know a little more about each other.

In the end the forgiveness you give will all be meant for you.

Democrats For Violence

Yeah...Americans are fed up with the Democrats. Lol. So deluded.
If you lived in this country, you would know better. Almost 1/3 fewer Republicans than 3.5 years ago, support among independents has fallen from >46% to <36%, and among democrats it's within the margin of error to say he has 0% of democratic votes...in fact recent polling indicates Democrats have almost twice the percentage of the remaining Republican's votes than vise versa....about 8% R voting D vs 4% D voting R.
Trump is president. If he can't lead the entire country, not just the parts that are so sycophantically Stockholm syndromed that they wouldn't think of complaining about his deadly failures or contradicting his lies, he's unqualified.

BTW, DeJoy's ploy to make mail in voting fail are in trouble. A federal judge just barred the usps from any changes at all until after the election, after reversing all the slow down methods DeJoy implemented, and ordered any post office that needs their equipment returned to petition the court directly and the court will order it's reinstallation. No word what they'll do about the equipment that was intentionally destroyed, I can only hope it will be repurchased at DeJoy's expense, but I doubt it.

Looks like Trump hired another unqualified felon for his swamp....because he only knows crooks.

Never going to answer @wtfcaniuse? What has Trump accomplished that's"great" for America?
Just like you won't answer me when I ask you to bring up just one single case of the widespread, well known voter fraud schemes by Democrats, while I've been happy to point out a half dozen cases of Republican frauds totaling thousands of instances of vote fraud (some cases involved thousands of votes).

So sad, Bob. Sad that your ilk was thrown out of the mental institutions by Regan and you think that indicates you are well....it doesn't.

Jim Jefferies on Bill Cosby and Rape Jokes

Chairman_woo says...

I guess that's where we differ.

I find it funny precisely because such things really happen.

In a world where no such cruelty exists, I think this kind of material would then become empty and pointless. Comedy thrives on the defiance of our misery.

I dare say it would get less of a laugh in Sweden for this very reason.

I'm clearly in the minority here, but then I suspect few people have developed the same sense of cynical detachment I have (working with the severely mentally I'll and dieing will do that to you).

The humour is definitely there, I guess you just need a suitably fucked up perspective to appreciate it.

Out of curiosity, did you find Jim's old bit about the child getting shot when he was in Iraq funny? I might suggest that is an even more cruel and fucked up situation than the subject matter being discussed here.

Would that only become funny when children are no longer victims of wars? Or is it funny precisely because of the incomprehensible cruelty and misfortune underlying it?

Perhaps you have an easier time detaching yourself from something that isn't as likely to happen to you? This seems reasonable, but I don't see how it precludes such material from being funny, only more challenging for one to engage with. (and thus more powerful if one can do so)

To bring in a thread from another reply "And this is the brilliance of Louis -- that he lays bare the humanity of even pedophiles. The truth of pedophiles."

In what sense is Jim not doing the same thing here? He is flippantly exploring Cosby's desire to victimise women, we all have desires and sometimes act on those impulses when we shouldn't.
Rape is an extreme example, but the thought process is ultimately the same thing writ large. "I want a thing I can't have, but I'm doing it anyway".
I might argue he is laying bare the universal human condition in just the same way, albeit with something closer to home for most people than paedophilia.

Presumably it's the other thread that's proving challenging, i.e. the masochistic idea of enjoying ones abuse? And again, there is something deeply fucked up at the heat of the human condition here. Deriving pleasure from victim hood, or having messed up priorities about fame and opportunity.
Stockholm syndrome, abused partners loving their spouses, groupies allowing themselves to be abused just to be near their idols.

We are really that fucked up as a species sometimes, cognitive dissonance is almost a way of life for most of us in our own little ways. It's clearly a deeply risque subject, but there is something dark at the core of the human condition there none the less.

The actual victims don't need to have the kind of mixed up priorities Jim is alluding to, we only have to recognise that we posses the capacity for that dissonance ourselves. (The joke being at the expense of our own inherent hypocrisies, not specific victims)

The only big difference I can really see is that child rape is much rarer than the kind being discussed here. (and thus I suppose easier for most to detach themselves from)

Is it really any less horrific? Surely if anything it is far more terrible for most victims and usually seems to cause more damage to their lives.

How does Louis's material on Child rape remain funny in a world where children are raped, yet Jim's material about women being raped only become funny in a world where they do not get raped?

Paedophiles have a culture too. They form groups, exchange materials, praise each others work etc. etc. Not to mention grooming rings and other such reprehensible things.

I understand that a particular subject can strike too close to home, but for me that was my failing to rise above my own fears and traumas. When I finally got to a place where I could laugh at my own victim hood, it was one of the most liberating experiences of my life. (Don't get me wrong, that shit never completely goes away)

If you read my original comment, that says it all about how I feel about this particular "rape joke."

It'll get funny when we don't live in a world where women are fingered while passed out and teenage boys take video of the assault instead of stopping it. Like those Swedish bicyclists did.

Maybe these jokes are funnier in Sweden, where sexual assault isn't the norm.

I understand. I've been in cover bands. I was providing solid, factual information and the zeitgeist of the truly raw emotional music called metal. How does this equate to the lack of understanding of the music industry and the game they force musicians into? Then the game those very musicians somehow embrace via, what, musical Stockholm syndrome? lol!!!

Yeah, it sure is a good way to practice and get views. I agree, but how is it Top 15? All the other good musicians playing the good but unpopular songs and aren't cute enough for branding?

Yay Capitalism. It works. Who would have guessed. But I don't base my up votes on this sad fact of economics. It's bullshit. The music industry should be a sacred institution of musical progression and the pursuit of higher standards in music. But it's just a machine. The machine doesn't produce the truly great stuff. The great stuff is made by geniuses who write music because they breath it. It's made by disenfranchised youth. It is NOT this. This is cute but fucking SAD. But I guess no one gives a fuck because cool that's how it works. Ignore the superior talent, the artists with passion and personal drive due to adversity -- nooooooooo, focus on the popular talent.

FlowersInHisHair said:

Covering popular standards is a good way of practicing and also of getting some views. Many bands on YouTube do it and it seems a bit weird and pompous to pick on these talented performers for doing it too.

Driver Beaten And Tazed As St Louis Police Shut Off Dashcam

poolcleaner says...

Is there like a BDSM club for people experiencing extreme forms of PTSD and Stockholm syndrome to get tazed and beaten by off duty police officers? Nothing sexual, just good old street level police brutality. Maybe even accidentally shoot me.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised. From what I can see, law enforcement wants to transform all humans into supplicating and subservient profit cattle.

NSA (PRISM) Whistleblower Edward Snowden w/ Glenn Greenwald

artician says...

@dag, I see what you're saying, and I erred in using the term "evil", since it's a subjective and meaningless word.

However I don't believe the NSA really, really think they're protecting Americans. I think government always wants more control, sees a way or a moment to grab more, and does. If there's any concept of "protecting" any one citizen, I can't believe it's anything other than some perverted form of the concept (reverse stockholm syndrome?)
As for specific motivations for a government to seek more control over the people within it's borders, I believe objectives such as "stop all file-sharing", "verify census data more accurately", "find out who's not paying taxes", "discover what 'X' does on his day off, and persecute if we don't like it", and so on.

But yeah, not evil, but not working for the citizens either. It boggles my mind that military walking around on foreign soil, and violating personal rights and freedoms just like this NSA crap doesn't strike someone in office as the very reason people fly planes into buildings to begin with. If they really wanted to protect citizens of the country, they could stop pissing off the rest of the world. But that's my idealistic view of reality.

President Obama On Health Care Decision

vaire2ube says...

what a paradox to deal with people pretending we all wont need what we already know we will need ... insurance ... and pretending we need to pay CEO's and pay administrative overhead for obstructionist paperwork that is in between YOU and your DOCTOR, which is currently the system.

What happened in peoples lives that makes them have the stockholm syndrome for corporations?? do they not know about cannabis? shrug, its all getting a little much.

You're running out of time to find things to blame on Obama. And things to blame on him, in general...

Look how fast Bush Jr got out of the scene... while Cheney still runs his fuckin mouth. Guess how things went when they were in office? Gimme a break.

Bush was a puppet and his attitude was, as long as you can breathe things will work out. How else is the rich son of an ex-CIA chief supposed to feel? empathy for poor people? LOL

and here we have one of the most successful sitting presidents in history, who has ended discrimination in the military, the war in iraq, killed bin laden, and saved the economy (remember, either a bailout wasnt enough or it was... and it wasn't... meaning it HAD to happen, sorry you lose)

its my own mental illness that i want to gloat that we are all going to be better off... HAHA IN YOUR FACE WE ALL GET A FAIRER SYSTEM .. what's your mental illness in wanting everything you've been told to want, and your willingness to kill for it? Who is really sick here... *tokes*

LOL nice. That's the best you got?

You should focus more on making rational arguments instead of trying to attack those you disagree with.
