Tiny House Build For Homeless Woman
It's kind of sad that the homeless in America can't even live in a shanty town, or under a bridge (they put spikes under bridges). I'd much rather my taxes went to putting a roof over their heads then say the f-35 or the new stealth bomber. Maybe they could live on the Koch Brothers yacht... you know the one trimmed with dinosaur bones.
The One Ring Explained. Lord of the Rings Mythology Part 2
Isildur wears it while escaping his ambush by orcs, and does indeed turn invisible before it slips off his finger. Unfortunately the argument is available that he, like the hobbits, has every reason to value stealth in that moment. It's notable that both he and Frodo are made aware (in Frodo's case by Galadriel) that the ring's real strength is beyond them.
Bombadil wears it briefly as well, of course, and doesn't vanish. But he's a pain in the ass. Others might say it's because he's an ainu, duh. Or shut up, he's a deliberate anomaly. I'd claim, not with a tremendous amount of canonical justification it has to be said, that it's because he's all physical; a personification of middle-earth and even the ring can't shove him into the shadow world.
Regarding the ring and invisibility, do we ever see/read about anyone except Sauron or the hobbits (incl gollum) wearing it?
I could be wrong, but I don't remember any of the humans or elves wearing it. So it's possible it does grant other wearers different abilities.
How Wasteful Is U.S. Defense Spending?
The world isn't static.
For example, the J-20, between its stealth capabilities and its ability to jam radar, significantly lowers the range of our BVR radar guided missiles, because our radar guided missiles can't track them beyond a given range.
So you have to get closer - ideally without moving into range of the opponent's missiles.
A Super Hornet (which BTW is an ~entirely new plane compared to the original hornet. It's not an 'upgrade' to an existing airframe.) can't move in closer without exposing itself to fire.
Furthermore, the F35's ability to get closer than conventional fighters makes it 'take point' for information gathering and transmitting data over the network.
Yes, the F35 is has a wasteful inflated budget in large part architected to throw money at political friends - but the vehicle does exist to plug a real hole.
-scheherazade
I'm sorry, but the planes we currently have in production are more than capable handling any role we need for conflicts. They even have future capability with tweaking, such as what was done to the super hornet. The F-35 is simply a freaking pork product that allows the current generals to have a nice job later with defense companies, congressmen the chance to give money to their states, etc. Drones are the future.
Eurofighter Typhoon Close Encounter
Yeah, if it's just on what we need, Eurofighter has it. It has range, speed, and the most important factor, it does really well in the arctic. Whereas the F-35 doesn't have range, it has stealth over speed, but the thing loses that in adverse weather conditions. Sure they'll be "stealth fighters," but we'll be paying to reapply that stuff every winter/spring.
I agree. Too bad it's not an objective decision. Lots of political factors are at play.
On another note, Holy Crap that's close!
Colbert interviews Anita Sarkeesian
Actually she doesn't need to call herself a feminist, because she a widely recognized one. I was simply quoting what she said regarding the 'new wave' of feminists that have arisen in the past few years. This group is simply the next wave of PC thought police that have decided what is good and right for us to consume.
We both have pretty strong opinions on the issue and I doubt that either of us are going to persuade the other. I will say that in this day and age of simple graphic games being big hits and app store games also taking off, the market is there for people to try making games that cover more diverse scenarios. If there is a large another audience that hungers for the games, then they will be made and they will be successful. If they are successful long enough, AAA tier developers will take notice and start making them as well.
But, in the end, we are talking about games. They are fun, but there has not been one yet that made me want to start picking up hookers and beating them or pretending to be a stealth killer. Games do not program our thoughts and morals; our families, friends, and other life experiences do.
There are serious problems with Sommers video. If anyone hasn't seen it yet, watch it here.
Basically, her argument is "I looked at some literature (I'm not going to tell you what though) and I concluded there is no misogyny in gaming. You can trust me because I call myself a Feminist."
That's called "appeal to authority" and it's a logical fallacy.
The hugely ironic thing is that anti-Sarkeesian people are constantly going on about Sarkeesian is not qualified to critique games because she only played some of the games she talks about in the videos and watched YouTube game footage of the rest. Yet Sommers admits in the start of this video that she hasn't played video games since Pac Man in the 80s! By anti-Sarkeesian standards, she's even less qualified to talk about games than Sarkeesian is.
But that doesn't stop people who don't like Sarkeesian from trotting out this video as some supposedly magical proof that Sarkeesian's arguments have been debunked.
Black cat Ninja training
If it had been silent, the title would have been "Ninja cat"! At least it has the wall hang sorted, now just needs to work on stealth and style.
Definitely too noisy to be ninja, reminds me of a wall beneath a window in our basement and the years worth of claw marks gouged into it.

How to Attract Emus
I must have been doing that "move" a lot while playing Far Cry 3. Creeping through the forest, maximum stealth, using a bow, inching closer.... and I'm dead, not by gun or real enemy, but a fucking emu or komodo dragon.
Things in Video Games That'd be Creepy If You Did Them IRL
Stealth was dumb. During the escort mission though, I was hoping he'd grab the guys hand and drag him along, ala Ico.
Life Size Lego Car Powered by Air
This isn't an exercise in engineering so much as marketing.
The pneumatic motor is limited by the extreme lack of energy stored in compressed air. All inneficiencies in translating that stored energy into motion are failures in the system. The goal is to carefully remove all unnecessary sources of energy loss from the motor.
So there's an interesting engineering challenge in making this work 'at all' using Legos. There are design compromises that must be made, given the restrictions on form imposed by available parts; as well as the stress limitations of the material. It's like someone giving you a pile of reeds and asking you to build a Manhattan 5-Story Walkup. Can it be done? Is there enough stress resistance in the material for something of that scale? A fun challenge with no practical implications. Manhattan low-rises have been built before, you're not innovating architecture and you're definitely not contributing anything to the future of construction.
The question is, does it require a "technology genius" to accomplish? Someone tell me what a "technology genius" is first. Whatever it is...I suspect you don't need one on your team in order to search the internet for pneumatic piston motor schematics and copy/paste a parallel series of 256.
This exercise is inspiring and fun...until you add the marketing entrepreneur, casting hyperbole around and spending other people's money. It is unsettling to think that the new generation of capitalists are chasing the specter of Elon Musk; self promoting egotists who create nothing and take credit for everything. As a longtime member of the internet in good standing, I reject every stealth intrusion of marketing and entrepreneurship into my sandbox.
Hooray for Raul Oaida, engineering buff and hobbyist. Down with Steve Sammartino, marketer, entrepreneur, "brainchild" originator, keeper of secrete locations, crowd funder, project contact and fathead.
Lockheed F-35 vs F-18 Super Hornet
For those like me who was kinda confused about what this was about:
(from YouTube)
In this video, two boys simplify the debate to a true value statement. They both received $10.00 from their grandfather. One bought an F-35, the other got 3 F-18's with everything needed to maintain it, and keep them flying.
This contentious debate in geopolitical circles is focused around joint strike fighter choices. Does a country procure the F-35 or the F-18 Super Hornet? The F-35 is an impressive new fighter, designed to meet the needs of all branches of the military. The challenge is in order to meet everyone's needs, you have to make compromises. For example, once loaded with weapons, the F-35 begins to lose it's stealth abilities. Is it really invisible to radar and how much foil area did they have to give up to maneuverability?
In the end we realize... it's really not that complicated.
Guy builds his own submarine from a kayak
If he built some mechanism to hold the bubbles, and make the tail fin pedal-powered, this would be a great stealth vehicle. So small that sonar would think it's just a shark or dolphin.
Red Hot Nickel Ball in Peanut Butter
2013: The year of the RHNB dropped into shit on You Tube.
They need to drop one of 'em into one of those, "Will It Blend" Blendtec Stealth Commercial Blenders, now....come on Tom Dickson, what are you waiting for?
F-111 Performing A Dump And Burn After A Touch And Go
Does anyone know if this is the planes actual afterburner? I can't see how this is usefull otherwise?
And if it is the afterburner it doesn't seem logical. A heatseeking missle would LOVE it. Night stealth would be impossible.
edit: according to OP afterburner seems to be separate, that makes this feature even more puzzling to me? Why not dump from wings like other planes?
