how social justice warriors are problematic

StukaFox says...

Because calling people niggers, spics, retards, kikes, gimps, dagos, sand-niggers, dot-heads, crackers, spear-chuckers, nig-nogs or faggots really makes people understand each other better and leads to less violence and hate.

Adam Ruins Everything: Polygraph Tests

Lawdeedaw says...

It is clearly hyperbole when he says everyone believes in it then makes humor at the end countering that very same claim in the video. It is also clearly hyperbole when comedy is used in a strictly fact-based format that messes up the facts, etc. (Ie., comedy is FINE. But do it factually )

For example, the Daily Show recently was under attack for their biased coverage of the Democratic debate. How many people got the "real" journalism from them in the past? That integrity was/is so important it isn't even funny.

It is why they were so disgusted/pissed when basically Trevor Noah was sucking Hilary's dick off into his mouth. It also didn't help when he later forced a skit (intended to be funny...but was really lame...) that painted Sanders as a Spic hater (Which it really didn't do...)

Point is Adam uses a fact/truth/real history model for his audience. We expect that.

ChaosEngine said:

If this was a serious documentary or a report to congress, then yeah.

But it's just a comedy bit, so a bit of poetic licence with the hyperbole is acceptable IMO.

Besides, I really don't think it's that hyperbolic.

Jim Carrey's 'Cold Dead Hand' Pisses Off Fox News Gun Nuts

Fletch says...

Oh, ffs. Do you have a 2nd Amendment right to own a tank (with ordnance)? A TOW missile? A nuclear device? Claymores? Don't these arms fall under your "you may not own this item"? And are you really trying to equate words that people know with guns that people can buy? Do you think that Congress has the power to limit hate speech by striking the words "nigger", "fag", and "spic" from the minds of 300 million people? So, yeah... different. Just not in the way you are trying to spin it. One doesn't simply purchase words and sentences in a store. Your argument is compositional fallacy.

It's likely my definition and your definition of "reasonable" are different, and by no means do restrictions on the 2nd amendment have to be considered reasonable by every person. I'm one person who happens to think an assault weapons ban IS a reasonable restriction. The Bill of Rights is for all Americans, not just gun nuts.

You can spin it any way you like that gets you through your day, but the Constitution is subject to amending, and Amendments are subject to definition by Congress and the courts. An assault weapons ban may piss you off, but it's not outside the purview of Congress, and it isn't a denial of your 2nd Amendment rights.

bobr3940 said:

People love to use the analogy that weapons bans are the same as reasonable limitations on your 1st amendment rights. They use arguments like "You can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater", "You can't Slander", etc. but there is a big difference.

An assault weapons ban basically equates to "you may not own this item" the restrictions on 1st Amendment rights say "you man not use a word in this very limited list of situations".

If they were truly equal then the "reasonable" restriction on your 1st amendment right would be "You may not EVER use the word FIRE. Not in a crowded theater, not at home, not at work, not ever. Remove it from your vocabulary and we will not teach it to people who learn the language in the future."

No one would find that reasonable and everyone would fight to protect their right to use the word "fire" in safe, appropriate conversation.

Now lets take that and reverse it. Let's apply what everyone says are reasonable restrictions on our 1st ammendment rights and apply them to our 2nd ammendment. If you did that then you would havesomething along the lines of the following: "You may own the gun but you may not use it in these very limited list of situations".

Oh wait a minute! That's what we currently have. "You may own your gun but you may not use it to rob a store, murder someone, threaten someone, etc."

I am not trying to convince everyone that my side is right. I am just pointing out that you need to be careful when you start restricting ANY constitutionally guaranteed right. Take the restrictions that you think are fair and apply them equally to any other right that you have and see if they still sound "Reasonable".

TYT - Romney: Blacks & Hispanics Wanted Gifts from Obama

We're not a real Republic anymore, it's now a dictatorship where King Failure gets to decide if your business gets a waiver from his atrocious obamarxcare. If that's not a direct violation of the 14th Amendment (equal protection under the law) what is?
Also, in case you were unaware, the kenyan has authorized TSA agents to "assist police".
And Mitt is 100% right. Unfortunately for the White/Brown/Black entitlement class, the other 2/3rds of us aren't as happy about the Free Stuff Giveaway.
The stock market (down 1000 points) tells the real story apologists like Stink and libmedia won't.

Yeah I'll bet you and your buddies talk all the time about how if you were in charge you'd take care of all those niggers and spics. Your party is just fucking racist man, it's done, time to move on and reform.

Police Video: No Blood, Bruises On George Zimmerman

Lawdeedaw says...

It is definitely racism here underscored by thoughts that people have the right to "protect" themselves, even if that protection is provoking another and responding with force--even if that protection is an overreaction(I punch you, you shoot me.)

Now, the question is does it matter if he is bleeding or not by law? The defense doesn't have to prove any injuries on Zimmerman in the first place, but the police report would probably be tossed from court if they can't explain this video (Like for example, they may have cleaned up Zimmerman before booking him.)

All this seems to me is minority on minority violence. Funny thing is, since I live close by, I hear about this shit all the times. Hispanics hate blacks and vice versa, the acrimony is insane. One said to not trust the spics but to deal with the white man because he is more the honest businessman...?

>> ^NetRunner:

I think this is part of the issue. The left's position isn't "off with Zimmerman's head!" it's "we demand a real criminal investigation!"
The people we're most mad at are the Florida police for looking the other way. I don't know if Zimmerman is guilty of a crime or not, but I'm pretty fucking sure that him shooting and killing an unarmed kid warranted more action from the police than what happened.
I don't understand why that isn't everyone's reaction. Why is the right fighting that...at all? Why has this turned into another partisan political spat?
Do you guys think killing people isn't a big deal?
>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:
But you've all tried Zimmerman, convicted him, and are demanding his head on a platter based on jack-squat except a bunch of what can only be described as OPINION PIECES.

@chilaxe

So what you're saying is.. you're a cowardly white privileged bigot who's too afraid to leave the safety of his software & champagne fortress and confront the real problems of the world?

Cause we all know that Silicon Valley has nothing to do with "societal decay".

I mean, sure companies like Apple deny hard-working Americans high-paying jobs/careers in the Technology Sector by exploiting cheap labor in Socialist countries like China. But that's just want any good cold and calculating capitalist would do.

OH OH! I got the perfect bumper sticker for you "I Hate Socialism.. but I Loove my Ipad. Vote Yes on Apples for Americans"

Then you could pass around a petition demanding that Apple build a new factory in Oakland.

You know, to stop all the societal decay and give those dirty niggers and spics something to do with their lives.

Oh wait, then you couldn't complain about how shitty your life is under this oppressive Marxist regime.

I live in Silicon Valley, so I'm insulated from the societal decay.

I hardly ever interact with people who aren't techies, so the only way I know that California's been turned into the dumbest state in the country is from the news.

Oh. . . so the allegation is that the ATF was holding back in taking down petty gun runners so they could gather evidence to take down the entire organization. The same sort of tactic that the FBI often employs in fighting organized crime within the US.
I get sick of these deceptive video titles. Obviously there's a huge difference between committing a crime and failing to stop it. I was all set to rage against the ATF, now what?

Ignore Stephen Baldwin, Restore Joss Whedon

Personally, I hate the epic space opera and drama that is a part of most Scifi tv shows.
For Firefly, I think the opening song summarizes wonderfully: it's about the freedom of having your own ship, and being your own man. That is a dream I've had since I was a little kid, and the show speaks to me on such a deep emotional level that I don't think I'll love any other show as much as Firefly.

I love spic space opera but I agree with everything else you've said.

Exchange the word "ginger" for any other racial slur and what do you get? Not so much laughing and poking fun at the little nigger/chink/gook/greaseball/goomba/chug/kike/raghead/spic.
I'm sure there's one or more slurs that can apply to just about all of you, so take your pick. Maybe it wouldn't be so much fun to have everyone ostracize, ridicule and antagonize you at every turn.

I thought I made this clear. I'm not hobbling you for being a racist. I don't think you are a racist. I'm hobbling you for repeatedly baiting a fellow Sifter- being grossly insensitve to another human being.

You can point out all the bad words on the Sift that you want. It's not about that- it's about being a jerk to another human being. Quit trying to turn yourself into a martyr, suck it up and take a deep breath.

And yet you've banned no one for saying "nigger" or "kike" or "spic" even though most think it's appalling. I'd suspect Lady Death or Zonbie are possibly Latin-American, and the use of spic may be offensive. Maybe that's why they're no longer around?

Are you playing only one side?

Racism extends beyond a sensitive child like BT. He's possibly black but I don't know for sure - and neither do you. I do, however, think there are others on here that are black, Jewish and Latino that may (AND SHOULD) feel slighted by this arbitrary justice.

Especially since you've given preferential treatment to one race over another.

In reply to this comment by dag:
This has absoulutely nothing to do with your politics- but I find the idea that you would jump to this conclusion delicious. Are you claiming aggrieved minority status?

I think Bt is a black dude. I think you were deliberately baiting him with the spook thing. I think if I was black, I wouldn't like this. I think if you stretched your empathetic feelings you would understand this and maybe feel regret. In lieu of the golden rule working- I've taken some mild action.
