Kids Try Exotic Fruits

cloudballoon says...

I'll not tell your mama what you said she said

I'm good with swearing if effective (i.e. use sparringly). Moms that say it appropriately that instill absolute fear on children is pretty badass in my book. My mom don't swear, but she's as good as shooting lasers from her eyes whenever she's... displeased and turn dead silent. Same shit.

Sagemind is probably just too jaded for this sort of video. In the woolier parts of BC I hear that it's not unusual for a strapping young lumber jill to limb and top a spar tree wearing nothing but a pair of tin pants and caulk boots. Try to get excited by a barroom mechanical bull after seeing a thing like that.

Really, I tried to find the "nothing of interest to Canadians" channel, but it just isn't there.

Sorry for your loss. Give it another try and see if you can spot the nice looking babe in the video. I did and I got wood.

SpaceX Lands Stage 1 on Land!

rich_magnet says...

In case nobody caught it, this is not the first time a booster stage returns from space to land on its own power, not the first commercial launch booster landing nor even the first time it happened this year. Blue Origin's New Shepherd recently did just that. This lead to a bit of a war of words on twitter which quickly devolved to a "my rocket is bigger than yours" bragging competition. It's rather humorous therefore to hear this band of professional aerospace PR agents say that this is "history by being the first to fly back and land the first stage of our rocket to land" (@1:20).

Nonetheless an impressive mission and I congratulate their whole team for the accomplishment.

Conor McGregor vs The Mountain

dannym3141 says...

That's why they have weight classes in fighting sports. You can't rule anything out, but quite clearly early on the big guy had hold of him and let go, he was playing.

Knowing Connor, he'd have asked if the guy wanted to spar a little, just for fun; and consider what Connor - an tough, egotistical (yet lovable), pro fighter - finds fun He definitely wanted to carry that on longer than was comfortable for the big fella after he got grabbed early on... let him know who would win a real fight. Cheeky bugger, but definitely the archetypal lovable rogue.

Conor McGregor vs The Mountain

ChaosEngine says...

It's a friendly sparring match. Did you think he was going to crush his head or something?

I've no doubt that McGregor could beat people a lot bigger than him, but there's a limit.

McGregor is 1.75 m and 66 kg (that's 5' 9 and 145 lb for the people still living in the 1800s), and Björnsson is 2.06 m and 190 kg (6' 9, 420 lb). He's nearly 3 times his size!

Amazing Takedown

I think this sparring partner is a guinea pig for filming this move and he knows what is going to happen, perhaps having practiced it a bit. Still, it definitely looks like it stuns him.

The practicality gets me. Someone untrained or such perhaps.

I still ponder his sparring partner's lack of proper/effective defense. The dropping of his guard looks like he is catching the leg and holding on to it rather than blocking much less avoiding the attack.

Your point about weighing less seems salient.

Oh, the sparring guy I think was definitely just helping him demonstrate the move for the camera; he didn't just spring it on him.

I think it is definitely applicable in practice. I've seen similar flying grab-them-with-your-legs kind of moves in actual fights before, just never around the head. It'd definitely surprise your opponent at the very least.

chicchorea said:

Thanking you for your awesomeness.

On the move, the athleticism is impressive but I remain dubious as to applicability. I somewhat doubt the sparring partner's reaction.

Pretty stinking awesome. Would love to see it done in an actual bout.

Indeed, his sparring partner didn't seem to be bouncing back to his feet did he?

Pretty sure I've pulled this off quite a number of times in Virtua Fighter.

EDIT - It must be rough on your sparring partner, grabbing them with your legs and throwing them by the neck.

I have seen many videos with this move over the past 5 years. Not sure how practical it is, but I have heard people comment that it works well when the attacker weighs less than the target since it leverages well.

i would not say i am anti-establishment but rather suspicious of power and authority, and rightly so in my opinion, but thats all that is..my opinion.

i tend to post chomsky because he is the most quoted and since he is so critical of power his research tends to be thoroughly vetted.i also post:chris hedges, henry giroux, sheldon wolin, carl popper all whom are extremely critical of the current power structures.

my faith dictates my politics and to me the argument is always, and i mean always:power vs powerlessness

i am critical of power.
i challenge authority and question its validity, forcing said authority to prove its relevance in todays society.

just because i criticize and challenge current power structure in no way dismisses the very good and beneficial accomplishments of the society i reside in.there are many positives to be acknowledged and applauded, but we must be vigilant and do our due diligence in order to challenge extremely powerful forces that seek to undermine the myriad of hard-won rights and privileges in order to benefit themselves at the detriment of everybody else.

so while my politics may be perceived as radical by some,it is not radical at all to me.which should be self-evident.

and disagreement is not only fine by me but welcomed, and i am glad you will engage with me (some people fear conflict).engagement forces me to refine and examine my own ideologies and if they are found lacking, then they must be discarded.without challenge and criticism we will all sit in our own hubris,an echo chamber of our own insular ideologies, smelling our own farts.

now where is the fun in that?

anyways..always a pleasure sparring with ya.
stay awesome brother and merry christmas happy new year!
