Skating the unskateable

newtboy says...

Rail riders, not cobblestone. This is groovy (literally) but they aren't really riding on the cobblestone.
Using a dirt boards (with inflatable wheels), people have been really riding cobblestone on actual skateboards for years now. Someone should tell them.

Free Skates Are Strangely Awesome

I tried some of these once a few years back. I'm competent if far from talented at riding a skateboard, I'm pretty good at inline skating, but these things I decided after about ten minutes were too dangerous for an 'old' guy like me. There's no way to learn to ride them well without falling down a lot in the process. Not a problem when I was a kid, now: not so much.

In the end, I didn't know what to make of them. They offer no advantage over skateboards or skates and have quite a lot of disadvantages. I guess they're a challenge for its own sake, which is fine since ultimately that's the point since they're not a mode of transportation as skateboards or skates arguably can be.

It's kinda like a combination Heely and skateboard but with inline wheels like rollerblades. Don't get me wrong, I love old school type tricks, but I'd love to see the types of transition tricks and grinds people will start coming up with. Take it from adorable new trend to shredding at the X Games. Awesome new pastime.

Cop Harassing The Wrong BMX Bikers Gets Shut Down

Unfortunately Newt, the ending proves the officer may be misinformed, but calling him a controlling dickhead is a bit much. There is a concept of "keeping the peace" that could be applied here. He mentions they were "doing tricks" which usually means skateboard-esque jumps and slides which could come into endangering the public.

Also, after the officer walks away, the kid tries to prod him into a real confrontation. The only reason I can see for that is YouTube views or he's just a mouthy little shit.

I find it insane that you are totally willing to ignore the adult officer STARTING the interaction by being a liar and a controlling dickhead by abusing his power by issuing illegal commands, but are going to continue to lambast the 15 year old kid who just won an argument with a douchebag liar because of his knowledge for being a bit excited about it.

After Hours: The Terrifying Truth about Doc Brown (BTTF)

I spent October 21st skateboarding with the wife. Ahhh, 1950s Tony Hawk, thank you for inspiring the future -- even if you didn't make hoverboards a reality.

But really, the fun of skateboarding is in the resistance that the wheels have on the ground. Being able to propel oneself forward and back; tick tacking, drifting, ollieooping (hah), and other fun maneuvers not possible with a hoverboard. I truly prefer wheels, berrings, and the donuts & trucks which support them.
